"I am so happy right now! We need to take you dress shopping! Oh, there's so much to do and-"

"Lis, you're rambling!" I laughed.

Me, Cass, Lisa and Evie had all gone out for brunch the day after my engagement. Since running away, I'd seen more of Evie the past few months than I had in 5 years.

"Let me see the ring, then." Cass held out her hand and I extended mine.

The ring was Disney's Rapunzel inspired. It incorporated amethyst and crystal, and was pure gold. On the inside, the words 'you're my new dream...' were engraved.

"I don't know how he knew about this ring. I've wanted it since I was 15." I smiled and pulled back my hand.

"It's beautiful, so 'you'. Did you ever show him it or anything?" Cass asked.

"Nope, never. We'd never really talked about marriage- Wait..." I remembered something.

"What?" Evie stopped eating and looked at me.

"When I first found the ring online, back in 10th grade, I told Sam about it. I showed him the photo. You don't think he could've remembered,m, do you?" I thought about the time I showed him that ring.

You see, me and Sam had dated back in 10th grade. It was one of those relationships where you're dumb and 'in love'. It didn't work and we remained friends. In fact, he's my best friend- like a big brother.

"Ask him." Lisa suggested.

"That I will."

"Sam!?" I unlocked my old apartment door and cautiously walked inside. Even though I'd moved out, I still paid part of the rent for Sam so he let me keep my key.

"Sam? He's probably out." I sighed.

I closed the door behind me and flicked on the light. I walked about the apartment. Kitchen, nothing. Lounge, nothing. Bathroom, nothing. But then I saw a light coming from Sam's room, but no noise.

"Sam, are you in there?" I gently nudged the door open, so see Sam laying unconscious by his bed.

I ran over, "Sam? SAM!"

I shook him, nothing.

"Shit, shit!" I started to cry, not knowing what to do. I wasn't strong enough to carry him downstairs, so instead I pulled him up onto the bed.

I called 911, because I couldn't risk it. The ambulance came within 10 minutes, and I ended up having to lie to the paramedics so they'd allow me to come with them.

"I'm sorry, ma'am, but may I ask your relation to Mr. Casadei? Family only in the ambulance."

"He- he's my big brother." I sobbed, "Please let me come."

"Okay, fine." The man looked annoyed but allowed me in.

The doors slammed shut and I clasped Sam's limp hand as we drove away.
