Sam's POV

2 months, a surgery and 5 physiotherapy appointments later- I was back on my feet. Hobbling, but back.

"So, Kaitlyn, what's happening with the wedding?" Me and my closest friend were sat on her couch hanging out for the day.

"Fuck knows." She laughed, eating more Doritos.

"No plans?"

"Nah. I kinda wanna get married on the beach. Always have. But I've said to Jack that I don't think we need to rush putting a label on it. I love him- that's what counts, right?" She smiled.

"I get you, yeah." I sighed.

"What's wrong?" She said sternly.

"Nothing."

"I've known you for like 10 fucking years- I can read you like a goddamn book! Now- what's. Wrong." She faked an angry face then burst into a fit of giggles.

"Me and Lily are drifting. Fighting a lot. It hurts." I clenched my jaw.

"Any reason why?"

"Well... Uh... I can't- you'll get mad."

"I won't, tell me."

"She thinks it's all your fault- that I'm injured. That I've been in hospital twice. Because you ran away. If you'd never gone we would've never crashed. A butterfly effect, I suppose..." Kaitlyn's face dropped.

"It is my fault..." She whispered, starting to cry.

"Is it fuck! This isn't, and never will be, anyone's fault. Especially not yours. Come here." I wrapped my arms tightly around her as she cried.

"I'm so sorry." She whispered into my shoulder.

I pushed her away so that she was at arm's length, "You were terrified, so you ran. And that's perfectly fine! I'd be scared too! Hell, I was!" She giggled, "But please, do not blame yourself!"
She sighed and smiled.

"I'll level with you..." I continued, "I've broken it off with Lily. I couldn't stand her saying all this shit about you. Not about my best friend. These lies- I just couldn't take it. I love you too much. So she moved out and we broke up." I smiled sadly.

"When?!"

"Last week..."

"You should've called me. I'm sorry. You'll find someone else, someone better. I promise. She doesn't deserve you."
