Different situations

Meanwhile, at Rehan's office,
He was busy typing something on his laptop, totally forgetting that it was past lunchtime and he had a meeting way more than important to attend. This project was really important for him…he could not afford to lose this deal…at any cost. In the quest of getting it, he didn't even remember that he was losing something more precious than just a collaboration.
Suddenly a knock grabbed his attention,"Come in,"passing the order he again shifted his whole concentration over the project he was making. He heard the door opening and closing sound as footsteps stopped in front of his desk,"Sir, this is the file you had asked for,"his PA, Liam forwarded a file towards him.
"Ahh, thank you…umm…"Rehan closed his eyes…trying to remember the name of the man who had been working with him for the past three and half a year. "Sir, it's Liam,"Liam reminded Rehan his name once again which was always a daily work of his.
"Oh sorry, I..I had forgotten,"Rehan said shaking his head…somewhat frustrated over his poor memory. Still thank GOD he didn't have to face such difficulties regarding his work. Otherwise he didn't even know how he would have managed everything.
"It's totally okay, sir. It's not a big deal,"Liam tried to boost up his boss a little. Sometimes he really felt bad for this man, who always acted so strong and tough from the outside. But from inside he always had to fight the raging battle with himself.
And no one had anything to do to make this situation any better except for helping him to adapt the situation a little bit normally. Liam first got to know about this when he got selected as Rehan's PA. At that time he was asked to sign a contract stating that he would always have to stay loyal to his employer and the company as well. It was also clearly mentioned in the contract that if in the near future Liam wanted to resign from his job, he still would be binded by the terms of that paper according to which he can not disclose the confidential information to anyone else…not even his family members. Though it seemed a bit weird to him, he signed it without much hesitation. After all, he was an honest man…so being loyal to his employer was what he wanted as well. It was after that, he got to know about this illness of Rehan. Azel Edward, the secret girlfriend of his boss explained the do's and don'ts he had to follow in order to cope with everything. And he could not help but admire the girl, who was so much younger than them yet she was so mature…so careful when it came to Rehan. Liam didn't know exactly what had happened to his boss..but he was happy to know that his boss had people like Azel, Tune and Hrew in his life…who loved him despite all his flaws. Rehan was truly a gem of a person who deserved every best thing in the world…and Azel was the greatest blessing in his life.
Rehan gave him a weak smile…he was really tired fighting with his inner demons every single day. "Sir, I have also checked on the site where you want to build the boutique for ma'am. Everything is very good there…if you would permit then the workers will start their work as soon as possible,"Liam informed his boss…making Rehan nod along with a genuine smile thinking about the surprise he was preparing for his Love. He could only hope that she would like it once it is completed.
"I will let you know when to start the work. But before that, fix my meeting with the best interior designer in the UK…the engineer must be present there as well."
"Yes, sir,"hearing the order of his boss, Liam bowed respectfully. "Then I shall take my leave now,"Rehan nodded his head, permitting Liam to resume his other works. Rehan was about to get back to his work once again when he felt Liam still standing there…fidgeting with his fingers.
"Liam, is there anything else?"Rehan raised his one eyebrow at the boy standing in front…by his gestures it was clear that Liam wanted to say something. "Sir, I…umm…I don't know if I should say this or not. But…I just…wanted to..make sure…I mean…"Liam didn't know how to put his words in such an order, that it would not seem too interfering.
"I didn't get you? What is the matter that is making you this worked up?"Rehan queried not understanding the sudden nervous behavior of his PA. "Sir, I just don't want to upset you by interfering in your personal matters…but I…I just wanted to make sure that everything went well. I mean it would make me satisfied knowing you are finally going to get your happiness,"Liam finally let the words out…which he actually felt. He meant each of the things he said just now. But Rehan's brows creased in confusion,"Okay? But I still didn't get you, Liam. Can you please be more accurate regarding whichever topic you are speaking about? And don't worry, I would not mind,"He assured the poor man, knowing full well that Liam was only worried for his*(Rehan's)* well being.
"Sir, how did your meeting go? I mean I thought you were going to be late…but you are already here? Did everything go well?"Liam asked, not able to suppress his curiosity. He really didn't expect to see his boss at work…at least not that early,  especially when he had a meeting with his future father-in-law.
"Which meeting? I was at the office the whole time…was I supposed to go to meet some client?"Rehan's eyes widened…as he thought of how unprofessional this kind of behavior of his was. But here Liam's expression converted from being nervous to totally horrified,"Sir, you didn't go?" It almost came out as a low yell.
Before Rehan could say anything further, Liam slapped his own forehead in frustration,"Shit! I should have stayed here with you. It's..it's all my fault. I should not have left you in the first place. What have I done? Now what will happen?"He kept on rambling, voicing out his own worry. He had just one job that was to stay beside Rehan, but he could not even do that.
"Liam.."Rehan called out to him…but he was not in a condition to hear anything. Liam was still busy blaming him for his mistake…for which his boss would have to pay a great price. "LIAM?"This time Rehan called him loudly…finally gaining his attention. Looking at Rehan, Liam knew that he*(Rehan)* still didn't remember about which meeting he had to attend?
"Sir, you..you had a lunch meeting at noon with…"Liam sucked in a deep breath preparing himself for the worst scenarios,"Mr. Edward." As those words left Liam's mouth, Rehan felt as if someone just splashed a bucket of icy cold water on him. He had a meeting with Mr. Edward..shit! Yes, he had to meet with Azel's dad! Shit…shit…shit! How the heck did he forget such an important matter? What is wrong with him?
His eyes landed on his wrist watch which currently showed 5:25 pm. "Wh…when was the meeting…exactly?"Rehan gulped the dried lump that formed in his throat before he asked Liam one of the most dreadful questions. "Tw…two pm,"Liam stuttered gazing at his boss who looked as if someone just seized his soul from his body.
Hearing his PA, Rehan sat on his chair with a thud…over! Everything was over! That was what his mind, heart and every cell of his body screamed at him. "How…could I? It's..it's been three hours already. I…was supposed to make things alright for us today…but what did I do? I..I ruined every single thing.
No..now what…what will happen? Wi…wild cat, she had trusted me so much..what will I answer her? I just had one thing to do…that was to meet with uncle. But…. WHAT THE HELL DID I DO?"He yelled precisely to no one…but him. All the things kept in his table were pushed on the floor, one by one everything broke down…the shattering sounds echoed in the vast office room. His neatly arranged office room from a minute ago was now akin to a total wreckage reminding Rehan that his life was also nothing more than a perished remnant.
Rehan sat on his chair with a thud while clutching his hair in anger, frustration and GOD knows what not. Tears gathered in his orbs as Azel's face flashed in front of his eyes. "Why didn't you remind me a little earlier about this? Why?"His voice was so weak…so broken. There was no hint of anger in his voice…how could he get angry at others? The incapability lied in him, he was the sole reason for his such state. How could he blame anyone else? No, he could not…and he didn't.
Liam looked at the helpless man in front of him with saddening eyes,"Sir, I..I'm sorry. I had gone to check on the site which you had asked me to do yesterday. But due to other work pressures I could not do it then so thought of visiting it once today. But never thought it would lead things to like this.
I…had called you as well, but your phone was off…and the landline, it didn't connect through. Maybe due to the network issues there. I had even called Sayra *(Liam's subordinate)* to check up on you once, and she informed me that you were not in your cabin. So, I thought you had gone to meet with Mr. Edward,"Liam lowered his gaze, feeling way too guilty. Right when Sayra came to check on Rehan in his cabin, he was not here…because he was at the conference room having a sudden meeting with Fayza and two other companies who scheduled it at the last minute because it was urgent.
"I'm sorry, sir. It was all my fault. I should have never gone there today in the first place. I should have been more careful. It was all because of me,"he could not help but blame himself time and again. Rehan shook his head,"It was not your fault…neither was Sayra's. It was just me…you see, I'm the unfortunate one. I'm the incapable one. And for my incapability I will have to pay a great price now,"Rehan chuckled humorlessly. He must be the most pathetic human being of all time..who could not even have an ounce of control over his own life.
"Sir, please don't say it like that,"Liam requested earnestly. "It's okay, Liam..it doesn't even matter now,"in his three and half a year of working with Rehan, Liam never saw him this broken beforehand, not even when his whole company was at the verge of bankruptcy…when his own trusted employees betrayed him in the worst way possible…when all his hard work was illegally poached away by his rival company.
Liam sighed not knowing exactly what to do,"Sir, you should call ma'am once. She was worried about you when she could not reach out to you. She wanted to know whether you were okay or not..and I had assured her that you had gone to meet…"he stopped midway as he realized it would only rub salt on Rehan's wounds. Rehan took his phone…as soon as he switched it on, missed calls and texts flooded his mobile. 79 missed calls and 36 texts from Azel, 35 missed calls and 17 texts from Tune and 27 missed calls from Andrew…the notifications showed.
Most of the texts of Azel and Tune were regarding where was he…how was he…everything was okay or not…he was okay or not. In a few texts, Azel tried to boost him up by saying all sorts of encouraging words. In a few she wrote how she was always there for him and with him…and how much she loved him. Some were just requests for him to call her back as soon as he could. And in a few she conveyed how angry she was at him for keeping his phone switched off for such a long time…and she also threatened him that she would not talk to him for a month for all the tortures he had done upon her. But in the next texts she apologized saying she would never get angry at him and again requested him to call her back.
Rehan rubbed his face with both of his hands…before inserting the phone in his pants pocket. Standing up he rushed towards the door when Liam's confused voice stopped him,"Sir, where are you going?"
"To meet with my father-in-law,"saying that he left his office, he was still not sure whether Andrew would be in the restaurant where they were supposed to meet or not…but somewhere his intuition was urging him to check that place once. And he was definitely going to follow that. He had messed it up…so he was going to mend it as well.
……….
In front of the restaurant,
Rehan's  La Voiture Noire stopped rashly…before he came out of it. From the distance itself his eyes fell on the man who was standing just in front of the restaurant entrance probably waiting for his car to come. Without a minute's delay, Rehan ran towards him.
"Un..uncle, I…I'm sorry…I'm really very sorry for being late. I…."Rehan stood beside Andrew, speaking nervously. He was a bit out of breath, due to running to cover the distance in between them. Andrew was startled at his sudden arrival…he never expected Rehan to come…not after so long. But soon he masked his emotions as anger started surging in him once again. Remembering all the lies…till now he was told.
"It's okay, son. After all, you must be very busy. Look what am I even saying? Of course, you would be busy…after all, you are one of the most top listed businessmen of the UK,"Andrew said…his tone harsh. Expressing the anger behind his talks. Rehan shook his head trying to say something but before that Andrew once again spoke,"Many renowned personalities have to line up to get your appointment and here what I did? I just invited you over for lunch…where are you…and where am I? You are the Rehan Tyler, the most successful entrepreneur of two leading companies…which have so many branches in different continents of the world. THE gold medalist businessman of Oman. And what am I? Just a mere immigration lawyer. What is my worth in front of you? Still you took your precious time to answer my phone earlier and accepted my invitation..that was more than enough for me. How could I expect YOU, such a big shot to dine with me, just an ordinary man? It was my fault not yours, dear. Still I'm happy to see you here…at least I'm lucky enough to get a glimpse of such a famous man like you. Not many people have this luck as I have, right? You took the trouble to come all the way here to meet with this petty man…it's such an honor for me. Doesn't matter that you are late…it's only four hours after all. What's the big deal? I'm anyway an idle man to waste…no, no…actually wait for you for the whole day, right? It's nothing, son…I can at least do this much for such a big persona like you, can't I?"Andrew outstraight taunted Rehan with each of the words he spoke.
Rehan sucked in a deep breath…the chest pain he was feeling earlier, it was worsening with the passing moments…specially hearing such relentless remarks from Andrew. "Uncle, it's…it's not like that. Pl..please I..can explain,"he pleaded,"Just..give me one more chance, uncle…please,"Rehan folded both his hands in front of Andrew requesting him sincerely from the bottom of his heart. If needed Rehan would not back off from begging for his love as well…but he could not just lose her…not at the cost of anything.
"Chances are not distributed, those are earned, Mr. Tyler. And you had your chance to earn 'That CHANCE'…but unfortunately you were too busy to regard that. So there is nothing that can be done now…because there is nothing called a second chance in the dictionary of Andrew Edward,"Each word that left Andrew's mouth was enough to choke Rehan mercilessly.
"Uncle, please…please don't say that. I…I will do anything…anything you would want me to. But please…"
"Anything?"Andrew quiered with a raised eyebrow…making Rehan nod his head immediately. He didn't want to make Andrew wait for another single second…who knew what if Andrew changed his decision?
"Then stay away from my daughter. Leave her…never show your face to her…ever again. Go away from my daughter's life…so far away that even if my daughter wanted to reach out to you…still she could never get ahold of you,"Andrew said without any mercy on the poor boy who felt someone just stabbed his heart with uncountable arrows.
The tears that he had kept under his control till now…spilled out of his eyes..without any restraint. Rehan could not help but look at Andrew in disbelief…he was just unable to understand how could someone be this heartless? Yeah, heartless..that was how Andrew was acting towards Rehan.
"It..it's impossible. I cannot do that. And I will never do that. I love her…more than that, she loves me. How can you place such a condition in front of me? Leave me, did you not think about your daughter? What will she feel? How will she handle it if I disappear from her life? She will break down, Mr. Edward…into so many pieces that no one would ever be able to put back together,"Rehan stated firmly…now he was losing his mind as well. How could he*(Andrew)* do this with him*(Rehan)*? Just because Andrew had the leash, he could not use it on Rehan like this. No!
Rehan knew very well that the mistake was made on his part? And he was ready to do anything to mend that one mistake…but he was not going to leave Azel…no, not her. He was not going to sacrifice her for the mistake he made. He was no fool to even think about such a thing…ever.
"She is my daughter…and I have that power to put back her broken pieces together. She is my blood..and she is strong enough. I know how to mend her and I will do that also. Yeah, she would be sad…she will cry her heart out sometimes for you as well. But how long would that last? One week, two weeks, one month, five months, twelve months or maybe twenty four months. But eventually her tears will dry up…eventually she will let you go. Eventually she will move on from you..from the past that both of you had together. She will start living her life once again..she will start afresh then. After all, 'Out of sight, out of mind'."
At this point Rehan could not help but chuckle…but it held no emotion…no fun. It was just as hollow as his heart was feeling right now. Tears still seeped through his eyes,"If you think of her like that..then I must say you don't know your daughter…not at all, Mr. Edward. You have no idea how much she loves me? The power that her love holds can even shake the mountains…cause the vanquished volcano to erupt its lava once again. And you are saying she will forget me in the span of just two years? Huh…you are just so mistaken, Daddy…even if you keep me two decades away from her still her love would never change for me. If that 'Out of sight, out of mind' proverb would have had to happen to us, then today I would not be standing here in front of you saying all these. Rather we would have split apart till now…I was not in her sight for two years, forty nine days, seventy seven hours, two hundred and fifty five minutes. But not even for a second I was out of her mind or heart. You see, we just don't fit in that so-called criteria of that so-called saying.  That's how your daughter loves me,"Rehan said proudly…he indeed was prideful to have Azel as his life partner.
But Andrew's fists clenched…his knuckles turned white. If not for the relationship they shared, Andrew would have surely landed a punch on that insolent boy's face for talking with him like this.
"You know, I'm leaving you just for the sake of Tune. But don't you dare take my kindness for granted, Rehan. I'm warning you for the last time…stay away from my Princess. Otherwise you will see the worst of me,"Andrew threatened him. Which didn't seem to have much of an affect on Rehan,"Thank you for being this thoughtful regarding the feelings of my best friend. And I would have been glad if you would have shown me this much kindness regarding my relationship with your daughter as well. I know the fault was mine in the first place and I'm ready to do anything to rectify it…except for the only thing you want me to do. I'm sorry but I can not stay away from Azel…and no one could make me do this. Not even you, Daddy…please don't think that I'm taking you for granted because I would never dare to do that with my only father-in-law,"Rehan winked at Andrew…making him want to choke this punk to death right here, right now.
"I'm no Daddy to you. Stop calling me that. I would never let my daughter get married to you,"he hissed at Rehan.
Rehan smirked at Andrew,"Of course, you are my Daddy because after marriage your only daughter is going to be my only wife, dear father-in-law. So, I'm practicing to call you that beforehand, you know? And trust me, when I say, you yourself will give your daughter's hand to me. I will get married with Azel in front of your eyes that too with your consent…the whole world will see that magnificent wedding. I'll lawfully make her mine..she will be Mrs. Azel Rehan Edward. Do whatever you want to do…but you will never be able to separate her from me…ever,"Rehan's tone was challenging…throwing an open challenge at Andrew who smirked back with that same intensity.
"We will see that, Tyler…we will see that. Very soon you are going to repent over these very words of yours. Because Andrew Edward never learnt to lose…not any case neither any challenge,"Andrew spoke, before pushing Rehan a little as he walked over to his car.
"Okay, dear father-in-law…challenge accepted. If you are stubborn then don't forget that I'm also your son-in-law. And Rehan Tyler never learnt to lose either…not any business deal…nor any challenge. And here the matter is about my love…then I surely will live up to my words, Daddy. I will marry her in front of you and you will give us your blessings as well…that too wholeheartedly,"Rehan yelled the words as the window's of Andrew's car rolled up before he started driving it. Soon it vanished from Rehan's sight…along with the smirk that Rehan had on his lips.
A shaky breath left his lips…he closed his eyes in utter frustration. Shit! He was here to mend the situation…but instead he complicated it more. Rehan immediately turned around before punching the nearby wall,"Ahhh!"He screamed in frustration…gaining attention of the passerby and people present there. His knuckles got bruised badly, blood started oozing out from the numerous cuts he just got from the impact of the punch. Still it was not hurting him..he was unable to feel the external pain.
Maybe because the internal pain was too much for him to handle. The only pain that was killing him from inside was his heart. His heart was being pierced into so many unseen pieces. "Shh! This too shall pass,"he mumbled rubbing the left side of his chest…as if the heart would understand these comforting words.
People looked at him with weird gazes…they started murmuring and whispering about him. But he didn't care about anything or anyone. And how would he? After everything that happened, he was not in a condition to do so. At that moment he didn't even know what he was feeling inside…all he could feel was numbness. His whole body was feeling drained. Tears once again made their ways through his eyes…but he didn't let them fall. Wiping those stray tears harshly, he started dragging his lifeless body to his car.
From inside the restaurant, Fayza's eyes turned glossy looking at Rehan's condition. Her hands tightened around the wine glass she was holding. Her hold over that glass was too tight to the point that it broke down with a loud shattering sound. The wine in the glass splashed on her white dress..staining it in red color which was mixed with the color of his blood as well.
A waitress ran towards her,"Ma'am, are you okay?"She was horrified looking at the menacing look Fayza had on her face right now. "Leave me alone,"Fayza's voice boomed through the whole restaurant…thank GOD it was late afternoon and there were not many people around. The waitress scurried away from there in fear.
While Fayza kept on looking at the broken man…she knew somehow she was responsible for Rehan's current condition . But better late than never!
She knew it would hurt him when he would lose Azel from his life…but at least Rehan would not have to get betrayed his whole life. She also knew that what she did was extremely wrong! She used his illness..his weakness against him…but it was for his own good. And she could only hope that in the future, Rehan would forgive her for this,"I'm sorry, Rehan..I'm really sorry. But this was the only way to separate you from that girl. I hope you will understand me,"Fayza mumbled, looking at the retreating figure of Rehan.
At that moment her phone rang grabbing her attention…her grim expression turned into irritation looking at the caller ID,"Abid, it better should be important…otherwise I'm going to…"she started threatening Abid as soon as she picked up the call.
"Ma'am, we have made a mistake…a huge mistake,"Abid's distressed voice cut her off in the middle…alarming her about something…not so good news.
—------
Azel ran inside Rehan's cabin, only to find the whole room was turned upside down.
Her eyes widened at the state of everything,"What has happened here?"She asked, horrified. Liam turned his face towards Azel…as the nervousness from before again clouded his face,"Good afternoon, ma'am,"he wished, trying to divert the topic somehow…which he also knew was impossible now.
"Liam, what has happened here? And where is Re?"Azel was not in a position to exchange pleasantries with him now. Her heart was thudding in fear…extreme fear. Something was not right…and she could feel it for such a long time. But now she was sure about it.
"Ma'am, that…I exactly don't know where is Sir,"he bowed his head…collecting himself to answer her questions. "What has happened here?"Azel once again repeated her question. And this time her tone was firm…conveying that she would not take any illogical talk for an answer.
Liam sighed knowing full well that he had to say everything now,"Ma'am that…."He started narrating every single thing that has happened. "So much has happened? And you didn't find it necessary to tell me once, Liam? I had asked you to take care of him in my absence…and this was how you did your work?"Azel lashed out on the poor man. "Why the hell did you let him go out in such a condition? Why? His phone is showing either switched off or unreachable…and the two or three times the call gets connected he doesn't pick it up. Now where am I supposed to search for him?"Azel held her head in both of her hands…mumbling things to her own self.
Tears threatened to fall from her eyes anytime soon…making her vision blurry. She turned on her heels…no she could not waste any more time in lamenting over the things that happened.
"Ma'am, sir went to meet with your Dad. Sir wants to fix up everything by meeting with him,"Liam spoke up timidly. "To hell with the meeting. I don't want anything, all I want is my Re…safe and sound,"tears dropped down her eyes as her heart ached for the man she loves the most. "Please, Re…please be safe. You will have to be…for me…for your Wild cat,"she murmured before storming out of the office…in search of the person for whom her heart beats.
