Euphoria

Azel fluttered her eyelids, trying to open them. She was feeling so weak…as if someone drained all the energy from her body. Gathering all her strength, she slowly opened her eyes…only to get welcomed with the unfamiliar surroundings around her.
   Her eyes roamed around the whole room…as she concluded that she was in a hospital room. But she didn't have any idea as to why she was there…or when she came here. She could not remember anything. While looking at everything her eyes landed on a familiar figure, who was sitting on a stool beside her bed. He was not exactly sitting because his upper body was leaning on the bed, his head was resting beside her left hand. His fingers were touching hers. "Pl..ease…wake up,"even in his sleep his voice was constricted in pain…pleading her to open her eyes. Azel's heart churned, agonized with his condition.
   She slowly lifted up her hand that was near him, and started caressing his hair. A lone tear escaped her eyes…looking at his condition. He was still in his yesterday's clothes. All the wounds that were inflicted upon him were still open. And she could say it without any doubt, that he didn't even apply any medicine on those cuts and bruises.
    Suddenly the door of the cabin opened, grabbing Azel's attention. Her gaze landed upon a tired looking Diaan…worry lines seemed visible on his forehead. He came towards her bed as his eyes lit up. His face glimmered in joy,"Thank GOD, girl! You finally woke up, you sleepyhead,"he exclaimed in happiness. Rehan flinched in his sleep, at the high pitched voice of Diaan…but thankfully he didn't wake up. "Shh…he is sleeping,"Azel said in a low tone…as she kept on running her fingers in his hair.
   Diaan bit his tongue realizing the presence of Rehan in the room as well. He came to the other side of Azel's bed, checking up on her,"How are you feeling now?"This time he wishpered. "I'm fine…what had happened?"She asked the question, wanting to know what exactly happened to her.
  He primarily ran a check-up on her as he was not the doctor who was attending her. Being an orthopedic, he cannot treat every type of patient. Diaan grabbed another stool, taking his seat beside her,"Girl, you had scared us so much. You have any idea…you were out almost for 10 hours." "10 hours?"Azel looked at him with widened eyes. "Di…when…how…I mean…I don't remember anything after Big B and Sisila left the house."
  "Yeah, after they left, you lost consciousness…It was me and Fayza who brought you here. And aunty also came after sometimes, she was crying so badly…only mumbling one thing, she cannot lose you as well. Only I know how I managed to send aunty back home…she was not ready to leave the hospital at all. Thank GOD, Fayza was there to handle her at that time,"Diaan said in one go, making Azel confused and worried as well.
   "How is momma now? Does Daddy know? What about Big B and Sisila? Hope you didn't say anything to Sisila. She must be very worried. GOD! It's not good for her health to worry so much at this condition,"Azel again started panicking…she didn't want to cause more troubles for any of her family members. After yesterday's incident, all she wanted was to restore their peace just like before.
   "Everything is fine…everyone is fine. But in everything it's you, who forgot to take care of my wife,"Rehan's deep husky voice was heard, holding her hand which was in his hair, he lifted up his head from the bed. Azel looked towards the floor as if admiring the tiles was more important at that moment. "See, bro. That's what she always does. Ignoring me like a plague whenever I talk with her regarding all these. And it's not the first time her blood pressure dropped this low. It has happened before as well…when you were in Oman. And…."Diaan was saying when Azel pinched him hard,"Shut up, Di. You had promised me,"she whisper scolded him. Trying her best to intimidate him with her eyes.
    "Why? Why should I keep my promise? Did you keep yours? The deal was mutual that I would not say anything to Re bro regarding all that…and you will take care of yourself,"Diaan glared at her back with the same intensity. Why this girl never tried to understand how dangerous it could prove for her own health.
"I told you a thousand times to keep your BP in check. Don't take so much stress. But did you ever listen to me? Your blood pressure reading from yesterday was 90/60. Do you even understand how dangerous it is for your health? You were freezing last night…and to worsen your condition more, your cold allergy was already there. Why are you so careless, huh?"He scolded her…at that moment, he was looking less like her cousin but more like her mother. But it has been like this since forever. Diaan always loved this crazy girl just like an elder brother loves his younger sister.
  "I..I…I am sorry,"she meekly apologized…it was the only thing she could do at that moment. She tried to hold his hand which he didn't let her. "Don't say that word when you don't mean it. I know you would go back to being the same once you will go home from here,"Diaan huffed angrily, not meeting her puppy eyes showing that she was trying to melt his anger once again. Azel pouted sadly at her cousin's cold behavior…this time she looked at Rehan with scared eyes. Diaan was just upset with her..but now that Rehan got to know all those, she could sense the upcoming tornado that was going to hit her anytime soon.
   "Hey, Di. Don't stay upset with her anymore. Don't worry, man…now I'm here, right? I will also see how she gets sick from now on,"Azel's eyes widened in disbelief, she could not believe her own ears. How did this magic happen? He was supposed to scold her as well…but here he was defending her as if nothing happened. She pinched his hands..making him hiss in pain,"Ouch! Why did you pinch me?"Rehan looked at her, baffled with her antics.
  "So, it's real. I'm not dreaming?"She asked him…still not fully satisfied. "What?"Both Rehan and Diaan were confused at her talks. "Bro, I think the medicines have damaged those few cells as well, which used to work in functioning her brain properly,"Diaan joked as both the boys started cackling, having fun in teasing her. She scowled at them both,"Shut up, idiot man,"she slapped Diaan on his arms…who didn't even mind her instead showed her his tongue.
  "What I mean to say is…umm..are you not going to scold me?"She was hesitant…not understanding the reason for his different reaction. Rehan raised his one eyebrow,"Why? You want me to?" Azel immediately shook her both hands and head altogether,"No..no..no. I..I didn't mean it that way."
   "As in?"Rehan asked, staring deeply into her eyes. "I…umm…that…me,"she could not exactly make out a sentence. By her expressions it was clear that she was nervous. Diaan smiled inwardly, looking at their cute interactions. Only Rehan could make her this nervous…even without doing anything. And she had the same influence over him. "Okay, guys…you both carry on. I shall take my leave. Now that this drama queen woke up…I'm relieved. So, I'm going, feeling too sleepy right now. Bye..bye,"Diaan stood up from his place waving his hands towards them. Azel looked at him with an accusing gaze for bursting her little secret to Rehan, but didn't say anything looking at his tired face.
   "Okay, man. Be safe on your way,"Rehan also stood up…sharing a brotherly hug, they bid their byes. After locking the door, Rehan came back and took his previous seat. "You are already sick and I know how much you hate it when I scold you. Hence, I'm not saying anything. What is the point of scolding you regarding the past matters?"Rehan explained not wanting her to start stressing over it once again. Azel let out the breath, she was holding for so long.
   But her relief didn't last longer, hearing his next words,"But that certainly does not mean that I'm not angry with you,"he said plainly, looking at the opposite side of her direction. Azel gasped,"Bu…but that's not done. You just said…"
   "I said I would not scold you…and I'm not scolding you as well. But I didn't say I would not get angry,"he looked everywhere except her. "Re, please..don't be like this. Please,"she tried to hold his hand but he moved his stool a bit far from her…in that way, he was out of her reach. Azel pouted at his silent treatment. "It would have been better if you would have scolded me rather than giving me your cold shoulder,"she whined like a child…trying to grab his attention. But who was she kidding? He was the king of stubbornness. He didn't even look at her, rather took out his phone from his pant's pocket.
   "If you wish then call aunty…I had promised her to make her talk with you as soon as you wake up,"forwarding his phone towards her…but she held his hand, instead of taking the phone,"I would do nothing as long as you talk with me,"her tone demanding. At that moment he wanted nothing to hug her tightly to his chest. But he could not do that…not now at least. She also needed to understand how he felt yesterday hearing everything from Diaan. "Then don't. Nowadays when you listen to me anyways? So, leave my hand,"although he said that, but in actuality did nothing to detach his hand from hers. After hearing him, she didn't let go of his hand rather intertwined both of their fingers…holding onto him more tightly. And he let her do that as well.
  "Please, you said…you would not scold me. But your this silent anger…it's so unbearable for me to take. Please scold me to your heart's content…but don't ignore me like this. You know I would not be able to take it. It's hurting so much, Re,"her tone was desperate...so was she…desperate for his attention, desperate for his love, desperate to talk with him, desperate for him to hug her.
  This time, Rehan could no longer ignore her pleas,"And what about the pain I felt the previous night? What about the affliction you put me through…hiding so much about your health?"His questions made her quiet. What would she probably say? She had no answers at all.
  Seeing her getting quiet, he again started speaking,"How..how could you be so careless about yourself? And you hid everything from me! On top of that now you expect me to not get angry with you as well? What would you feel if I would have been in your….."he could not finish his sentence due to the abrupt pull from her. As he was totally not prepared for this, hence he totally landed over her. Thank GOD, he balanced himself at the last moment to not put all his body weight over her.
   "Are you crazy? What if you got hurt?"Rehan was about to get up from her body when she slid her arms around his neck, not letting him detach his body from hers,"Yes, I'm crazy…but that's only for you,"she winked at him, immediately his ears along with his cheeks colored red. In a snap of a moment he could feel the existence of numerous butterflies in his stomach.
Azel cupped his face with both of her hands, caressing his cheeks with her thumbs. She placed a soft kiss on his forehead…making him close his eyes. She then placed feathery kisses on both of his eyelids…followed by his nose tip and cheeks as well. He could not help but lose himself in that euphoric feeling. All the anger, sadness, pain…everything remained forgotten.
  "I love you the most, my Lunatic,"she softly whispered the magical words near his ear. His lips stretched out in a breathtaking smile, upon opening his eyes he looked towards the most beautiful creation of GOD,"I love you more than myself, my Wild cat,"he also placed a kiss on her forehead…pouring all the love, passion and respect he always feels towards her. It was now time for Azel to blush hard. "My life! Please don't blush like this. My heart just wants to leap out of my ribcage…but I want to live a longggg life with you. And this blush which is adorning your already adorable face is not helping me at anyhow,"his talks didn't help the situation at all…she blushed more. "Then you stop saying all these,"she bit her inner cheeks, trying to bite back the smile that wanted to grace her lips. "Why?"He asked, teasing her more. "I…I feel shy,"she replied meekly and immediately hid her face in his chest, not wanting him to see her red face.
  She heard his melodious chuckle which vibrated through his chest. She snuggled in his warmth feeling extremely peaceful. She didn't know if people could feel more peace than this. And to add cherry on top, the frantic beats of his heart was just music to her ears. He slowly shifted his body in the bed, not breaking the hug…that was providing the utmost warmth to him. None of them spoke a word after that…they didn't need to. Because their hearts were speaking with each other in their very own cadence.
   "Re, I want to talk with mumma,"after spending some time in silence, Azel broke it…expressing her wish. Rehan loosened the hug as he looked at her,"You know..how much of a big cheater are you?" Azel gasped at his accusation,"What did I do?"She pouted, looking as innocent as a little baby.
   "You always melt my anger with all your antics, cheater wild cat. It's not fair, knowing all my weaknesses you always hit my weak spot,"this time he pouted…making her giggle. And he kept admiring her, without blinking. He knew that it was impossible for him to discover the secret as to how she would always manage to look breathtaking in each and every form of hers. Whenever he would be with her…the only wish that his heart earnestly would make was for the time to stop moving further. Because everytime he would look at her, he just could not stop himself from falling for her more deeply…more profoundly.
   But suddenly his eyes landed on something, and for a moment he felt as if his world had stopped. He immediately placed his one hand under her chin, making her face him more prominently. Taking his face near hers, he stared at her right cheek…intently. Though his behavior confused Azel at first, it didn't take long for her to understand what he was inspecting on her face! "Re, give your phone, na,"Azel shook him…trying to divert his attention. "Is…is it from yes..yesterday?"Rehan asked her…his voice shook thinking even about the possibilities.
"Re, I…"
  "Did un…uncle raise his hand at you?"He didn't let her finish her sentence rather once again questioned. She sighed knowing he was not going to let it slide as long as she didn't answer him. Not finding any other way out, she finally nodded. He slowly traced his fingers over the slap mark…that had swollen now leaving prominent traces of five fingers on her cheeks. She slightly hissed when his fingers came in touch with her wounded skin. Disadvantages of having way too much sensitive skin.
   Tears gathered in his eyes…and started falling too, without any prior notice. One by one the salty water drops started cascading down from his eyes over her cheeks. "Re, please don't be like this, sweetheart. It's nothing, just a small scratch. Trust me it will be absolutely alright soon,"she tried to console him, wiping away his tears. But her assurance only pierced his heart…even in her pain she had to console him. He was not there when she was in need of him.
   These thoughts started crushing his heart and soul. He placed a soft kiss on her wounded cheek…the kiss was as tender as if she were candy floss. Her eyes immediately got closed off, in anticipation.
  "I'm sorry, Love. I could not protect you well,"Rehan apologized, feeling too guilty for everything. Azel held both his hands with hers,"Please don't say it like that, Re,"her tone pleading him.
  "Then what should I say? It was me who was the sole reason for everything. If not for me you would have been at home spending time with all the family members together. If I would not have been there in your life…."
   "Then this Azel would have never existed. I came into this world…only for you. And if not for you…then there would be no existence of mine,"she cut him off in the middle. She didn't want him to think all these ever…but the situation they were in, she was unable to stop those negative thoughts from invading his senses.
   "But I…"he was again cut off as she covered his mouth with her right hand. But her next action totally took him off guard…his eyes widened in shock. She placed her lips over her own hand…the only distance in their lips was the hand she had placed in between. His breathing strained…turning heavier at her talks.
   "If you still don't stop, then what I will do next, will surely seal your lips. And I will not be responsible for the consequences, Mr. Husband,"she winked at him…removing her hand from his mouth only to witness a totally shocked Rehan with his mouth hung open. He still could not believe his eyes, regarding the bold move she took. Azel wanted to laugh at his cute expressions…but she kept her serious face on.
   Caressing his cheeks,"If I even get a day to live on this planet…then I want to spend that very day of mine, only with you. That's how I love you, Re. So don't you dare speak or think anything rubbish. Otherwise I already told you the consequences,"her voice was filled with sincerity and seriousness.
    And just like any other time, once again…he fell in love with her. And it was the most euphoric feeling of his life,"I love you, my euphoria,"he kissed at her nose tip. She smiled at hearing his new endearment for her,"I love you too, my only ecstasy,"he could not help but giggle at her words. Only she had the power to make him happy like this, when he hardly could think about that. After all, her love for him was the best thing he was gifted from GOD..she was his paradise, his only Nirvana.
