Shattered hearts

"Daddy...please let me go. He..he needs me,"Azel tried to remove the death grip on her hand applied by her father. "You just go to your room,"Andrew said, pushing Azel from there. He didn't mean to push her that harshly...but in all the rumpus it just happened.
She lost her balance causing her to stumble on her own leg. Rehan's eyes widened, he wanted to get up...but the pain in his back along with his whole body didn't support him at all. He fell on his back once again. There Azel also closed her eyes ready to embrace the cold floor. But she felt that she was secured in strong muscular arms.
Rehan left the breath he was holding onto...relief washed over him, seeing that Azel was safe. Nothing happened to her. Azel opened her eyes, as she discovered herself in her brother's arms,"B...Big B..."a whisper escaped her lips. Hrew made her stand up, careful enough to not hurt her more. Her bloody hands, wounded leg, swollen face, teary puffy eyes...nothing escaped from his gaze. Immediately he pulled her in his arms...pressing her head in his chest,"Yes, Baby,"he softly caressed her hair.
"Big B...Re..."Azel sobbed, clutching his shirt. Her index pointed at Rehan, who was trying to stand up from the floor. Hrew followed her indication, only to witness a bone chilling scene in front of him. It didn't take much time for Hrew to understand what must have happened here. His eyes fell on his father who was still raging like a wounded lion. "Shh, I'm here now, right? I'll make everything alright,"he softly cooed near her ears.
At that time, a loud gasp was heard, Tune along with Twinkle in her arms, came towards Hrew and Azel...almost running,"Oh GOD! Princess? What...what has happ...happened to you?"Her voice was shaken up. Her eyes turned glossy looking at Azel's condition. Azel broke the hug with Hrew...as Tune immediately side hugged her,"I...I'm sorry, Baby. We got late,"she apologized, her voice cracking badly. Azel shook her head in the negative...trying to say that it was not her fault. But except for a sob nothing came out of her mouth. "Shh...everything will be fine, Princess. Everything will be fine now,"Tune caressed Azel's back and hair trying to give her a bit of comfort...she was in dire need of.
There Andrew's almost diminished flames of anger once again, lit up with full force upon seeing Tune. This girl was one of the reasons for all these catastrophes. But he didn't say anything to her right at that moment, when he saw Twinkle was in her arms. He had that much sanity to not scare away the little kid.
Handing over Twinkle in the hands of a maid, who took the baby upstairs...away from all these chaos, Tune rushed towards Rehan as well. Her heart churned in pain, at the miserable condition of her best friend. She made him sit down on the floor...tears trickled down her cheeks. Rehan wiped her tears,"I'm fine, silly. Don't cry like this."
"I'm sorry, Re. I...I should have been there for you. It's...all my fault,"she said in a low tone. Rehan gestured to her in the negative, going to say something. Before that Andrew spoke up,"Yes, you should be sorry. All of this is really happening because of you. It's all your fault. Sometimes I really doubt whether you really consider us as your family or not? Did you really love Azel like you claim to love her?"He pointed his finger at Tune, questioning her as if he didn't know the answers of those. Tune along with others present there were shocked at the words of Andrew.
"What are you saying, Daddy?"Hrew didn't understand why Andrew was blaming Tune for all these. She didn't even know what had happened in the restaurant. Was it just because Rehan is her best friend and for some reason, he didn't like Rehan? Was this even reasonable enough to blame Tune for all these? "You just keep quiet, Hrew. When you didn't say anything and let your wife destroy my daughter's life for her best friend. Then today also you don't have any right to open your mouth,"Andrew was not even realizing how much he was going to regret each of his harsh words he spat in his anger.
"Daddy, wh..why are you saying like this?"Tune could not handle anymore...how could her father-in-law say that? Even after all these years, did he understand her only that much? "Why? Is it hurting now? Then why didn't it hurt when you lied to my face...making all those fake claims?"Andrew spatted angrily. "Daddy, please...you need to calm down first. You are not even aware of what you are speaking right now. Please,"Hrew came forward...trying to calm his father down. Andrew chuckled hearing his son,"Here comes my son in the defense of his wife once again. And there is my daughter, trying to save this guy. Great! None of my kids are actually mine, right? Not any of them ever tried to understand their father,"he said in a dejected voice. Today he was getting the feeling of being the biggest loser. His own kids abandoned him...for others. Both Hrew and Azel looked at their father with helpless eyes. What was he even saying? Tune shed tears of pain and anguish at such indifferent behavior of her father-in-law. She was not used to this side of him...he was not just her father-in-law...rather he was her another dad. She loved and respected him just like her own father. And till date she thought he also loved her like Azel...but was it really true? Today whatever Andrew said to her, every word that left his mouth was hurting her heart so bad...wounding it badly.
"You know he didn't mean it,"Rehan whispered softly, holding her hand before giving it an assuring squeeze. Tune nodded her head...wiping away her tears. "Daddy, please don't be like this. What has happened? At least talk with us. Let's talk things out. This is no way to get any kind of solution for anything,"Hrew tried to reason with his father. But who was he kidding? His father had already lost his sanity to understand things clearly. Hrew's heart clenched in pain when his eyes landed on the love of his life who was shedding her tears in silence. And his younger sister...his Princess, was frozen on her spot...totally traumatized with everything happening around her.
"There is nothing left to talk about. All I know is Azel is not going to have any kind of connection with this guy,"Andrew announced without any care of anyone. Both Hrew and Tune felt the stiffening bodies of the two souls regarding whom the cruel verdict was declared just now.
"Everything is going to be fine. I'm there, right?"Both of them tried to assure the restless souls. Hrew caressed Azel's hair...gesturing to her with his eyes that he would fulfill his promise that he made just now. While this time Tune gave Rehan's hand a light squeeze assuring him that she would do anything but would never leave his side.
Andrew didn't say anything more..he took a few steps to go upstairs in his room, when Tune made Rehan stand up, after making sure he would be able to stand on his own feet,"Re, I'll drop you off. You need immediate dressing,"she told Rehan,"I'm okay, Tu. Don't worry."
"No, you badly need treatment, Re...so does she,"Hrew spoke up, pointing his finger at Azel...who was still in a daze, standing on her spot like a statue. Rehan's heart broke into so many little pieces looking at her...she looked so defeated...so broken...so devastated. "Star, you go with him,"Hrew came towards Tune and caressed her hair...pressing a warm kiss on her head,"And don't take too much stress about anything. I'm here. You just take care of yourself and him too. He needs you,"she nodded at him.
"Hrew inform your wife with this piece of information as well that if today she goes with this guy...then she doesn't need to return here. We don't need her here...not anymore. Today she needs to choose who is more important in her life...her best friend or this family,"Andrew stated firmly...all the heads snapped in his direction. For a moment each one of them were speechless. Tears left Tune's eyes...as the world around her started spinning. She stumbled a bit, about to fall down.
"Star/Tu/Sisila?"All of them immediately rushed towards her. Hrew secured his wife in his arms...who was shaking visibly. Both Rehan and Azel looked at Tune...with so much guilt and pain. They were the reason behind all these. If not for them, Tune would never have to deal with such things.
"Tu, it's...it's okay. You don't have to go with me. I...I will go on my own,"Rehan held her shoulders..not wanting to create more problems. "Wait, Re. This is not any kind of solution to any problem. In everything, why should your friendship suffer?"Hrew stopped Rehan before directing his next words towards Andrew,"You cannot do this, Daddy. She is my wife...and he is her best friend. How can you put forth such a condition?"Hrew immediately voiced out his thoughts...he was quite aggrieved at the unreasonable behavior of his father.
"And this is my house...so I will decide who will stay here and who will not,"but Andrew didn't budge from his position...not at all. Nothing seemed enough to melt his heart today. Hrew looked at his father...hurt and pain was all he felt. Expecting to see a glint of softness in him...trying to ensure whatever his father said just now, he didn't mean any of that. But alas! All Hrew could see was a man standing tall with his ego and self esteem...who was not ready to listen to anyone. How did things mess up to such an extent?
"Fine, then...we will leave your house soon, Daddy,"Hrew replied plainly...taking all of them by surprise once again. "Hri, what are you saying? You cannot do this. This is not the solution as well,"Tune clutched his shirt...trying to make him understand. Both Azel and Rehan nodded their heads, agreeing with him. "If that is the case, then you know the door. See yourself out. Just get out of my sight,"but Andrew's words did nothing except for worsening the situation more.
"Shut up, Drew. That's enough,"Hazel's voice echoed through the whole living area. All of them turned around only to see her standing at the doorstep with a broken look on her face. Tears were streaming down her eyes...making them puffy and red. Behind her Diaan, Arne and Fayza were also standing. "Ela?"Andrew whispered before climbing down the stairs once again.
"Maybe you are forgetting Drew, this is not just your house...but mine too. And I have the right to make decisions in this household as well,"Hazel strode towards Andrew...matching her eyes with him. Today there was immense anger in her hazel eyes...which is very rare to see. "Ela, I..."
"Yes, you, Drew. You cannot just ask my kids to get out of this house,"her tone was harsh...so were her words. "Yo...your kids? Are they only...yours?"Andrew could not suppress the hurt he felt, after hearing her. Hazel glared at him,"Just because I called them only mine...you are feeling hurt? Then the things you were speaking about for so long, did you ever reconsider those?"
Her question made him dumbfounded. He really didn't think about the weight his words had. "Arne, take Rehan to the hospital first and then drop him home...but only after making sure that all his wounds were dressed properly,"Hazel ordered Arne. Both Tune and Rehan looked at Hazel helplessly. So was this the end? Would Tune not be able to contact Rehan after this? This only thought made them feel so incomplete...so broken.
"If you have any say regarding their friendship...then it's your problem. But they would not be breaking it...just because you could not appreciate things Tune did for all these years...for all of us,"she pointed her words at Andrew...making him speechless.
Both Tune and Rehan could not express the kind of relief that washed over both of them. They both looked towards Hazel with teary eyes...grateful enough to have her. "Rehan, you should go now, son. We will have a talk when people will be sane enough to have a civil conversation,"Rehan nodded his head...taking his leave from there in silence. Not wanting to make the issue more bigger by staying there. He gave a longing look towards Azel...till he could see her.
Azel did the same...till he was in her view. Both Arne and Rehan left from there...with heavy hearts. None of them wanted to leave from there...at least not when things were like this. Yet they both knew it better, staying there was not going to help the situation either.
"How...how could you say that, Ela?"Finally Andrew voiced out his feelings. How could she be this indifferent towards him? Did she not know why he was behaving like this? He even told her almost everything on the phone. Still, how could she blame him for all these?
"I'm going to ask you the same question, Drew. How could you say things like those, huh? This girl...she! You were giving her options...to stay in this house? That too what? Either she needs to cut off her friendship with her best friend...or she would not be able to stay in this house? Like seriously, Drew? Rehan was always there for her. He came into her life even before any of us. How could you even put forth such a condition in front of her? If I ask you to leave your best friend or I would not stay with you...would you be able to choose one aming us?"
"Ela, you are being unreasonable now. Why would you bring Chris and my friendship here?"Andrew didn't understand why she was unable to understand him. "Am I being unreasonable? Or are you being unreasonable? We can't bring your friendship with Chris bro here...because it's not similar to the topic we should be discussing, right?"Hazel asked him...making him nod his head. "Then how can you bring her and Re's friendship in between all these messes? Drew, it's your daughter who loves Rehan. Yes, Tune has helped them...but she didn't force them to get into a relationship. It was their own decision. And you cannot blame it upon Tune."
"But Rehan is ill...he has such serious health issues. And despite knowing everything, she encouraged Azel to get into a relationship with Rehan, didn't she? She kept this hidden from us...for so long, didn't she? And if not for today, I would have never got to know about his illness ever. She kept us in the dark, Ela. Do you understand that?"Andrew stated his point. Tune lowered her head...every time she was also scared of this thing only. She never wanted Rehan's sickness to hurt Azel ever...but she never wanted Rehan to suffer from the pain of heartbreak. In no way, he would ever be able to take that.
Hazel also became quiet this time...as she was also not aware of why Tune did this. But that one decision of helping Azel and Rehan that Tune took, had now made them stand at the verge of destruction. After all, who would want to sign a lifetime pain in their own daughter's destiny?
Hrew was about to take a stand for his wife, when Azel spoke for the first time in all this while,"Sisila didn't know about this at first," Andrew glared at her,"Stop lying to my face...every damn time, Azel,"he grumbled, expecting her to shut her mouth.
But this time Azel didn't back out. She had enough of everytime getting misunderstood like this. Why could they not just hear things out...before jumping onto conclusions? "Daddy, believing it or not is your choice...but I'm telling the truth. The time when I fell for him or we got into a relationship, I or Sisila didn't know about this problem,"Azel was saying when Andrew cut her off,"That means that guy is a total fraud. He lied to you both...and you two are still supporting him?"He scoffed at their irrational behavior.
"He didn't lie to me or Sisila or any of us. He...."she was once again cut off by her father,"Unbelievable, Azel...that's just unbelievable! You became so blind in his love that despite knowing he cheated on you..you are still supporting that fraudster? And Tune is always there to back him up, right? I must say, he is a mastermind cheater,"Andrew clapped his hands...mocking the girls' for their stupidity.
"Daddy, he never lied...how would he? He, himself, is unaware of his condition right now! He has PTSD...he has forgotten his past, the accident, his...his biological mother and his unborn sister. For him, his mother is only Ava aunty, who was the nurse at the hospital, Rehan was admitted into...she took care of him with motherly love and care. And Rehan assumed his mom was her. Hence, Riley uncle and Ava aunty had to get married just for the sake of the kid...who had lost his mother along with his memories, going through the most difficult phase of his life. Since then his life has drastically changed...from a lively young boy to a distant...silent boy. And due to his PTSD, he often forgets things, places, dates and sometimes people as well. But he was always told that it's due to a high fever he got in his childhood causing him to develop such dementia. How would he lie to us when he is clueless about everything?"Tune finally spoke out...about the sufferings her best friend has gone through. Her heart would always break apart whenever she thinks about all these. Why was destiny so cruel? Why only innocent souls had to suffer?
"What?"Whispers after whispers escaped from people's lips. Andrew, Hazel, Fayza...all were shocked...standing rooted at their own spots. Andrew would not lie...he was really regretting raising his hands on the poor guy. All this while, he thought that Rehan deliberately cheated on his daughter...in which Tune also helped him. But now when he got to know everything...he could not help but feel so guilty for hurling all sorts of insults towards that boy.
"Yes. Riley uncle told us himself. It had been one year of our relationship. If I loved him since the very first of our relationship...then after knowing everything my love and respect for that man only increased with each passing moment. He was the strongest person I have ever seen. He survived everything and despite knowing his flaws, he never really let that affect him from growing as a flawless human being. Daddy, till date, Re never let even a small scratch fall upon me. The way he loves me...no one ever could even think of that kind of love,"Azel spoke her heart out today. She wanted to let the whole world know how much Rehan loved her. So why not begin it from her own home? It must seem boasting to others...and why should she not do it? When she is blessed to have such a life partner like him?
"And I have never lied to you, Daddy...yes, I agree that I hid such a serious matter from you. But it never really bothered me. Because I love him in the same way. I would do anything and everything in my power to keep him safe always,"Azel kept her head high...while she professed her love for Rehan. She was proud to have him in her life.
Whereas, after hearing Azel's talks, Fayza's eyes shone in tears. How did she misunderstand everything...like this? Her one action had brought them all to such a position. How could she? How could she be so wrong in judging people? Shit! What did she do? Yes, she wanted Rehan to love her...she wanted to be the person for Rehan, that Azel is. But not like this. Specially not when both loved each other so much. Not at the cost of the heartbreaks and tears of those innocent hearts.
She knew she would never be able to build her castle of love over the graves of someone else's hearts. Hence she always wanted to pursue Rehan by fair means. Even when somewhere she knew since before that she was the one to get left with a broken heart. Still for once she wanted to try...try to gain his love. But what the hell did she do? How did she become such a vile woman to destroy two innocent lives for her own selfish motives?
"I'm really sorry for whatever Rehan had to go through...nobody deserves to endure what he has faced,"Andrew left a deep sigh...his voice softer than before...yet it was constricted. A silent tear escaped Azel's eyes...as Rehan's innocent face flashed in front her view. "But it's still a no from my side,"Andrew's next words once again made all of them look at him in disbelief.
"W...why?"Azel choked on her tears. Why now? Even after knowing everything why her father still wanted to complicate things more? Andrew went towards Azel...keeping his hands on her shoulders he looked at her deep blue eyes. Her oceanic orbs which used to shine in happiness today were holding only pain...immense pain.
"Princess, after knowing everything...how can I hand you to him? He is sick, Baby...and...and GOD forbids what if...something happens to him in future?"As soon as Andrew said that Azel took a few steps back from him...looking at him with incredulity. She started shaking her head vigorously,"Wh...what are you saying? How...how could you? He...nothing will happen to him. No, I would never let anything happen to him. How could you say that?"She broke down into tears...all the pain she was feeling since so long now ruptured in the form of her heart wrenching sobs.
Andrew immediately rushed towards her, gathering her in his arms...he placed a soft kiss at the crown of her head,"Please don't be like this, Princess. I know you love him very much...and he loves you as well. But...we cannot live our whole life based on love only. Along with love we need security and protection from our partners. But...here, everything is too difficult...so complicated. And things would get more complicated in the future. It's not even certain that in the upcoming days whether he would remember you or not is not even certain. Then...how can you think of living a lifetime with him? It's easier saying than done, child,"Andrew tried to make her understand.
Azel broke the hug, looking at her father,"I cannot believe you are saying all these, Daddy. You also had loved momma...yours was also a love marriage, wasn't it? Then how come you say it like that? Didn't you both face difficulties in your lives? Was life always this smooth for you both, Daddy? Did you both leave each other's hand in the middle just because you had faced some difficult situation? If not then why can you not let me be with him? I...I know, mine and Re's situation is different...very different. But I have full faith in my love...he might forget the whole world, but he would never forget me. He...he has promised me...he would never leave me. Then how did you think I would break my promise?"
Andrew shook Azel vigorously by her shoulders,"Azel, come out of your delusional world. Life is not a novel...it's a reality which is too cruel. And you need to accept this....you and he cannot be together. It's not possible...I would not allow that."
"And what if I say if Azel would live...then it will be only with Rehan?"Azel asked...her voice as cold as ice. A chill ran down Andrew's spine...hearing her. What was she saying? She has totally gone mad. "Then Azel will need to choose one between her father and her lover. If today she chose her lover...then I would forget that I had a daughter as well,"with that saying Andrew stood up...leaving a shocked...broken girl behind.
Like always, once again, in the battle of life and soul...the heart had to give it up. In the war of a lover and a daughter...a girl once again lost her everything. In the tussle of passion and prestige...the love ceased to exist once more.
