Needing therapy, I make an appointment with Cynthia for a hair treatment. I'm her last client on Tuesday night. She's playing smooth jazz, and she's gotten us Riesling to sip on.
I say, "I have some more on that mother and daughter who like the same guy."
"Honey, whatcha got?"
"Well, supposedly the daughter dumped the guy, so he told the mother. She says it was a really vulnerable moment. The guy had just lost his grandmother, whom he was close to. He and the mother bonded, along with drinking. They passed out on her couch together. They woke up, started kissing, and ended up having sex. But, he and her daughter reconciled and are getting engaged! ...Cynthia, I don't know what to tell this woman."
"Tell her she's a hot ass mess! That's what you tell her! Will you please tell her that for me?"
"Yeah. I guess, but don't you think the guy is wrong too?"
"Nope, because I told you months ago this was going to happen. See, now this heifer is probably trying to see him as her son, but if your daughter is seriously dating a guy, you should already see him as your son. Whether you approve of him or not, he's in your child's life. Embrace him as a son until he's truly gone!"
"But he told her they were over."
"Didn't you say she said they're getting engaged?"
"Yes. They are engaged."
"C'mon, Mae. Now, do you think he didn't tell that mama he loved her daughter?"
"She didn't say, but I'd assume he did."
"Trust me, that boy didn't go over there to screw the mama! He went over there hoping the mama would help him win the daughter back! He's young, so he doesn't know how conniving and cunning women truly are yet. He thought he was convincing the mama to help him, but all she did was use his vulnerability to help her, help herself, into his damn pants!"
"Oh, Cynthia, I know this woman. She's not that low."
"No, honey. You think you know this woman, but you don't! Any woman trifling enough to sleep with her own daughter's boyfriend is beyond low in my book. Tell that woman to repent and ask Jesus for a heart, not a new heart, but a heart, period! Because to do that to her own baby is just heartless! In fact, don't mention that woman ever again. I hate her. And you can't have hate in your heart and see Jesus. I'm trying to see Him. So keep her out of my face."
"Girl, you're crazy."
I leave Cynthia feeling way worse than I came. Although I know no one will side with me, I still feel misunderstood. It's so easy to say what you wouldn't do when you're not in that situation.
I'm sure most Christians say they'd never deny Christ like Peter, but the majority of us aren't Peter, yet he denied Jesus. So, how would we know what we'd do in that situation? I'm fully convinced 99 percent of us would've followed Peter's lead. Additionally, we often use Peter as the example, but the Bible says that all forsook Jesus. y's
Oh, now I want to preach. Amazing how we never have a scripture before we sin, nor do we have one against our sin. However, once we sin, we regurgitate every scripture that seemingly condones that sin. Sadly, today, scripture or no scripture, I find no relief in this.
It's almost 10 p.m. when I get home. Trevor is lying on the couch, talking erotically to his girlfriend. Once he sees me, he sits up straight, saying, "I gotta go. ...Hey, ma. You look so fine. Your hair is fabulous."
"Thanks, Trev. How was Ernest and Stacy?"
"Ma, they wowed me! Lola's daddy's so rich, it's crazy! Lola must really love you, ma, 'cause if he were my daddy, sorry, I'd have to let you go, for real!"
