After my mother and I talked, I began watching Lola. Still, I see no malice or hidden jealousy. She seems genuine, and I've been with her almost every weekend since we reconnected.
Ernest had Christmas at his house this year, so I wasn't able to spend Christmas with Lola. It wasn't until David and Solomon went on a business trip in February that I was able to visit Lola's gorgeous home for a weekend.
Lola told Solomon she's bored with only being a housewife. As a result, she's now the head of their new company. Their office supply company has branched out and now offers printing services, including business cards, banners, and more, under the name Savannah & Hyde Marketing. Lola's actually the CEO there, but because it's so small, she prefers to be titled as Human Resources for now.
Lola and I are out with Hyde this Saturday afternoon. She's remodeling her office and wants me to help her choose new borders and draperies. Laughing, I tease, "This is a pretty elegant office."
"Yeah."
"Everything alright?"
"I'm sorry, Mommy. I'm fine. I'm reading King's text. I totally forgot I need to meet with a client this afternoon. It's a semi-professional meeting, but I need to meet her as soon as possible. Will you please keep Hyde until King gets him? He'll be able to relieve you by 3."
"Sure! Watching my Hyde is no chore at all. You know that."
"King will be at Mrs Tolbert's house to inspect it this afternoon. So take Hyde home with you. King will meet you there."
"Oh wow. So Mrs T's really coming back to Indigo Beach?"
"Yeah, apparently so."
"How is that situation?"
"Nasty, but she's sick, not senile, so she has the right to make her own decisions concerning her life." I nod.
Hyde and I get to my home. He's sound asleep, so I hop in the shower. Once I'm dressed, I make myself a cup of coffee and sit reading next to my Hyde. A quarter to three I hear a car drive up so I hurry to my foyer window. It's Solomon.
Fidgety, I sit back down and wait for him to come over. A few minutes later, my doorbell rings. Opening my door, he greets, "Hey, Mae."
"Hi," I mumble as he steps inside.
He stood staring my way, so I pointed and said, "He's by the couch asleep."
Solomon walks over to Hyde. Seeing his precious face, he smiles. Setting Hyde's car seat onto the couch, he kisses his cheek and then removes Hyde, asking, "May I lay him on your bed? I hate seeing him sitting asleep. It looks so uncomfortable."
"I got him a bed! It's in Lola's old room."
"Cool."
I follow as he carries Hyde upstairs. Gentle, he places him into bed. As I reach across him, I say, "Let me cut the camera monitor on."
Solomon leaned away. Flustered, I continued, "There, it's on." I turn and hurry back to the living room.
Once downstairs, he says, "I'm just going to take a look around my nana's place, see what needs repairs, then I'll get Hyde."
"Take your time. He's not bothering me one bit."
I'm so jittery I can't even look him in the face. He stands analyzing my nervousness until I look up. Our eyes lock, he nods, then leaves.
Every five minutes, I'm checking out the window, seeing if he's returning. It's then I see Gypsy approach him. She's laughing and caressing his arm as she speaks to him. Solomon then points towards my home. If this witch thinks she's seeing Hyde, she's crazy. Once he points my way, her grin fades. She knows she's never welcomed into my home ever again. They say a few more words, and then she heads home as Solomon goes inside.
