The wedding day is here. The ceremony is held at Ernest and Stacy's humongous Catholic Church. Lola nor Solomon are Catholic, but that's Ernest's monetary persuasion. The edifice is decorated to perfection. There are pillars down the aisle draped in white sheer curtains with live hellebores stitched to them. It's just magnificent. The entire wedding party is wearing white. The bridesmaids' gowns are bright white with an embroidered black damask design down the back of it. The groomsmen have on black slacks with white tuxedo jackets and black accessories. Ernest, David, and Drake match the groomsmen. Stacy and Leah match the bridesmaids. Mrs Tolbert is wearing a beautiful gown that's white at the top with a black flaring bottom. My dress is black at the top with a white fitted bottom. And then there's the bride and groom.Solomon is wearing all black. He looks so beautiful that he appears unreal. And my Lola has on a glistening white gown with an embroidered all crystal design down the back and outlining it. She's wearing a tiara that's more less a crown. It looks as if an angel replaced her for today. The ceremony is simply perfection.
We're now standing at the head of the church as the guest greet us before heading to the reception. My baby and Solomon are so happy. Everyone seems overjoyed as they shake our hands. However, I can't stop glancing at Solomon. Now he's legally my son. His smiles and grins are simply marvelous. I find myself grinning because of his joy. Once I look away I realize Gypsy's standing in front of me.
"Hi Gypsy."
Staring at Solomon she gushes, "He is astounding isn't he?"
Frowning I blink. Releasing a loud sigh she continues, "I hope all that church comes in handy. You're going to need it."
Before I reply, I calm myself. Now shrugging as if I'm clueless to what she means, patting my shoulder she smirks, "No worries. You'll get it soon enough."
I fling her hand off of me and then shake the hand of the guest behind her.
We've been taking photos over an hour at church. My photos are finally done. I sit on the pew next to Terri. She looks elegant in her perfectly tailored black gown. I say, "Terri, you've outdone yourself. This is immaculate."
"Thanks Mae. I'm glad you all love it. I'm exhausted, but now I have to get to the reception before everyone." She chuckles.
"You need me to do anything?"
"On your daughter's wedding day? Don't be ridiculous."
Suddenly I hear Trevor calling out, "Ma!"
"Oh Lord duty calls. See you at the reception." I say, then kiss Terri's cheek.
Once I'm up front I hear the photographer say, "I need a few photos of the mother-in-law and groom."
Solomon extends his hand out to grab mine, smiling and cool as ever. We take our photos. They look excellent. Lola's intensely watching us. Solomon sees her, then winks at her smiling. Bashful, she bites her thumb nail giving him a wanton gaze. Returning the sentiment, he then looks at his watch. Now blushing she closes her eyes while shaking her head.
We're done. The photographer says, "Very beautiful mother you gained Solomon."
Nodding Solomon replies, "Yes she is."
Wide-eyed I look up at him but he cuts his eyes towards Lola. She grabs his hand as he kisses hers, and then they head to the Rolls Royce Ernest rented for them.
Mrs Tolbert tells Roger she wants me to ride in their Rolls Royce with them. It's then Elgin walks up. I say, "Mrs T, I'm with Elgin."
Mrs Tolbert waves us off then Roger escorts her to her car. Elgin and I get into the parents' car then head to the reception.
