**Carlyn's POV**

I stare at Josh, stunned, and turn to look at Brendon. I rush over to him as fast as I can. I can't believe his eyes are open. "Bren! Bren! can you see me? I ask through my tears. "Jish, his eyes are open. "Bren, can you hear me? If you can hear me, can you squeeze my hand? I feel a light squeeze and burst into happy tears. "Carlyn, did Brendon just talk?"
"Quick Jish, press the call button for a nurse

Dr. Merrik and her team come running  and soon  usher us out of the room. They need to carry out some more tests. "I can't believe he heard me. He was looking right at me, and he squeezed my hand, Jish." I am so relieved, I cry. "Once we know what's happening, you go back in and be with Brendon. I'll phone Pete, and he can update everyone. I am so happy for you, Carlyn." He says, giving me a quick hug.

Just then, Dr. Merrik comes out of Bren's room. "Brendon is showing signs of being in a Minimal Conscious State. This is when a person has a limited awareness of their surroundings and events that are happening around them. He was able to make eye contact and follow an item such as my finger. We need to observe him over the next couple of days and take him for anotber MRI in the morning. He may become more responsive over the next few days, and he most possibly will need help remembering. He  will be disorientated for a while.  Carlyn, you said he spoke?
"Yes, he said my name. He said Carly, that's what he calls me."
"Ok, he was unable to speak to me when I was in with him, but that's only to be expected. He has been unconscious for a week. I will be back in the morning to check on him. Meanwhile, I suggest you get some rest while he is sleeping. Goodnight Carlyn "

We say goodnight, and I head back to Brendon, and Josh is heading over to Pete's to let him know what's happened. "Hey, Bren, I am so proud of you. I promise we will get through this. I won't let you go, and I won't give up. I love you so much. Goodnight, babe. "

That night is the first night that I slept peacefully, well as peacefully as you can, at almost 32 weeks pregnant.

**Pete's POV**

Josh has just left. Holy shit Brendon opened his eyes and spoke. I am so relieved and happy for Carlyn. I know they will have a long road ahead of them, but it can only get better, can't it? I still don't know what to do about the Elise situation. Do I wait and see if Brendon remembers anything from that night? I really don't want to put any more stress on Carlyn. I can't speak to Meagan about it either as she will pissed on Carlyn's behalf and she'll insist on telling her.

**Time Skip 2 weeks later **

**Carlyn's POV**

The past few weeks have been hectic, I've gotten my bag and the baby's bag all  ready for the hospital. These are now stored in the boot of my car.  Brendon is spending more and more time awake, and he is able to respond to simple requests like squeeze my hand. Do you want a drink? etc.  He has become more agitated and is experiencing problems with his short-term memory. Apparently, this is called Post Traumatic Amnesia. We don't know if this is temporary or not. Brendon has also become very clingy and gets upset if I am not with him. Which is so not like him at all.

**Brendon's POV**

Why am I still in here? Where is Carlyn? I need to get home. Why won't anyone tell me what's happening?

"Morning, Brendon," Dr. Merrik says as she enters my room. "How are you feeling this morning? do you have any concerns or questions?"
"No, I don't think so."
"Good,I have a couple.  Do you know where you are?"
"I am in hospital. Where is my wife?
"That's correct, She is on her way here. Do you know what day it is?"
"Wednesday?"
"Not too bad. It's Thursday finally do you remember my name?"
"Dr. Merry?"
"Close enough, it's Merrik? Brendon, you are making good progress. Your leg and collar bone are both healing nicely. Thankfully, your leg wasn't as bad as we initially thought. Your collar bone should be healed completely in another 2 weeks. Once this has healed, there is no reason why you can't get around using crutches. We will arrange some physical therapy for this and assist with the post-traumatic amnesia. This should also improve over the next few months. Do you have any questions for me?
"Yes. Where's my wife? Why isn't she here? She should be here!"
"Brendon, she is on her way in. She can't stay anymore. Now that you're improving, relatives are no longer allowed to stay overnight unless they are here with a child. She's 34 weeks pregnant, and she needs to get as much rest at night as she can before the baby arrives and you go home. Technically, the baby could come at any time, but hopefully, it will wait another few weeks. I will come back later this afternoon to see how you are. "

**Carlyn's POV**

Dr. Merrik is just coming out of Brendons room when I arrive.
"Hey Doc, how is he doing this morning?
"He's slightly agitated that you weren't here and upset that you are not allowed to stay overnight anymore. I did explain the situation to him.
"I told him last night why I couldn't stay."
"I know you did. This is all part of the post-traumatic amnesia. As time progresses, he will retain the information for longer. I know it is repetitive and that it can be frustrating for you both. but you just need to be patient. Go and see him. He's impatiently waiting for you."
"Morning, Babe," I say, entering his room, "How are you feeling?" I ask, giving him a kiss.
"Better now that you are here. Where were you? What took you so long?"
"Remember now you're getting better. I have to sleep at home, Bren.and traffic was a bit of a nightmare this morning."
"I don't like it here. I want to go home, when can I come home?"
"Aww, Bren, hopefully soon. I really miss you. Our bed is not the same without you
I miss you cuddling into me and caressing my bump."
"How are you both doing? I can't believe they will soon be here, and we will be Parent's"
"I know! Me either. I will be glad when they arrive, though. My back is killing me, I look like the back end of a bus and will be glad to get the baby off my bladder. Apart from that all is good. Listen, Pete and Josh are coming in to see you today. Are you OK with that? I can always tell them to come another day. "
"No, I want to see them. I want to thank them for everything they've done and for looking after you during all this. "

**Pete & Josh's POV**

"Hey man, it's great to see you awake. How are you feeling?" Pete asks, plonkng himself onto my bed.
"I've been better. Hopefully, I will be home soon.
"That's great news dude".
"Listen, I want to thank you both for everything you have done for us both over the last few weeks. I really appreciate it. I'm glad Carlyn had you all to support her. "
"Brendon. We are all family. Families. Look out for each other. It's nothing you wouldn't have done if it had been one of us in your position. "
"I know, but I just wanted to say thanks."

I look at Carlyn and can see she looks uncomfortable. "Carlyn, are you ok?"
"I'm fine, Pete, just some Braxton Hicks."
"Wtf are those? Brendon and Josh ask at the same time. "They're kinda like practice contractions. Like your body preparing itself for birth. "Don't worry," I laugh. "I'm not actually going into labour,"
"At least you're in the right place if you do," laughs Pete.
