Warning: Ya'll are gonna be raging...
"Get her outta here before I bark at her."
While I was sitting on the counter, reading a magazine, I heard the bell ring. The door opened and some plastic looking blonde walked in. I already hated her. She just...brought down the room I guess. I had a bad feeling in my gut and my gut never lies to me.
I was the only one at the counter because Steve needed help from Soda with fixing a car, so I was supposed to make sure they didn't get robbed. Ponyboy was relaxing in the break room. Yeah, leave it to the shy, emotionally unstable, sixteen year old girl to defend the store against robbers. Good idea.
The girl grabbed a granola bar, specifically one of the low calorie ones and a diet Pepsi. That's honestly nasty. She walked up to the counter and placed them down.
"Sorry, I don't work here, the dude who's supposed to work here is out helping with a car." I explained quickly, hoping she wouldn't ask any more questions.
"I don't care, I'm in a rush." She gave me a snobbish look. Don't look at me like I'm less, especially since you are obviously a Greaser too.
"What do ya want me to do?" I asked.
"Ring it up." She said. I decided to be polite.
"Sorry, I don't know how this stuff works." I said. She rolled her eyes and growled at me. She's a fucking dog! I was fighting the urge to bark at her to see if she understood what I said.
Just then, Soda walked back into the store and went behind the counter. He noticed how annoyed I looked.
"Get her outta here before I bark at her." I whispered in his ear, causing him to hold in a laugh. He cocked an eyebrow at me. I only shrugged.
"49 cents please." He chuckled a little.
The girl paid him then looked at him, basically just staring. I don't like the looks of this one bit. She changed her whole act up and acted like such a sweetie.
"Hello, Sodapop." She said kindly. I cocked an eyebrow at her. What happened to needing to get out of here?
"Hi, Sandy." Soda said. Wait, they know each other? Who the hell is this girl? Whatever is happening, I need to break it up. I don't care who she is.
"Soda, can ya get me another magazine?" I asked and he nodded, walking into the break room. The girl looked at me, opened her soda and sprayed it all over me.
I quickly got up and ran into the bathroom. Soda was coming out of the break room at the same time, but he didn't notice the Pepsi all over me.
"Elle, wait!" He shouted after me.
"I don't know why she ran off..." 'Sandy' said to Sodapop.
I was so mad. Why would she do that? I felt so humiliated and I didn't want to come out. So I decided I was going to stay here.
After a while, the two of them stopped talking and I heard footsteps approaching the bathroom. I knew it was Soda.
"Elle, are you okay?" He asked me. I didn't say anything, I sat against the door, hugging my knees to my chest.
"Come on...my shift's over, let's go home..." He said. I sighed. I slowly stood up and opened the door again. I tried my best to get all the Pepsi off me so I wouldn't be sticky, but now I was all wet from the water.
"Let's go." He put his arm around me, "Why are you wet?"
I chuckled. "No reason, let's just go."
He shrugged it off. "Ponyboy, Steve, come on!" Soda yelled, and the two of them joined us.
"Elle?" He asked.
"What?" I asked.
"The girl...her name is Sandy, and she's my girlfriend." Soda said cautiously, but he started to smile a little.
I felt a sudden rage come over me and I don't know why. She sprayed diet Pepsi on me, but I felt like it was something more, and I couldn't put my finger on it.
"Cool." I said.
"Are ya alright?" He asked.
"Yeah, I'm alright." I lied.
"Okay." He proceeded to tell me about Sandy and how incredibly nice and sweet she was. I didn't have the nerves to tell him how bitchy she was to me, so I kept quiet. Maybe we'll get along soon, who knows?
I was zoning out while he was telling me, so I barely heard what he said. Then my mind started to drift a bit until I was thinking about my mom again. I was going home, but I wasn't going to see her eating dinner with us. I wonder if she made it to Chicago yet. I felt tears sting my eyes again.
"Hey, Elle?" I snapped out of my thoughts and I saw Soda give me a concerned look. "You okay?"
"Yeah." I looked away from him so he wouldn't see my face, but he knows me too well by now. He turned my head towards him.
"Elle, you're cryin'..." He whispered, trying not to let the other two hear.
"Am not." I chuckled trying to cheer myself up, but it didn't work.
"Hey guys, we're gonna go to the park, see ya'll later." Soda said. "Don't beat each other up." He was serious about that too. Those two would not get along. Steve would be picking on Ponyboy the whole way back.
The two of them walked away and Soda and I walked to the park. I was still trying to hold in my tears. I've been crying too much, I can't cry more.
"Please talk to me..." Soda said, placing his hand on my shoulder.
"I miss her..." My voice broke, but I didn't let tears fall down my face. I need to hold it in. He pulled me in for a hug.
"Elle..." Soda hugged me tight. I didn't want someone always having to be here when I'm upset. I don't want to cry in front of anybody anymore. I don't want to cry period. I just can't help it.
"Let's just go...ya'know how I feel about bein' out here at this time." I looked around cautiously. It was evening, so Socs would be out to attack more Greasers and get drunk. He looked at me, unsure, but then he nodded.
