"No problem, now show Sodapop Patrick Curtis what he's getting himself into."

School is finally over for the year, thank god. I was able to avoid ever having to give the letter to Mrs. Curtis. I don't know how I managed, but I did.

I waited anxiously for the bell to ring. All the eyes watching the last few minutes tick by. Teachers talking about what next year was going to be like.

Of course nobody was paying attention.

Soda is supposed to take me out on our first date after his shift at the DX. With me being stressed out with school. He understood why I wanted to wait until the end of the school year to go on a date.

Time passed by slowly, but the bell rang and everyone jumped out. Last time leaving this school until Junior year. If I even decide to go. I'm probably just going to drop out.

But let's not think about that right now.

I'm about to go on a date with my best friend, who's now my boyfriend I guess? I don't know, we didn't really have titles for whatever this is. I guess dating was our status, but I don't have any other clue.

I ran ahead of everybody else, desperate to get home and get ready.

It'll take me hours to even look decent.

When I got home, I went to my bedroom, threw my backpack on the ground, and plopped down on my bed, thinking.

Most girls get to get ready for their first date with their mom, but I can't. How am I going to do this alone?

I barely know how to apply makeup, I can do the bare minimum. I don't have any dresses. All of my clothes are just dingy, old, and normal.

I started crying because I didn't know what to do. I can't do this without my mom and I'm going to disappoint Soda. I'll be not better to him than Sandy. At least she looked pretty, knew how to do makeup, and knew how to choose the perfect outfits. I don't have any of that. Why would Soda like me? I'm not attractive in the slightest.

There was a knock on the door, but I didn't answer. I was too busy drowning in my misery. Just let me cry, whoever it is.

"Elle, come on, school's over, what's wrong?" Two-bit asked.

"Just leave me alone." I said, half-sobbing.

"I'm afraid I can't do that." He said, opening the door. I groaned.

He knelt down beside my bed and rubbed my back while I cried.

"What's wrong?" He asked.

"I have my first date with Soda tonight." I said.

"Well what's so bad about that?" He asked, clearly not understanding.

"I have nothing to wear, I can't do this without my mom helping. I'll just look like another girl. I'm not going to look nearly as good as Sandy did." I said, feeling awful.

"Don't compare yourself to that bitch, you are so much better. Just remember this. Soda likes you for you, so how 'bout ya show up as you, not as someone else, alright kid?" He asked me. I nodded, tears stained on my face.

"Now get outta bed and wash your face. Choose your favorite outfit. If he doesn't like it, I'm sure Darry'll beat some sense into his little bro. If he doesn't, I will." Two said.

"Thanks Two." I smiled slightly.

"No problem, now show Sodapop Patrick Curtis what he's getting himself into." He joked. I playfully smacked his arm.

He left the room chuckling to himself. I walked over to my closet and went through all my clothes to find my favorites. I found a blue and black flannel with a black t-shirt. I got some nice black dress pants that weren't too heavy since it was pretty hot. Now I need to do something with my hair.

I was in the bathroom, door open, just staring at the mirror, trying to figure out what to do with it.

I saw a reflection of Mrs. Curtis walk in, but I just kept staring at the mirror. She began using her finger to brush any tangles out.

"You know, I never see you with your hair down anymore." She said. My hair has definitely grown from last time I kept it down. It was past my shoulders, around halfway  between my shoulder and my elbow. I kinda liked it like this.

"I know." I said plainly.

"How 'bout you keep it down, it looks great, you just gotta brush through it." She said.

"Yeah." I said. She grabbed a brush and began to brush out all tangles. She then fixed up my side bangs, which were a little longer than I thought. Although, my hair looked good, and I liked it.

"You look so pretty, I don't think I've seen you look this happy for a long time." She said. I smiled. It was a real genuine smile.

"Now, Sodapop should be home soon, I think Steve was helping him out." Mrs. Curtis said.

"He doesn't even have access to his stuff." I said.

"He left with his stuff when he went to work. He wanted to surprise you." She explained.

"Alright." I said.

I left the bathroom and put on some black boots that went up to my ankles. They were on the nicer, newer side. They've barely been touched, but they were so pretty and comfortable. I think I'm ready.

I don't have to worry about makeup. If Two-bit is right, Soda will like seeing the real me. He won't care if his date looks like a hot mess. I guess that's reassuring.

There was a knock on the door.

Nobody else was in the room so I went to answer. Who was knocking on the door? I opened it and found Sodapop.
