"I did something."

I had the grocery bag in my hand from the trunk. The puppy suddenly jumped into my arms and I caught her. There's no collar or anything, but it didn't look like a stray. Too clean and too well fed.

"Hey puppy." I said. "Where'd you come from?"

I decided to carry the dog inside. I'm pretty sure this dog just adopted itself.

"Guys there was one more grocery than we thought." I said, walking into the house with the dog.

"Oh my god, it's so cute." Two-bit yelled happily, running over to me and the dog. Mrs. Curtis walked out of the kitchen with Soda.

"Why hello there, buddy." Soda said petting the puppy on the head.

"I found it in the car looking for food I think. It doesn't look like a stray, but it doesn't have a collar." I explained.

"Let's take it to the shelter in case anybody is looking for it." Mrs. Curtis said. I nodded, but I was already attached to it. I know this dog has been in my life for like five seconds, but still.

"We'll go take it." Soda said, "you just got home, mom." He said. She nodded.

I carried the cutie out to the car and into the passenger seat with me. I think it fell asleep in my arms. Soda chuckled.

"I want it." I said.

"I can tell." He responded.

We got it to the shelter and it seems like no owner is looking for it.

Apparently, it's a she and her name is Cassie and she's been one of the only dogs in the shelter since she came. She's a Pit-Bull terrier which is why nobody wants her. She had run away a few days ago and nobody could find her.

I felt bad leaving here, especially after hearing she might never get a home. Poor thing.

When Soda and I went back into the car, I spoke up.

"I can't bare the thought of leaving her, she's not gonna get a home." I said. It frustrated me a little bit.

"I know, poor pup." He said.

He started the ignition, making me remember my mom. I know my mom would never leave this dog.

"I can't do this." I unbuckled and jumped out of the car.

"What the-Elle, come back!" But I was too far. I ran back inside.

"How hard would it be to adopt the dog?" I asked the guy I was talking to earlier.

"Nobody wants this dog, it's gonna get put down." He said.

"No, don't! Can I take her?" I asked. "I'll do any damn paperwork I need to."

"Don't bother." He still had the dog on a leash and he handed it to me. "You're gonna give her back by the end of the day anyways." He shrugged, walking away. I picked her up.

"Hey Cassie." I said. "I won't leave you." I held her close to my body, taking her back out the the car.

"Mom's gonna kill ya." He said.

"She'll warm up to her." I shrugged. "She's so beautiful." I said.

"She is." Soda smiled petting her. He began to drive us back home.

I hugged Cassie to my chest and she licked my face. I giggled.

We got back home and I carried Cassie in, hugging her and smiling. I was hoping it would make me look innocent.

Soda opened the door and I walked in.

"I did something." I announced to the house as soon as we walked in. Mrs. Curtis walked in.

"Elle, why do you still have the dog?" She asked me.

"Because they were going to put her down. Nobody was going to take her." I said sadly.

Mrs. Curtis sighed.

"I'm not going to be the one taking care of her, that's all you." She said.

"Yeah, yeah I'll do that, I'll take care of her." I said. I can't believe that worked.

"I'll take really good care of you." I said to Cassie, even though I knew she wouldn't understand me.

"Well that worked." Soda said.

"I can't believe it." I said smiling, putting down Cassie to let her roam.

"I need to buy her stuff." I said. "Like food, a bed, all that." I said.

"Want me to take you?" Soda asked me.

"I should be fine." I said, walking towards the door. It was sunset, so I didn't feel safe going alone.

"Actually, yeah." I said, taking a deep breath. I hate going out at this time. He nodded.

"Sorry for making you leave so much." I said.

"Don't worry about it. What are boyfriends for?"

Not for having to protect their paranoid girlfriend from something that won't happen.

I just smiled at him. "Let's go then."
