Chapter 17

(Demi's pov)

"Babe." I whispered to Joe in bed. I turned over and looked at me. I think he was getting a little irritated because we had just got both girls to sleep. "Yeah?" he asked.

"I think Nick and Selena are hiding something from us." I told him. "Why do you think that?" he asked. "Because they're getting married next month. That's really soon. Almost like she's pregnant or something." I said.

Joe shrugged. "Who cares? If she is, they'll tell us when they're ready." he said. "I know but-"

"Goodnight Demi." Joe said interrupting me and kissing my forehead. Wow. He didn't even care. He just rolled back over and went to bed.

(Joe's pov)

The next day, the girls send us on an errand to get fitted for tuxes. AND, we had to take Haven while they took Brooklyn.

"So," I stared at nick holding Haven as the tailor started measuring me. "June huh? That's a month away." I told him trying to give him hints.

He obviously didn't get it because he just shrugged. "Yeah so," he said brushing it off.

I decided to approach this another way. "So you're really good with babies. Any particular reason?" I asked him.

He sighed. "Well Joseph, this is my second niece that you've produced so I think I know just a little about babies. And if you have anything particular to ask me. Do it." he said.

"Is Selena pregnant?" I asked. Nick got silent and I immediately regretted asking. Maybe she was just gaining weight. Maybe they're just so in love and couldn't wait to start their life together. But I mean, what's the rush? a whole month?

"No Joe." nick said. "She's not." he said looking down. He started to get choked up as he put Haven in the stroller and walked out.

I bet she just hasn't told him yet.

(Nick's pov)

"Sel, I can't keep lying to my family. When are you going to tell people?" I asked her as she sat on my lap. "It's to the point that Demi and Joe think you're pregnant." I informed her.

This made her laugh. Although, I don't see how she could laugh. "Selena, how can you laugh at a time like this?" I asked her.

She stopped. "Nick, I'll tell them when I'm ready. And why not laugh? I always laugh." she said.

"If I were you, I'd be.. angry." I told her. "in fact, I am angry. Not at you, but at life. You have every reason in the world to be angry Selena. You know that right?" I told her.

"Nick, I'm not angry. A little scared, maybe. irritated? maybe. the timing is so shitty. But this cancer won't destroy who I am." Selena told me.

I pulled her close and held her tight. "Selena, I never want to lose you. I'm so afraid of that." I told her. She cupped my face and lifted my head up. "Nick, I'm going to fight this cancer. I promise you. I'll do anything and everything I can to make sure I'm still around for you. Okay?" she said.

I knew she was just saying it to make me feel better but I nodded at her. She kissed my lips softly and whispered "I love you Nicholas" sweetly. God, she's the most amazing woman on the face of this earth.
