Joe
The next couple months were hard to get into a routine. I was working hard, the girls were working hard. It all seemed like our dreams were coming true. Finally it was Brooke and Haven's big dance recital and I was attending. I loved going to see my girls dance. They were so beautiful and gracious. They worked hard, especially brooklyn. Nadean put a lot of pressure on her to be perfect. Demi and I both noticed that.
Demi
"Please Brooke. Do good for Nadean alright? Show daddy and I that you want to continue this so I can decide whether or not we sign you up for next season okay?" I said giving Brooke a pep talk.
This was a very popular event here in Dallas and the governor of Texas was attending so everyone had a lot of pressure on them. Especially Brooke, who seemed to be Nadean's favorite.
I took my seat next to Joe and he wrapped his arm around me. We heard Brooke's solo music start and she came out on stage. She started her routine which I'd seen her do plenty of times.
Joe
All seemed to be going well with the dance when suddenly, Brooke froze. It seemed as if she'd forgotten her dance, which is unusual of her because she always executes her routines perfect.
She ran off the stage in embarrassment. "I'll be right back" Demi said getting up. I nodded and watched for Haven who was coming out next.
Demi
"How could you be so stupid?!" Nadean yelled at Brooke. I held her in my arms as she cried and cried and apologized. "Hey now, she's only a kid- It-" Nadean interrupted me. "NO DEMI, SHES NOT A KID TONIGHT. TONIGHT SHES MY DANCER!" she threw her papers off the table and left her studio.
"Mommy I'm sorry." Brooke apologized. "It's not your fault baby." I told her.
Joe
That night I walked into Haven's room and kissed her goodnight. "You did wonderful sweetie." I said. "Thank you daddy goodnight." she said. I kissed her forehead and shut the door when I walked out.
"Where's Brooke?" I asked Demi. She pointed to the bathroom door. "She's been in the shower for 2 hours now. I'm getting worried about her." Demi told me. I nodded and kissed Demi's forehead. "You should've heard Nadean yell at her. I'll never put her through this again." Demi told me. I nodded. "I understand."
I looked down and noticed water seeping out out the bathroom door. "I'll be right back im getting towels." I told Demi going downstairs to get the carpet cleaner.
I had opened the supply cabinet when I heard Demi scream. "AHH!" I dropped everything and ran upstairs to see what happened.
Demi
I opened the door and saw the most horrible sight in the entire world. Red, bloody water filled my bathroom and my little girl. My princess lay face down in the bathtub with blood coming out of her wrist. Pale and lifeless.
I gently pulled her out soaking my short, formal cocktail dress in blood. "brooklyn." I said with tears in my eyes. Joe walked in. It looked like a murder scene. "Oh god no." he said running for the telephone.
I cradled my daughter's body in my arms and sobbed into her hair. I hated myself for doing this to her. Dance had destroyed my family...
