"Can I kiss you?"The air between us seemed to crackle with tension, the anticipation palpable as Kade's question hung in the air. My heart pounded in my chest, a mix of emotions churning within me. I could feel myself leaning in, my body responding to the pull of his presence. It was as if the world around us had faded away, leaving just the two of us in this suspended moment.
But just when our lips were about to brush, a sudden vibration coming from my pocket shattered the electric atmosphere like a fragile glass.
We both jumped back, startled by the interruption. Who could be calling at such an inconvenient time?
Talk about bad timing.
With an apologetic glance at Kade, sinagot ko na ang tawag at inilapit sa tenga ko ang cellphone ko. "HOY, HIRO!"
I winced and quickly moved the phone away from my ear. I checked on Kade and noticed that he had respectfully averted his gaze, giving me some privacy.
[HA?! SHUTA KA, HIRO. HUWAG MO 'KO LALONG INISIN, OKAY? GET YOUR ASS MOVING!] Avery's voice boomed from the other end. [I sacrificed my beauty rest for this, okay? So, if you don't get your ass on your way here, tataguan na kita at hinding-hindi ko na babayaran utang ko sa 'yo! Bahala ka!]
"Meh, I don't believe you.
Mint choco frappe sa 'yo, right?]
"Oo, sige.
I turned back to Kade, who was watching me with a mix of emotions that I couldn't quite decipher. "I'm sorry, Kade," I apologized once again, feeling regret gnawing at me. "Pwedeng umuwi ka na muna sa ngayon?"
Kade nodded, though a hint of disappointment lingered in his eyes. "It's alright, Kuya Hiro. Don't worry about it. Thanks for accepting the medicine."
"B-Bye," I said as I waved my hand. He just smiled at me and went on his way.
We were so close to kissing, again.
I couldn't deny that a part of me had yearned for that kiss to happen. Yet, it was perhaps for the best that it didn't, as I found myself questioning what might have transpired between us had it occurred.
Maybe we'd still be locked in a passionate embrace, lips molded together in a fiery exchange.
Or perhaps, we'd be further inside my unit, our bodies entwined as we succumbed to the heat of the moment.
I aggressively ruffled my hair when thought came to mind.
I've already made up my mind not to get involved further with Kade's potential romantic feelings for me with the reason of my extreme guiltness towards him, his brother, and his family.
