Fast forward to the next morning and Chaewon's got an extra pep in her step because today is promotion day.

She's already imagining what her furniture will look like in her new office. She even has a "thank you" speech prepared in her head.

Is Chaewon being presumptuous?

Probably.

But every living soul in the office knows that Chaewon is overqualified for this promotion-especially when compared to newcomer Logan who doesn't know a tax bracket from a March Madness bracket.

It would be the robbery of the century if Chaewon doesn't get it. It would be like revoking Titanic (1997) of its Academy Award for Best Picture and gifting it to the god-awful furry monstrosity that is the Cats (2019) movie musical.

She's going to get it.

She's destined for it.

When people hear the name "Kim Chaewon," they will automatically attach "senior financial consultant" to the end of it because they just go together.

She has to get it or else what was this all for?

What kind of twisted lesson does the universe have to teach her now?

Chaewon's boss summons the whole staff to the conference room at lunchtime. A custom six footlong Subway sandwich awaits hungry workers. Equal portions of apple cider have been prepoured into paper Dixie cups. Chaewon's boss picks one up and raises a toast to their new senior financial consultant.

Hands are shaken, plans are made, the congratulations come flooding in.

This is everything Chaewon ever dreamed of... in her nightmares.

She takes one last look at this place, remembers all the stress and sorrow it brought her, sets her cup down, wishes Logan the best of luck, and she does as Yunjin would do.

Chaewon leaves and never looks back.
