"Tell me how. How can it possibly be that on the first day and right after the first period there is already such a...mess?! It is nine o'clock for gods sake?!"
The director looked at them with complete disbelief. Her eyebrows knitted together.
Aresu's knee bumped up and down while her eyes remained focused on the dirty floor.
The caretaker did a decent job... the floor seemed well polished, except for the space behind the desk-leg. The caretaker must've forgotten it, or was too lazy to pull—
"This is not a Highschool! Keep your problems at home! Who started the fight?"
"I did," Rafe said. Aresu flinched.
Rafe was right.
The cold ice she held onto her cheek seemed to radiate with heat.
He indeed started to fight.
Violence is never the answer...bla bla bla... talking can save all situations... ***~~~ bla bla bla... Star Star Star... help help help—
All those ridiculous anti-violence and mobbing speeches echoed through her brain.
And oh god her head hurt. Was she bleeding? Maybe...
She raised her left hand and touched the back of her head.
Jup...she was bleeding. God-damn concrete floor.
"Why?" The director asked and watched them with sharp eyes.
"Actually—what was the question?" Rafe asked and massaged his hurt jaw. He must've paid as much attention as Grisu. Purple dots appeared all over his left side.
JJ looked worse, though. His hair was a mess, his forehead bruised and his arms covered in scratches. And very prominent was his now black eye.
"I asked you why you started the argument?" The director repeated, patience slowly fading away.
"I did start the fight, not the argument," he shrugged and leaned back casually.
Aresu cringed.
"I kissed her. It was my fault. We had some serious problems in the holidays and uhm... I wanted to apologize but did something stupid again and yeah. Then her boyfriend attacked me."
"Attacked?!" Rafe said and laughed bitterly.
"So now we're playing the victim, hm? You were the first once to hold onto her until her wrists were bruised!"
Aresu looked down and oh... Rafe was right. Her wrists were covered in red and blue marks. She hadn't even noticed.
"It was a misconception. I just wanted to solve the problem between JJ and me and it kind of... escalated," Aresu said, wanting to make this intervention as short as possible. She felt a headache creeping up.
The principle raised an eyebrow.
"Ms. Kashani. Did you interfere in the fight?"
"I told them to...stop."
Rafe and JJ avoided each other's eyes as much as possible.
"For gods sake. It's so early in the morning, how do you even have the strength for that? Kids will be the end of me."
"We ain't no kids, madam," said JJ and peeled off a small stone from inside one of his cuts.
"That's even worse! All three of you. These problems do not belong here on campus! I don't want to see it again sometime soon and if I do, then you'll have to face serious consequences. You are free to go now. And go let yourselves get checked in the medbay."As they walked through the corridors, Aresu glanced at Rafe.
"Why are you side-eying me?" He asked with a raspy voice and raised his eyebrow playfully.
"I said stop and you kept on fighting," Aresu wasn't mad... in fact she did not know what she felt at all.
"'M sorry, luv. Won't happn' again."
"I hope so. You look pretty rough."
Rafe smiled and pointed at JJ who walked a few steps ahead of them.
"He looks worse, though."
"I don't," JJ mumbled and walked faster.
"Yeah you don't because I went between you before you fucking hit me in the face."
"Rafe hit you before!"
"That does not give you the permission to do it as well! The fuck—"
"I'm truly sorry. I never wanted to hit you. I hope you know that."
Aresu sighed deeply and closed her eyes.
"I know."
She wasn't mad.
She was—conflicted.
When Rafe had come she felt protected. She felt scared. She was utterly confused...
If Rafe had such deep aggression inside of him, could she handle that herself?
What if it was once again directed towards her?
She shook her head in denial. Naah that won't happen again.
Their relationship was great currently.
He just protected her... that was great, wasn't it?
Deciding to push that feeling deep down she grabbed his hand and entered the medbay.
But the feeling still lingered in her gut... and it was constantly a reminder to pay attention and to be cautious...
Something you shouldn't have to think about your boyfriend...
