Alex got to work a bit late. As he expected, his boss wasn't even there yet when he arrived. He didn't get how all the staff in the coffee shop were so unprofessional. He normally wouldn't really care, but his boss was very strict with him while everyone else was literally always showing up an hour late, except Marina and Shawn.

Apart from Caroline, Alex's best friends were Marina and Shawn. He and Marina had been friends for two years, they met when Marina moved into town and started going to the same high-school as him. He met Shawn at work a little over a year ago. Due to Caroline and Marina's rocky history, Alex never got to hang out with Marina since Caroline was always at his house, so he was glad he and Marina worked together.

"Hey, guys." Said Alex.

"Did you sleep in?" Asked Marina, glancing up from her phone.

"Not on purpose!" Said Alex, "I had to stay up late last night, there was...something going on."

"Ooh, had any girls over?" Asked Shawn, jokingly.

"He probably had one over, she's apparently there literally every day." Said Marina, rolling her eyes.

"She has to be and the only reason I'm not telling you why is because it's very personal to her and she wouldn't want you knowing." Muttered Alex.

"Get over it, Marina, it isn't your business." Said Shawn, before Marina could say anything else.

"You asked the question." Said Marina, with a shrug.

"As a joke." He answered.

Alex walked to the back. As he expected, there was no one else there. There were four other employees along with their boss, and not a single one of them could be relied on just to walk in on time.

An hour later, they were getting their first customers. Alex, Marina and Shawn were still the only baristas present.

They were working for three hours before two familiar someone's walked in.

Shit.

Alex somewhat trusted Sarah and Damien, but he knew he shouldn't. At the moment, he did not feel like seeing them. They still really freaked him out.

They acted perfectly normal, as if they had been here many times before and there was nothing different. Alex realized that they probably had been here before, he just hadn't taken note of them before.

He almost thought for a minute that they didn't recognize him, until Sarah winked at him.

He hoped Marina and Shawn didn't notice. He was never very good at lying.

Of course they did. Everyone only ever noticed what he didn't want them to.

"Do you know her?" Asked Marina.

"I don't think so." Answered Alex.

"You don't...think so?"

"I haven't talked to my friends from school since...like, over a year ago. I don't even remember most of their names." This, at least, was true.

Marina shrugged and got back to work, deciding it wasn't her business, but Shawn wasn't that easy. He didn't say anything because they had work to do, but Alex had a feeling that questions would be asked later.

...

We sat side by side, watching the sunset. It was beautiful. It wasn't the first time we'd watched the sunset in his yard, but this time was different. I felt different, I didn't know how to describe it. I guess because I'd never felt the feeling until then...

Things were going like they always did. I thought I was the only one that felt different. Then he put a hand under my chin and turned my head to face him. I wasn't sure what was happening or how to react. I could barely even process it until his lips were on mine.

I couldn't move. I didn't know if I should kiss back or not. I wanted to, but at the same time, all I could think was that my mom was gonna kill me.

I wish I could've enjoyed my first kiss more. I wish I would've put more emotion in. But all I could feel was surprised and scared.

He was so charismatic. He only said the right things. I had never felt love before in my life, but he taught me what it felt like. I thought he was the one...

But, oh, was I wrong.
