Chapter one

Alex still didn't know how he got where he was; in a bed that definitely didn't belong to him in a house he never thought he'd be back in. It was strange, it had all just started out with him visiting his little brother.

In the city where Alex lived, there was a huge mansion that had been for sale for a long time, and, surprisingly, when a couple finally bought it, they announced that they weren't gonna live in it and made it known to the public that it was now for mentally sick people to stay.

Alex had been six years old when the mansion had opened and he originally didn't think much of it, but when he was sixteen, he was relieved it was there.

His little brother and sister had both been expelled from their schools and teachers insisted that Alex bring them  to a mental institution. Apparently, his little siblings had strange visions that always came true, and his brother saw things that weren't there (such as dead or crying people) and he really liked to share it with people.

Alex had not wanted to send his siblings to a mental institution, but it was also clear that they couldn't socialize, they scared and upset people, and they wouldn't listen to Alex when he tried to help them.

Suddenly, he remembered the mansion. He thought about it for a while before deciding that it was the best he could do. He was also able to visit his siblings whenever he wanted.

At first, Alex was just visiting every week, but soon, it was everyday. His siblings needed him and they weren't doing well without him, so he started visiting daily.

Today wasn't different from any other day. Or at least Alex didn't think so. However, he noticed when he was walking through a hallway toward his brothers room that one year ago today was the day that he'd brought his little siblings here.

As he was walking toward his brothers room, the light above him started to flicker. He looked up at it and readjusted the light bulb. As Alex was taking his hand down from the light, someone touched his shoulder. He jumped and quickly looked behind him. He knew that some of the patients here were actually dangerous, and he didn't want to run into them. It was really easy for patients to leave their rooms, a lot of them did just whenever they wanted, and it was unfortunate that it was often the more dangerous ones that roamed around.

But the man Alex saw wasn't a patient. "Oh my god, dude, what the fuck?!" Alex yelled.

"What?" Asked his friend, John, who he hadn't seen in ages.

"You scared the shit out of me! What the hell are you doing here?!"

"I was looking for you and Sarah said I could probably find you here."

"Sarah?" Asked Alex. He didn't know anyone named Sarah.

"Your friend, the girl with long brown hair?"

"There are a lot of people with long brown hair."

"Um, she has green eyes, she's around your height, I think she's mixed?"

"I don't know her." Said Alex. It made him feel weird knowing that some random stranger knew where he would be.

"Oh." Said John, looking confused. "How did she-?"

"I don't know and don't really want to." Alex answered, continuing down the hall toward his brothers room. "So, what did you need me for?" He asked.

"I just wanted to see you, it feels like it's been forever." John replied.

Alex wasn't buying it. "I know that's not true, John. You haven't talked to me for six months, why would you just suddenly come looking for me today?"

"I tried reaching out to you constantly, do you ever check your phone?!"

"I don't have it anymore."

"...What? What if you get into some sort of trouble and can't tell anyone? It's safer to have a phone...especially if you're spending all your time here."

Alex had reached his brothers room.

"Can you wait outside? Anthony doesn't do too well with people."

"Hell no!" Said John, "I'm not waiting in the hall alone in this place! I'll just leave, please get a  phone and call me sometime."

"Okay, whatever. Bye." And with that, the two parted ways as Alex entered Anthony's room.
