~TW~! Sexist behavior, mentioning of passing out, mentioning of addiction, implied r*pe
Alex paced his room all night. He didn't know who the fuck had been watching through his window earlier, but it terrified him. Caroline was off buying him a phone, so he was completely alone. He only just then realised he'd been so stressed that he'd forgotten to check up on Anthony and Amy.
Someone knocked on his door. He hoped it was Caroline. He checked the window and quickly saw he was wrong. His cousin was here.
He sighed and opened the door a bit.
"Sammy, now is really not the time." Said Alex.
"Why not?" Asked Sammy.
"I'm on edge right now and you're just gonna stress me out more."
"No I won't, I just wanted to swing by and see if I could stay the night."
"Why? You have so many people you can ask, why me? And why did you not at least tell me earlier that you needed somewhere to stay?"
"Because I knew you'd say no." Said Sammy, simply pushing past Alex and entering the house.
Instantly making himself at home, Sammy sat on the couch and pulled out his phone to scroll through Instagram.
Alex sighed and sat beside him on the couch.
"So why do you need somewhere to stay? I thought you had a new apartment." Said Alex.
"I got kicked out because of the noise complaints and stuff. Apparently, you're not allowed to blast music at three AM."
"You're not blasting music or inviting women over while you're here." Said Alex, firmly. "My mom could come home at any time."
"When was she last home?" Asked Sammy.
"Roughly a week ago." Said Alex.
Sammy started laughing. Alex glanced at the floor. He knew this wasn't unusual for his mom; ever since his dad left, his mom had been a bit...distant. She got addicted to a few things, and in no time, she started vanishing for months at a time before coming back to see how things were going.
His mom had made it more than clear that she didn't care anymore. Without her husband, she was nothing.
"Well, what's been happening since Joanne left?" Asked Sammy.
"She didn't leave, she'll be back, but I've been working and visiting Amy and Anthony a lot and that's basically it." Said Alex, shrugging.
"So, how are the little freak shows?" Asked Sammy.
"Amy misses you, she really wants you to visit her." Answered Alex.
"Hm, let her know I said hi." Said Sammy, shrugging. "But have you been doing anything other than visiting them and working?"
"Not much." Said Alex.
"Still not got a phone?" Asked Sammy.
"Nope." Said Alex.
"What about a car?" Asked Sammy.
"I don't have much of anything. The house and a few friends, that's it."
"Not even a girlfriend." Said Sammy, shaking his head.
"I don't want one, but either way you're in no place to point fingers 'cause you don't exactly have a girlfriend either."
Sammy laughed a bit. "I guess that's true, but I gotta keep my options open, you know?"
"No, I don't." Said Alex, sick of Sammy treating women like emotionless objects.
