I wake up when I don't feel Kelani beside me. My eyes stretch open, it's still dark, she shouldn't be out of bed right now. I quickly sit up on the bed and glance around the room before going into the connecting bathroom, she's not there either.
I let out a shaky breath before walking leaving the room, as soon as I open the door I can hear voices. Not one, but multiple. I furrow my brows, still feeling as though I'm half asleep as I make my way down the stairs.
I rub my eyes and head Kelanis voice. Thank god. I ask her a question that Im not even sure makes sense. When I open my eyes I see Tommy and Finn by the door and another two by Kelani.
My eyes widen and I feel like my vision could be betraying me since I'm half asleep. I rub my eyes once more and open them wide to be sure I'm looking at what I think it is.
Ace stands beside Kelani, his arm around her shoulder and Cherrie beside him. My heart halts.
I blink in blissful surprise as my soul brother looks at me with a smile as though he isn't obviously in pain from injuries I assume he sustained from the explosion. Cherrie doesn't look as bad as him. I just momentarily stare, feeling everything slow and my eyes burn, unsure if it's because I haven't blinked since I opened my eyes or because there's tears forming at my waterline. It could be both.
"We haven't been gone that long dumbass" Ace laughs lightheartedly, but I can't help but feel like crying when I hear his voice. I just let out a disbelieving half chuckle and walk to him, feeling a few weights lift off my chest as I hug my bestfriend again, feeling unexplainable relief. Ace hugs me back, not without wincing and chuckling through the pain.
When I see little Cherrie looking smaller than usual, I sigh through a fallen tear and she waves innocently before I turn to her and pull her in for a hug too, crying in her shoulder. She's practically my sister, just as much as I consider Ace my brother. I have to slouch more to hug Cherrie, she's next to five foot nothing, though she'd argue and say she's five foot two. I'm over a a whole foot taller than her so I almost pick her up off her feet when I straighten my posture a little.
"You're a titan and you're crying in my midget arms. This says a lot. I don't know what but it says something" Cherrie says on my shoulder, patting my back while I crack a tearful laugh.
I pull back, feeling my cheeks wet as I look to both my bestfriends and fail to small "we thought you were dead."
Cherrie says that they would've definitely died if they were closer to the house, so I guess they were on their way out. They must've got thrown by the shockwave.
Now I'm just hugging my bestfriends and my girlfriends, hoping that nothing else can turn to shit after this. Hoping that things will continue to go right instead of even worse.
All while I thank god that two people I love so dearly are alive, my family and loved ones are safe together and that's what I focus on the most right now.
