My body is warm and feels well rested as I open my eyes slowly, expecting to see Mateo. My eyes blink slow and I realise I'm in bed alone. I'm suddenly wide awake and inhale sharply as I sit up quick. I look to the digital clock on my bedside table. 1:47pm. I overslept

The blanket is thrown half off the bed and I'm already out of the room and on my way down the stairs as I put on a random hoodie from the dresser. I hear voices in the living room, as I reach the bottom step.

"Does she know?... does Isabella?" I hear Ace's voice.

"No. There's no point in telling them from now." Gabriel responds, I step around the wall carefully to see all the men sitting in the living room. "Are you sure about this, sir? Boss?" Tommy inserts, looking to Mateo then Gabriel.

"It's fine. It's already done." I hear Mateo say, and I see his dad beside him, patting his shoulder "we both agreed on this. We're sure." Gabriel confirms.

Somehow I'm frozen, hesitant to step out from behind the wall and reveal myself. Confusion wanders around my mind and I'm not sure as to what they're talking about. But something tells me it has to do with wherever Mateo was last night. But I find myself asking, what does Gabriel have to do with it?

Miguel let's out a sigh and a groan, he wipes his face and gets off the couch, he looks to his nephew and then his brother. He doesn't say anything but he looks somewhere between angry and... sad?

He finally scoffs and shakes his head "this is bullshit" his tone is of disbelief and he's walking toward the stairs where I am. His eyes catch me, and he freezes in his tracks.

Ace notices and he looks to Mateo, who's back faces me, before giving him a look and nodding his head toward me. Mateo looks behind the couch, his serious gaze softens when he sees me and he gets to his feet, so does Gabriel.

"Goodmorning, Hermosa" Mateo says softly, weakly, and in a way that doesn't make me feel comforted the way he usually makes me feel. Something is wrong.

"What's going on?" I ask, approaching Miguel who's almost a whole foot taller than me, his eyes drop to mine, he looks away. I frown and look to the others in the living room.

Mateo and Gabriel share a short look, Miguel clears his throat and shakes his head once before walking past me and toward the back door. He walks out into the backyard with a drag in his step and slams the door behind him.

I frown and look back to Mateo, making my way to the sitting area. "Is he okay?" I ask, Gabriel gives a kind smile and steps toward me, overtaking his son, "he's okay, pequena."

"Okay... so what's going on?" I ask Gabriel, he doesn't respond, he just looks over to his son beside him.

Mateos eye is still swollen, and the obvious bruises on his jaw and left cheek are still dark. He tries to not show he's in pain as he steps toward me, but I know him too well by now. His ribs are hurting and I could see him trying not to wince as he takes a deep breath.
