CHAPTER 5 THE HIGH ALPHA KING'S MEMORIES

KING DAVID'S POV

I have suspected for most of this young pup's life that he was Maria's mate and now I know I was right. He is my son's godson. In my heart I knew that God would put my daughter's bloodline mates close to me. How else were they to be trained? Until Michael came along though I have never really known who was fated to be a true mate to the female royal line but there were just too many signs with him. Its like God didn't want us to miss this one and yet we still almost missed him because of freewill. Now that I know for sure and I know that there will be a lot of consequences since he did not find her before she married I have to make sure that he is ready when the time comes.

I remember hearing Michael tell Bill when he was 7 that he had seen his mate in a vision. At first I just passed it off as a little boy and his dreams. Most gifts do not manifest until after the first shift, however, in special wolves they will show up early, but 7. I am a royal, the High Alpha King and I didn't receive my gifts nor did I change until I was 9. From that day on I would come up on Michael with either Bill or Rae and hear him talking about his visions. Many had to do with him running with his mate and 8 others. I really didn't pay attention to them until a couple of years later when I walked out on the balcony over the training field and I saw a large solid black pup training with my grandchildren. I knew then that the only non-royals allowed to train at the palace were the godchildren of mine or my sons.

Our godchildren were all sub-royals and children of strong alphas usually territorial kings. These were the pups who would help rule our world so they needed some of the same training as the royal pups did. I looked at the register to see who the new pups were as that was the first day of the new training classes. There in the midst of a few 10 year olds and many 11 and 12 year olds was one 9 year old, Michael. I knew instantly that the large black wolf was Michael even though I was not close enough to see his eyes. I knew that Bill was his godfather and therefore would be in charge of his training, but I also knew that I would need to keep a close eye on him. I heard him ask many questions about the royal wolves. I knew he wasn't finding what he wanted but until he asked the right question neither Bill nor I could give him the answer he sought.

Two years later I noticed another special wolf, this was a she-wolf and very few of these came to the palace for training. I was the only royal to ever have a daughter, therefore I knew that this she-wolf was a sub-royal. Princess Rae saw me staring at the beautiful she-wolf. Her coat was mostly white. She had just enough black in her coat to denote that she was a sub-royal instead of a royal. Without even asking Princess Rae told me it was Mary, Michael's younger sister and that she was 10 and had just shifted. Rae asked me if I had noted her eyes yet. I remembered Bill telling me something when she was born about her eyes but for the life of me I couldn't remember what. Then Rae told me she has already manifested two strong gifts. The gift of knowing true mates, which was denoted by her special eyes and one of phenomenal administration and organization. I recalled her father telling me that as a young child she was playing in his office and he left her there only to come back and find his office clean and organized. Later he told me she started helping him with scheduling training, protections rounds, pack meetings.

Both Michael and Mary were then asked to stay at the palace. They both were moved into the royal wing used for immediate family only. They were given rooms with Bill and Rae since they were their godchildren. They spent as much time with the royal family as they did with there own parents. Ethan and Dottie knew that these two of their children had special gifts and needed the training found only at the palace. Mary was recruited into the Secret Royal Guard almost immediate because she was the same age as Maria. I made sure that she and Maria met when they were young. After a trip that Bill and Rae made, which Mary went with them, to visit the Alabama pack and check up on my granddaughters and their daughters she told me that only one of my great granddaughters had a wolf mate. She seemed very excited about who it was but because of the restrictions of her gift she could tell no one. Mary and Maria became close friends which just told me I was right in putting her in the Secret Royal Guard connected to Mary. I also noticed that as soon as Michael was able to recognize his mate she started trying to get Michael and Maria together. He was so sure that his mate was a wolf he was always busy looking somewhere else whenever Maria came around. Mary's agitation at his disappearances whenever Maria was around gave me the strong sense of knowing that Michael and Maria were mates.
