-Everleigh Rose-
I knew what I said was messed up. I knew that I wanted Isabella, but my mind couldn't seem to accept that.
Watching her storm out of the cabin shattered my heart. Everything I said was the complete opposite of how I truly felt.
I could never be with her. That'll ruin everything, and I wouldn't risk everything just for a simple crush that would end up as a phase, as other people have said.
The only way to try and push down my feelings for her was to ignore her. I have to keep the same attitude that I had once she first entered the school.
-
Everyone was lined up for the bus. Kayleigh was sitting next to me, while Amelia was sitting next to Isabella. Isabella and I both have aisle seats, making us technically sit side-by-side.
"You won't believe what happened." Kayleigh said as we stepped foot onto the bus.
"Can't wait for the news.", I sarcastically said.
She furrowed her eyebrows and stayed silent until we sat in our seats, putting our bags in the spaces up top.
"You don't sound so happy.", She said as I finally sat down.
"I'm fine."
"Well, I got some feedback from what happened."
My eyes widened, "You what?"
She formed her lips into a thin line and nodded,
"Basically.. referring to what I was supposed to say. Amelia and I hooked up."
"You guys what?!", I whisper-yelled, "That's so random!"
"Meh, not really. We've been eyeing each other since the start of the school year and had small talks; I guess we just told each other everything we needed to say with kisses."
"Gross."
She laughed, "That's ironic."
Of course she knew. Isabella's ass definitely snitched, and I need to tell her to stop soon because word cannot get out.
"You know.", I sighed as I checked out my nail beds.
"I know, and I'm not surprised."
"Not surprised by the fact we did it or?"
"I'm not surprised about how you're currently acting about it.", She tilted her head at me, "Did that lecture I gave you mean nothing? It's obviously supposed to help you in situations like these."
"I know it's just.. God.", I pinched the bridge of my nose, "I can't."
"You can't what?"
I looked to my left to see Isabella talking with Amelia, facing the opposite direction towards me. I looked back at Kayleigh and continued to talk.
"I can't be with her.", I whispered.
"Everleigh, I've told you that just because people can't accept you-"
"I'm people. I can't accept myself, and I won't.", I leaned back into my chair, "It's probably a phase."
"This is anything but a phase.", She responded with a deadpan.
I looked to my left to see Isabella staring at me, instantly looking away once we made eye contact. My face fell as I saw her take out her headphones and open Apple Music, putting the volume all the way up.
"I really did get her upset," I said as I kept my eyes on her, "Didn't I?"
"Sure did. When she explained the story to Amelia and me in the bunk, her eyes started to get glossy."
"Fuck. What am I supposed to do?", I rubbed a hand down my face.
"..is that a joke?", She laughed, "Apologize."
"Trust me, that won't be enough."
"Hey, you know her better than I do."
I sighed and took one last glance at her. She looked so beautiful, and I messed it up. This was not going to get anywhere since I was the problem.
After 10 minutes of pure silence, which felt like hours, we finally landed at school for our guardians to pick us up.
I took my bags out from up top and gave Kayleigh hers as well.
The moment all of us left the bus, I knew Mark was almost here, so I scourged to the blue-eyed brunette in the corner of my eye.
"Hey Everleigh! Are you here to use me again and blow me off?", She sarcastically exclaimed with a fake smile.
"Can I please have a word with you? My driver's almost here."
"No."
"I can explain."
She scoffed as she crossed her arms,
"I know what you're going to do. Apologize, say you're sorry, then ignore me when we're in front of a public audience?! Pass."
I opened my mouth to speak until I heard my driver honk.
"Looks like your ride's here. Make sure to call up Jack in the car, I'm sure he wouldn't mind a hit and run.", She rolled her eyes as she walked away.
I scoffed and went into the car after Mark opened the door for me, today was not a good start.
He went back into his seat and started driving.
"Your parents are back in town.", He said.
"Mhm."
"May you repeat that, ma'am? I thought you were going to be happy."
"Not really", I shrugged as I popped gum into my mouth. "Sometimes, I forget I have parents since they're away so often."
"You know how hard it is to be the CEO's of two extremely successful businesses, one of which is an undercover agent as well."
"Then I should've been aborted. They barely take time out of their day to call me."
Mark nodded,
"Well, I need to run some errands first for your parents. Do you want to get dropped off or stay in the car?"
He was basically asking if I wanted to stay in the car alone or deal with my fake ass mom and dad, and personally, I think the first option is better.
"I'll stay in the car.", I replied.
"Yes Ma'am."
The rest of the car ride was silent. I wasn't looking forward to seeing my mom or my dad. They're always trying to ask me if I have a boyfriend or how my grades are, never if I'm okay.
-
After around an hour of driving from place to place, Mark dropped me off and stayed in the driveway until he made sure I made it into my house safely. My family always made sure to have tough security to keep everyone safe.
I gave my jacket to one of the maids and thanked them before walking into my dining room for lunch.
"My beautiful daughter.", My mom came up to hug me, "Your father and I have missed you so incredibly much."
"Mhm.", I mumbled as I left her hug, sitting at the table.
I noticed that there were two extra plates at the table, which was unusual. We had 6 maids, and none of them ever ate with us.
I wonder what they were for.
"So," My father started, "How are your grades?"
Called it.
"They're fine. Nothing special."
"I hope you're not getting any B's, Everleigh.", My mom said.
I had a B in English, but Lord knows what my mom would do if she found that out.
"Nope.", I formed my lips into a thin line, "Everything's an A plus."
Both of my parents smiled at me in response. My mom looked at her watch and her face brightened.
"The guests are almost here.", She smiled.
I creased my eyebrows as I watched her call the maids to set all the food up. I genuinely thought that my parents were too isolated in work to have friends, but I guess not.
The next thing I know, the doorbell rang.
My mom insisted to open the door instead of one of the servants, which was also pretty weird.
"Good evening darling!", She pulled her in for a hug, but I still couldn't recognize her face. "It's been awhile since we've seen each other. Come in."
I watched as the woman followed my mom to the table. She looked like someone I should know, but I didn't.
My mom looked at me and called me over. Even though I didn't want to go, I wasn't in the mood to argue anymore.
I walked towards my mom and smiled at the guest.
"Have you met my daughter, Rachel?", She puts her hands on my shoulders to present me.
"I believe I haven't. I've only seen you during business trips, so we never got the chance to meet.", Rachel puts her hand out for me to shake it, "I'm Rachel, one of your mom's friends."
I put on a smile as I shook her hand,
"Nice to meet you."
She turned her back around to talk to someone, her facial expressions immediately changing.
She cleared her throat,
"I believe you've met my daughter."
"Who?"
Rachel stepped aside to reveal a girl with long brunette hair who happened to be wearing a square neck bodysuit with grey sweats.
"Of course.", I muttered.
Isabella.
My mom laughed, "You and her daughter met before? Where?"
"At school."
I crossed my arms and walked back to the dining table, my father confused on why I was acting this way.
"What happened, pumpkin?", He asked.
"Nothing, just hungry.", I mumbled.
My mom welcomed the "guests" into the house and seated them at the table. It was my mom and Rachel, my dad, then Isabella and I.
Both of us avoided eye contact as the maids placed the food down.
"Are you two friends?", My mom asked the maids as they placed steak onto our plates.
"No.", Isabella responded before I could, "We're just familiar with each other."
My heart fell when I heard those words. I needed to make it up to her.
My mom nodded and the three adults started talking, leaving Isabella and I in silence.
Right now was the perfect opportunity to speak up.
"I'm sorry for the way I acted earlier.", I said, finally looking at her. "I was immature and I should've communicated better."
She formed her lips into a thin line and nodded,
"I'm glad you apologized, but it's still confusing."
"What is?"
"Everleigh," She whispered as she looked around to see if anyone was watching, "What are we?"
My breath hitched when the question was asked, I even thought about it.
I shrugged my shoulders and looked away,
"I don't know."
"Was it really a one night stand? I thought your words of affirmation meant something."
They did. I meant every single word, but it wasn't easy to accept whatever this is.
"Maybe it did, I'm not sure."
She nodded her head, "So you were playing with my feelings."
"What was there to play if you didn't have feelings?.."
Did she?
"I don't know, Everleigh.", She started to cut her steak, "That's a question for you to answer."
I creased my eyebrows trying to figure out what she meant. Did I make her fall in love with me?
My dad cleared his throat, "So girls, do you two have boyfriends?"
We instantly turned our heads to each other, anxiously waiting for one of us to respond.
"I don't.", Isabella responded, "What about you, Everleigh?"
I furrowed my eyebrows at her, wondering why she was directing the question towards me.
"Uhm-"
"Are you in love with him?", She interrupted.
I knew everyone was watching, so I was cautious about how I acted.. that was until I felt a hand move up my thigh.
"What are you doing..", I asked, helplessly.
"Nothing.", She tilted her head, "Answer your father's question."
"They can see us."
"Not if it's under the table.", She grinned.
This girl was up to no good.
"Everleigh?", My dad repeated.
"Oh, sorry.", I anxiously laughed, "I don't have a boyfriend, and I'm not in- love."
Her fingers made their way up my skirt and into my underwear, tracing the skin around my clit.
My dad furrowed his eyebrows, "Did you choke?"
"No," I panicked, "My throat's been dry recently."
I gave Isabella a threatening look as she grinned, pulling her fingers out of my skirt, acting like nothing happened.
My dad nodded in response and began to talk with my mom and Rachel.
"Don't try that shit on me again.", I muttered.
"Don't do that shit to me again.", She scoffed, "The least I could do is that, compared to whatever you did to me."
"I said I was sorry."
"Just- give me time. Your words don't really mean anything, which was proven the other night."
She got me there. As much as I wanted us to go back to the past, hate each other, and ignore one another all over again; I still wanted to be apart of her life.
-
The rest of the dinner was silent. I tried to start small talk with Isabella who only replied with gestures.
Once she and her mom left, I rushed back up into my room and buried myself in blankets. At this point, I was too dehydrated to cry, but I was still bummed out.
I can't live with this feeling forever.
