Chapter 5

It had been almost a month since Y/N started training. He had broken a total of 10 gourds by now, and could maintain total concentration breathing for a couple of hours.

It was a lovely evening, as Rengoku was watching Y/N use Total Concentration Breathing while practicing with his sword, when suddenly, Y/N's dove comes flying with an announcement.

Dove: Nature Hashira Y/N L/N, and Insect Hashira Shinobu Koucho have been summoned by Oyakata-sama right this instant...

Y/N puts his hand up as the dove lands on it. Y/N strokes the bird's head as he smiles.

Y/N: Thank you for informing me.

Rengoku: Oh?! What's this? Did Master catch you and Shinobu doing some "things"?

Y/N: Shut it! And she probably doesn't even think of me that way...

Rengoku pats the boy's back and laughs.

Rengoku: Don't let such things stop you, Y/N! I'm sure there's something between you two!

Y/N blushes as he hides his face and takes his sword. He then starts to make his way to the Ubuyashiki Mansion, as he soon sees that Shinobu was already there.

Shinobu: Slowpoke.

Y/N: Rengoku stopped me... Sorry...

Shinobu chuckles.

Y/N: What?

Shinobu: Nothing. ^_^

Soon, Kagaya and his daughters come in as Y/N and Shinobu bow down.

Kagaya: Rise. Shinobu. Y/N. I've been noticing your progress since a while now, and I think you two are the ideal choices for this mission.

Y/N: Ideal...?

Shinobu: Mission?

Kagaya: There have been rumors of sightings of demons in a nearby town. I sent some slayers there to take care of it, but I haven't recieved a reply.

Y/N: How many slayers were sent...?

Kagaya: About a ton.

Shinobu: Okayata-sama, you couldn't possibly mean...

Kagaya: We are speculating that the demon might be one of the Twelve Kizuki.

Y/N: All those poor slayers...

Shinobu: I accept the mission, Oyakata-sama!

Y/N: Me too... I'll be on the lookout for any surviving slayers.

Shinobu: Oyakata-sama, with your permission, I would like to bring my Tsugoku, Kanao along with me. She could use some real-life experience in dealing with demons.

Kagaya: I understand. You have my permission. Leave at dusk.

The two nod and bow again as they go to their respective houses to gather the supplies needed for the mission.

Y/N was currently packing medicines and antiseptics to heal injured survivors.

Rengoku: A Twelve Kizuki, huh...?

Y/N: Yeah. That's why Oyakata-sama is sending me and Shinobu both.

Rengoku ruffles Y/N's hair.

Rengoku: Stay safe out there, okay? If something happens to you, I'll be sad.

Y/N: *joking* You can never be sad, Rengoku. You're the literal embodiment of happiness. And yes, I will take care of myself and Koucho.

Rengoku hugs Y/N tightly.
