🎶: 'Good Night' by Kep1erA few days had passed since the first graders arrived in the Ilmol Nature Reserve, and they've done so many things already in such a short time.
Juhyeok's recent favorite activity was when they went into the local town and planted flowers, vegetables or fruits in the flower beds lining the streets, and even got free candy from the elderly people who were delighted to see younglings like them in their area.
And of course, that piggyback Yerim gave him on their first day when he was too exhausted to carry on with the hike was still part of the most memorable things for him on this trip.
Tonight, his favorite memory might change though.
"Boys and girls, may I please have your attention?" Yubin asked when they arrived back at the youth hostel from their fishing adventure.
Yeonjun blew his whistle in the next moment, and the few kids still chatting hushed up.
"We've been doing a lot of things in the woods, but so far, not much has been done on camping, as the weather is not yet entirely suitable for it," Miss Bae continued.
"Indeed; we would freeze to death if we stayed overnight in the tents," Miss Choi added.
"However, we can at least have one thing related to camping, and that is a campfire!"
Gasps of happiness resonated across the first graders.
"Return to your dorms for now, but report to Garden 2 by 6pm, clear?!" Yeonjun instructed.
"YES SIR!!"
Juhyeok and Yerim clutched each other's hands in excitement and squealed.
"A campfire!!"
"I can't wait!" Yerim giggled.
The sun had already set by the time the first graders scurried towards Garden 2, welcoming the winter night. Fairy lights strung around the trees and lamp posts were turned on, giving the children a little extra source of light to find their path through.
However, there was no way that any of the kids would miss the large bonfire majestically standing in the center of the garden.
Yellow and orange flames danced over the wood, flickering and sending little sparks that dissolved into the indigo sky. It was nearly like a work of art, almost as if the colors had been painted instead of being naturally ignited.
But what caught the children's attention the most were the bags of marshmallows, s'mores, and sausages that would be roasted over the fire, waiting patiently for them in plastic wrappings and storage containers on the ground.
Yeonjun was already there, kindling the flames with a metal rod and placing some stones around it for extra precaution, but he looked up when he saw the first ones to arrive.
"Hello you three."
"Hi Coach," Jinsong greeted him.
"Excited? We have some fun things planned."
"Like?" Yerim asked.
"Roasting food over the open flame, telling stories, sharing about what we've liked the most about our trip so far, you name it."
"That does sound fun," Juhyeok remarked.
"Since you're here first, you can find the perfect spot for you to sit."
"Right!"
Yerim grasped her cousin's and best friend's hands and looked around.
"Ooo, lookie there!"
