"Dad, knock it off"

Spencer swatted at his father's hand, fixing the line on his rod. Spencer's been fishing since he was four years old. He didn't need any help in that department, but he also wasn't in the best of moods at the moment.

"Awh, does poppa need to help you fix your line again?"

Dillon tried pissing him off, always exceeding everytime. He flips him the finger, going back to adjusting his fly.

"Spence's always been an bit slow. He's never won if memory serves me right"

 Jordan joined in the commentary.

"Memory serves you wrong, I've won twice"

"Ahhhhhh. Twice."

Dillon says with an sarcastic laugh.

"Aight that's enough you two!"

Their father stopped their bickering.

"You three are just as annoying in the same way you was as teenagers"

The three men looked to each other with nonchalant shrugs. Close in age, extremely stubborn, slightly dense, but at the end of the day, there's nothing Spencer wouldn't do for them. His brothers meant everything to him. When Dillon lost himself last year, he stayed at his house on an daily basis to make sure he was good. When Jordan got hurt, he flew out to make sure he made it home. So being here back home together was all he could ask for. Family was probably the only thing that mattered to Spencer. Olivia too, but that seemed to be an done deal at this point in time.

"How's work treating you, son?"

"It's fine. We're hiring an new deputy. That way I can work a lot less"

"Good. How are things going with you and Olivia?"

"It's not. That's done"

"He got his head together too late"

Jordan tossed another insult. Carter cleared his throat.

"Don't waste any more time, Spence. If you're not gonna cherish everything you have with this woman, you're gonna regret it. Take my word for it, if she's what you want, you need to show her"

Carter loves Grace more than the average person cares for another. It's an relationship his brother and him always were envious of and in short, tried to get themselves. His mom and dad have complete conversations without saying an word, which became very useful while raising him and his brothers.

"I told her what I want"

"Then say it again and get her back" He retorted.

"Not as simple as it sounds" Carter snorts.

"Like hell it isn't. You can't expect her to believe it just cuz your saying it. She needs to see it first" Their father has always been pushing all of his boys to find an love like he shares with their mom.

"I showed her, and she chose someone else over me"

"Hmm, maybe she wasn't the one then"

"Guess I didn't realize it until it was too late" Carter casts his line with an exhale.

"A man knows. Just like an man knows when it's time to act on it"

He didn't respond to that. He's known for an long time that Olivia's the one, but he was too stubborn to make any changes. He liked their arrangement. They'd dine together, go out dancing, have an night of passion, then go their separate ways. He didn't have to answer to her, and she didn't have to tell him everything she was doing. They had their freedom.
