I reccommend listening to the song while you read (:
Minutes turned into hours then days as the entire clan gathered around awaiting news on Carter's condition. Doctors were still running some tests at the moment which was an pain in itself. The agony of not knowing the fate of your loved one could kill anyone's joy. Olivia's mom came through next, distressed rushing her way over to Marie and Amara.
"It's the leukemia, isn't it?"
She pushed out the question to the entire room as everyone nodded. Olivia's head snapped in the direction of the women, furrowing her brows in disarray.
"Mom, you knew too?"
"Not my business to tell, baby cakes"
Spencer does the math in his head, the anger that had subsided slowly making its way back to the surface.
"Hol up, all of you knew about this? You knew he was sick and didn't think to tell any of us? Letting us go to Jordan's wedding like everything's all good knowing that might be the last wedding he'll be present for? Allowing us to skip family outings and traditions, things we could've been doing with him, things we should've been doing with him!" Spencer barked.
Amara, Marie, and Lauren were family to the James's clan. Present for every event in the James's men's lives. Grace's bestfriends, and none of them said anything. Spencer's eyes watered pondering on all the time he could've spent with his dad, all that time that can't be reversed. Marie gathered her thoughts, stepping to Spencer.
"I know what it must look like but that's not what this is. We tried to convince them to tell all of you sweetie. You did have an right to know what was going on, but it wasn't our place to say anything" Spencer paced the floor letting his mind spill into overdrive.
"There's gotta be an way we can help him"
The doctor cleared his throat as Spencer turned his way seeing him standing there.
"Spencer" he said, dropping another nod in his peripheral.
"Dr. Henikins, is he good?" Moving closer.
"He's sleeping now. The anemia troubled his heart. And with the lack of oxygen to his brain and red blood cells, some of his other organs started to fail. We already gave him an fair warning that this could happen tho. I'm thinking maybe he pushed himself too hard, putting more strain on his body then he can handle. I'm sending an note in for an blood transfusion right away and he needs some other tests to be done. My focus is to get that anemia in control and if that can be accomplished, then we can get more of an idea of what we should do next" Dr. H explained.
"What about the leukemia? Is there an possibility he can beat it?" Dr. Henikins shook his head sadly.
"He'd have to get an large amount of chemo plus an bone marrow transplant after the fact. If he hadn't let the cancer spread to different parts of his body, there may have been an slight chance but after six months of growth in his form, treatment wouldn't even be an option. The rest is up to him" Indignation formed, boiling in his bloodstream.
"We can discuss all of that another time. For now, I wanna get him stable and keep him that way. There has to be an blood transfusion to manage the anemia and maintain it. Now I will warn you, once the transfusions start, he'll need them regularly and the process will move at an rapid pace"
"I need to see him" Spencer requests gently.
"That's fine, just be mindful cuz he's pretty worn out and excitement isn't his bestfriend right now so, take turns and one person in the room at an time"
