7AM. My alarm clock rang and I tossed away my sheets to go to the bathroom and splash some cold water on my face. I took out my long running trousers and a Nike fleece jacket, pushed my hair back into a tight ponytail, put on my running shoes and ran down the stairs. I opened the door downstairs and started running, wanting to turn right, but bumped into a man instead and fell to the ground.

"Ouch!" I shouted and looked up to see who the idiot was.
Of course. Green eyes, well-groomed three-day stubble: Charles Leclerc.
"Sorry sorry, are you ok?" he asked and stretched out his hand to help me up.
"I'll survive" I said when I was standing on my feet again.
"Where were you going?" he asked as he put his AirPods back into his case.
"Dog's Head" I replied.
"Same, let's run together?" he asked and I nodded.

I was good at keeping up with him and we had almost made it to the top, we were just running past the parking lot.
"Remember when we had sex here?" he chuckled.
"How could I not? I think that was the best sex we ever had!" I said and grinned.
"Really? How so?" he asked as we continued running.
"Just the raw emotions of that day, it being night, the tight space in your car, us being young and in love..." I blabbered, rewinding to that moment.
He nodded. "For me it was our first time. That was the best. I know you're probably still fucking pissed at me for that, but hearing you say my name and meaning you meant me, the real me beneath the glamorous F1 driver surface - and just you know, me having fallen head over heels for you: actually, it was the best sex I've ever had in my entire life" he said and grinned.
"Really? Aurelia did seem like quite the freak in the sheets though!" I chuckled.
"We never had sex" Charles blurted out.
"Oh, why? Are you saving yourself for marriage now?" I asked curiously. I mean, maybe he had some weird sort of conversion or whatsoever.
He burst out in laughter. "No, our relationship was an arrangement - I don't know if I should tell you the details, I'm afraid you'll burn Maranello to the ground then and poor Lando will be jobless."
"Oh my God, then I don't want to know" I said and chuckled.

We had just arrived and the view was breathtaking as usual. It was chilly as it was almost mid-December now, but it was never really cold in Monaco.
"Do you ever get tired of living here? I mean, with it being basically a small town and all" I asked him.
"Never. It's home. I feel really grounded here. But to be honest, I never would have thought that you would come back living here" he said and looked at me.
I just shrugged. I didn't feel ready yet to tell him about Bobby's letter and his wishes for me.
"Any cool stuff planned for the holidays?" he asked as he saw that I wasn't going to tell him about the details of my move here.
"Please, don't remind me. We're spending Christmas in Scotland to celebrate Oli and Amelia's engagement with our and her family, we're going to be 50 people and I already want to kill myself. But then Alice is coming here for New Year's - she split up with her boyfriend and wants a 'girl's night out'" I told him.
"What, Oli's engaged?" Charles looked at me incredulously.
"He is. They're a good fit, I'm happy for him. You can imagine my Mum. Her daughter was about to marry a Kennedy and her son's marrying a Windsor - she's over the moon" I joked.
Charles laughed. "Yep - definitely a better outcome than me and that Liza girl Oli dated for one summer" he said.
I looked at him and raised an eyebrow jokingly. "Come on, you know that you always were my mother's favourite. She never took out the Egyptian cotton sheets for Bobby like she did for you" I chuckled.
He just laughed and looked back down to the city and the sea.

"Let's run back?" he then asked and I nodded. The rest of the journey back we were in silence but he dropped me back off at my apartment and we agreed to meet up sometime soon again. In the afternoon, I had an appointment at Pascale's for a haircut and I arrived on time as usual.
"Ohh, there you are, I already know everything about your encounter with my son today" she chuckled and made me sit down to wash my hair.
"Gosh, he is such a gossip" I laughed.
"I'm happy you guys are friends again" she said.
"I am too" I replied and smiled.

Afterwards, I made my way over to Carmen and George's place. Her mother had just flown back to Spain and she still needed help with settling into an everyday routine.
George opened the apartment door and he looked... more dead than alive.
"You look like James cost you ten years of your life already in two weeks" I greeted him.
"Wow, Mary, thanks! What a greeting" he replied annoyedly and I just grinned.
"Where's Carmen?" I asked.
"Bedroom, feeding him" he replied and walked to the sofa where I was pretty sure he fell asleep the moment he landed on it.

"Can I come in?" I asked and knocked on their bedroom door.
"Thank God you're here, come in" I heard her say and I opened the door.
"My boob is falling off, he's been glued to me since two hours, he's like a vampire" she whined.
"Ok, come on, give him to me and you go take a shower. How's your bleeding going?" I asked her and opened my arms, ready to take the baby.
He was whining a bit when his mom detached him from her breast, but I quickly took him before she could get any mom guilt.
"Hop under the shower and freshen up, I'll try and calm him down." I said calmly and tried to coo the baby in my arms."
"But he's crying" she said, almost on the verge of tears - she really was exhausted.
"He's well-fed after two hours and you're entitled to ten minutes for yourself, now go!" I said and shooed her out.

When she had disappeared I opened the bedroom window to let in some fresh air shortly. I found her baby carrier in the corner of the room and strapped it on to put James inside. He was still mewling a bit, but I carried on, he was going to fall asleep soon I figured.
I saw that the bedsheets were stained and took them off. Thankfully, I had re-organised her pantry a few weeks ago and knew where the fresh ones were, so I quickly took them and re-made the bed. James had fallen asleep and I kept him in the carrier, so that he could get some rest.

Carmen had come back now, wrapped in a towel and her eyes almost popped out of her head when she saw the cleaned-up room.
"You're a fairy, Mary" she said and grinned.
"If the Mum feels well, the baby will feel well too" I said and smiled.
"Ok, sit here and tell me what's new, I barely make it to my phone and I'm missing out on all the gossip" she said and laid down on the bed, applying some body lotion.
"Ok, so... Oli is engaged, Alice is single again, Lando hooked up with the receptionist at Vaubin and Nyck has successfully bought Toto's stake at Williams" I brabbled.
"How do you know all this stuff?" she asked.
"I am single and don't work" I shrugged.
"You mean, you're living off your cleverly invested money and enjoying a free life for the first time since university?" Carmen replied.
"Oh, I met Charles by chance this morning, we went for a run together" I added.
"Ok now this is more interesting than everything you told me before" she chuckled and wiggled with her eyebrows.
"We're friends, it was actually quite nice, we laughed about some memories we had from when we were together and were really decent to each other" I replied and smiled.
"Friends... Nice... Decent..." Carmen mocked me and I rolled my eyes but had to let out a laugh.
