A cricket sings outside our window,
you keep me in warm embrace
under blanket and sheets,
I settle in sleep after nightfall,
upon completion of adventure,
peaceful rest in our home together,
I settle with you in sleep after nightfall,
with you so easy I can drift
to the safety of dreaming,
I settle in sleep after nightfall,
we made the journey after all,
now prepare we for winter,
look toward crisp leaves of fall,
more sagas to come,
trails and campfire,
mountain and glacier,
old cities baroque and villages quaint,
but light we the candles at home again,
content with the time between
continuing growth in spirit,
and I really like the cricket sound
in the night outside our window,
it pairs well with your warmth
and the way you hold onto me,
the way it settles me in sleep,
after nightfall,
tranquil rest,
knowing I have God
and knowing He gave me you,
to be with me through it all.
