"So you mean to tell me Mom and Dad don't even know I was in the hospital, let alone the fact that all four of us were brutally attacked?" Riley questioned from the back of Connor's car, smirking wildly and high fiving Toby in the process.
I beamed at him from the sun visor mirror and as I went back to examining my cuts I noticed I he had been looking and he gave me that look from the hospital bathroom again. I don't know what it was to the face he gave me but it caused my breath to catch in my throat and my heart to altogether race for a second.
"Kody, you're fine. When we get back to the house I'll help rub some rubbing alcohol on the cuts." Connor pipped in, breaking Riley's intense stare. It took me a moment to give Connor my attention and reword what he had said.
"Oh of course, but it's going to burn." I whined catching the gleam of humor in Connor's oh-so-blue eyes.
"That's what you have me for." He grinned largely and went back to paying attention to the main road.
I tried tuning out Toby and Riley's conversation but since Connor refused to play his radio at the moment it was all I could hear.
"Dude, when are you going to break up with that psycho. She basically clawed Kody to death." Toby indignantly whispered, mumbling the last part. I caught him look my way and I acted as if I was unaware to what they were discussing.
"I have no idea. When I first started seeing her I thought I could handle a different wild girl but now I just realized she is pretty crazy. She'll probably send me death threats if I dump her so close to our 5 month." Riley chuckled sounding uncaring about the entire thing.
As Toby continued speaking with Riley I leaned my head against the leather of the vehicle and scanned the trickled blood that stained my white top. Connor peered over at me and nudged my shoulder lightly. "I'll wash it for you." You stated while turning into the driveway that had been the most familiar thing to me in the last few years of my life.
Unbuckling my seatbelt I exited the car and Riley was right on my heels as I entered their house. We turned in opposite directions; him running upstairs, and me striding to the living room. Peeling the messy shirt from my head I looked for another top and as I continued searching I felt the presence of someone watching over my shoulders and I grabbed a white NeverShoutNever T-shirt and held it against my slightly nude upper half and rolled my eyes when I came in contact with Connor.
"Enjoying the show, I see. Well I don't come free."
"Wouldn't that make you a prostitute if you don't come free?" Connor cocked his head, furrowing his brow with humor in the process. I rolled my eyes and chuckled, turned away from Connor and quickly redressed into the Band-tee.
After Connor actually did do my wash he forced me to use the rubbing alcohol and locked the bathroom door as I attempted to flee when he wasn't looking.
"It's not going to hurt that bad-" He began but I had cut him off.
"Yeah, because you're not the one getting it poured into your fleshly slit cuts." I retorted, kicking my feet against the cool wood of the counter Connor forced me to sit on, se we'd be at eye level. He chuckled and patted me on the back and started dabbing the cotton balls against my skin.
I'll admit it wasn't as bad as I had made the situation seem but I don't handle pain well and the alcohol still burned. Biting my lip and scrunching my eyes I felt a warm hand interlock with mine and I opened my eyes and looked at Connor in dazed surprised. It felt odd to have Connor holding my hand. I mean we did hold hands all the time. But this was different. I felt like it meant something else this time. Not like how it used to mean.
