I hummed quietly as I rinsed off the white porcelain plate among my slim fingers, doing the dishes silently. I jumped slightly when Riley appeared behind me, and he chuckled lowly.

"Did I scare you?" He asked with a tinge of humor sketched in his hazel orbs. I shook my head, and turned back to doing the dishes. He leaned his back against the counter, sitting on it, dangling his feet in the air. "Ignoring me isn't very nice." He says, laughing.

"I'm trying to do the dishes." I giggle, placing the plate on the dish rack.

"Go out with me tonight. Just you and me." He says bluntly, smirking.

A small smile curves at the ends of my mouth and I look up at Riley with an incredilous look on my face. "Are you asking me on a date?"

"It's only a date if you want it to be one." He says softly so only I can hear and he bites his bottom lip, laughing as he looks at the ground. "I won't tell Connor, either." He adds.

I shut off the water, wiping the water off the counter with a rag and I toss it into the laundry basket in the wash room.

"Where are we going?" I ask shyly.

"That's a surprise." Riley says, hopping off the counter and walking towards me slowly.

I gaze up at his clear pale face as his dark eyes meet my light ones. "I don't like surprises." I say, frowning.

"You'll like this one. Trust me." He mumbles, placing his forefingers against the wall, his arms either side of my shoulders.

I tensen from the closeness and peer at his face questioningly. He chuckles and pecks my forehead.

"Be ready and outside by my car by 6:30." Riley mumbles, pulling his arms back, leaving.

I watch as he walks away and furrow my eyebrows in confusion. "He is so weird.. and adorable." I whisper, walking to the living room to look for something to wear, feeling nervous.

After I straightened my hair and applied lip gloss to my bare lips, I flattened down my top and shut the front door of the McDonough's house softly, walking over to Riley's car.

He was standing, leaning against the hood of the car, wearing black skinny jeans, a black v-neck tee shirt and a black leather jacket and Supras. I smiled at him warmly and his lip twitched into a crooked grin as he walked over to my door, opening it for me.

I blush lightly and climb in, buckling my seat belt as he climbs into the drivers side, starting the ignition as he buckled his seat belt. "Thank you." I mumble quietly. He grinned in response and backed out of the smooth driveway.

The sky was beautifully cloudless and my window was rolled down, wind flying through my hair, sending it everywhere.

"You look nice." Riley comments, as he gazes over at me when he stops at a red light.

My lips pull into a bashful grin and I look over at him, tearing my eyes from the window. "Thank you. So do you." I murmur softly. He grins again and hits the gas as soon as the light turns green.

After about thirty minutes of driving we pull into a dirt pathway, surrounded by the woods and he shuts the car off. Unbuckling his seat belt and climbing out of the car.

I look around after I get out of my side of the car and gasp slightly when Riley appeara next to me with a picnic basket. I gaze at the basket and then at his smirking face and I shake my head, chuckling.

"You are such a dork, Riley." I mumble, smiling adoringly.

"You are totally swept off your feet from this dork, right now, Kody." He contorts back, smiling as he takes my hand softly, leading me through a cleared out path and into the woods.

I follow him obediently, holding his hand lightly in my own, smiling softly to myself at the sensations it gives me.

We enter a flower blossoming field, where a few blankets are laying in the middle of the field, with a guitar laying on it's back beside them and three candels around the blanket.

I scan my eyes over the setup and then at Riley, and I blush lightly. "Did you do all of this?" I ask softly.

Riley's index finger rubs my reddened cheek and he nods his head. "Of course I did." And he pulls me with him, sitting down slowly. I sit criss crossed and I smile at him faintly, laughing. "You know, I don't get you, at all"

He furrows his eyebrow and shrugs, answering bluntly. "No one really does." And he doesn't say anything else.

I remain quiet and watch as he opens the picnic basket, pulling out all the food. "I just made two peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, some lemonade and cookies." He says, chuckling faintly.

I smile and grab the bottle of lemonade, taking a sip. "This is actually really amazing, Riley." I say, smiling admiringly.

"I just wanted to have some time alone with you." He mumbles awkwardly, smiling softly.

"Riley?"

"Yes?"

"Why did you use to act like I was no one? It made me feel like complete shit." I whisper, looking down at my hands.

I heard him sigh and he tilts my chin up with his finger, making me look into his eyes. "I know it makes no sense that all of a sudden I am acting completely different with you. No sense at all. And it probably never will make sense. But just trust me when I say I've always liked you, I just couldn't let you know that. I've always been looking out for you and protecting you. I just can't tell you the reason why or how. Just trust me. I wish I could tell you more or explain but I literally can't. Just trust me." He mumbles, gazing into my eyes.

I feel my mind fuzz as I stare into his gorgeous amber eyes, trying to find meaning out of his words. I can tell he doesn't want to answer any questions, but I can't help but hear millions flying around in my head. I part my lips and reply, "I trust you."

His lips pull into a grin and he chuckles. I watch as he laughs and he leans toward me, softly brushing my lips with his.

He pushes my hair back, lightly cupping my cheek, stroking it with his index finger. I gasp, moving my lips along with his.

He pulls back, his eyes still shut as he breathes lightly. "I will protect you. I promise." And he pecks my lips again. I stare at him questioningly, but he just smiles and begins to eat his sandwich.

I was absolutely sure of three things; One: I was in love with Riley. Two: He knew something and he wasn't telling me. Three: He's known for awhile.
