The chirps from a flock of birds awoke me that morning, and as I opened my eyes a stream of blinding sunlight poured into my vision.

The television was turned off and the only audible noise was Riley’s light breathing.

After we had our heart-to-heart moment last night he promised to keep me company until I fell asleep. He must have fallen asleep while waiting. I smiled lightly and stood up, wobbly legged and dragged myself to the bathroom to shower.

The hot suds felt refreshing against my tan skin and after I shampooed and conditioned my long locks with my favorite green apple scented washes I wrapped a white towel around my average-sized  form and began to floss and brush my teeth. The scratches on my cheeks were almost completely gone, but if you knew about them you’d be able to see them clearly.

I combed through my hair and exited the room and into the living room to dress myself.

Riley was still sleeping as I searched through my bags for an outfit. Today was going to be a lazy day so I grabbed a tye-dye tank top and white Hollister jean shorts.

After I had dressed and began cooking breakfast the patter of footsteps caused me to look behind my shoulder.

A half awake Riley made his way into the kitchen and he leaned against the counter casually beside me.

Smiling at him, he began talking. “My neck hurts so badly. I must have slept on it weird.” He complained. I bit my bottom lip, holding in a chuckle and continued to flip the pancakes I had started to make. So Riley was still talking to me. “You could always get a massage for $20.” I suggested helpfully.

“Or a free one.” He suddenly whispered in my ear, his hot breath causing goosebumps to rise against my skin, making me to tense up and drop the pancake I had just flipped onto the floor, just as Connor stumbled into the kitchen.

“Morning Kody and Ri-Riley?” He stated in surprise. Riley had backed away from me before Connor had seen anything, and I dropped to my knees and began picking up the ooey pieces of the pancake.

“Mornin’ Connor, I am such a klutz and lost my grip on the spatula.” I chuckled lightly, looking at the floor to hide the fact I was blushing crimson red.

“I heard the noise and came to help.” Riley stated defensively, brushing off Connor’s knowing glare. He cocked an eyebrow and went to the fridge and grabbed a water bottle.

“What really happened?” Connor asked as Riley fled to another room.

“Riley is acting..different.” I whispered, peering up at Connor and making sure Riley was gone.

“How is he acting different?”

“He’s not ignoring me anymore.” I answered briefly and poured more pancake mix onto the pan.

“Have you been dreaming again?” Doctor Thames asked as I sat quietly staring at my hands and remained silent. He wrote something in his journal and gazed back at me in curiosity.

“Kody, you need to talk to get better. It’s the only way you’ll get-”

“They’re getting worse.” I broke in, gazing at the floor. “Last night I dreamt that he was hiding in bushes and pulled me awa-” I stopped instantly when I noticed bruises clearly new around my ankles. My heart froze and my mouth dropped in awe. My head snapped up as my therapist cleared his throat. “He pulled you away?” He continued.

I stood up. Slamming my chair against the wall I crashed through the doors, brushed past Connor, who looked at me with an incredulous stare and I ran into the women's restroom. Tearing off my t-shirt I turned my back to the mirror. On the left side of my lower back was a clear impact mark. I dropped to the floor and began convulsing quietly. After I finished my episode I sat against the wall, my knees to my chest and began rocking back and forth. I hid my face on my knees and weeped. I gazed upward when a hand lightly touched my shoulder. It was Connor gawking down at me.

My face flushed of color for one I was wearing no shirt, and secondly Connor hadn’t seen one of my episodes since two years ago. He slid against the wall and sat next to me and pulled me into his arms and rocked us back and forth.

“It’s going to be okay.” He mumbled in my ear. “I’m here for you. I always will be.”

I cried against his chest and whimpered quietly.

I felt him lean slightly away and as I gazed into his oceans of eyes he leaned down and softly brushed his smooth lips against mine.

If you aren't on the floor in fetal position I am judging you. I am convulsing. Why'd I end it like this holy poop.
