"Hello" I say
"Hi, it's me surgeon Ashley Carter. I just wanted to let you know the surgery is finished" he says
"Is everything okay? Did it all go well" I ask
"We don't know for sure, but she has a heartbeat for now. We will have to keep doing tests and therefore you and Leah will not be able to come in until tomorrow at around 10am. I'm sorry, I know you guys will want to come in. But she's fine for now and if there's any change I'll make sure to give you a call"
"Thank you, I will pass that onto Leah" I say
"Okay, see you tomorrow"

The call ends and I breathe a sigh of relief. I go into the living room and say "that was surgeon Carter, everything's gone well. However, we can't go in until tomorrow after 10" I say
Leah stands up and hugs me "thank you for everything" she says
"It's no problem" I reply
She kisses me and says "I love you"
"I love you too" I reply.

She turns to Beth and Viv "thank you guys as well, you sorta distracted me"
Beth says "hey, it's no problem"
"You may as well stay over it's late and I don't want anything to happen, I'll show you the spare room" I say
They get up and I take them upstairs I say "if you want pyjamas it's the top drawer and anything else is second or third draw"
"Why are you so organised?" Viv asks me
"Can't help it" i reply
I walk out and go to Leah. I go downstairs and see her hugging Bailey. I stand at the doorway and say "you okay?"
"Still worried I guess, but she's okay. What did doctor Carter say exactly" she asks
"He said, she's fine and has a heartbeat any change and he'll call me"
"She's alive?" Leah asks
"Yeah, she's alive" I say
She hugs me and starts crying. "I felt the guilt inside of me, if the surgery didn't work out" Leah says
"But it did" I say

We go to our room and fall asleep, at about 4am I wake up to a phone call. I put the lamp on and answer the phone. "Hello" I say
"Hi, this is Surgeon Carter. I promised I would call you if something changed." He says
I stand up and walk out "yes you did, erm. What's happened" I ask
"We've had to perform cpr, she was unresponsive for 5 minutes and her machines were beeping non stop, her heart stopped working there was no other option."
"Is she okay now?" I ask
"I don't even know how to say this. Can you and Leah come to the hospital?" He asks
"Yeah, I'll wake her up. We will be there as soon as possible"
"Thanks"

I go up to Beth and Vivs room first. I say "Beth, Viv"
They start to wake up "what?" Beth asks
I put the lamp on and say "I need to go the hospital with Leah. Will you guys come?" I ask
"Yeah, of course" they say and get out of bed.
This was the hard part waking Leah up.

I go into my room and start kissing her cheek. "Le" I say quietly
She wakes up and keeps her eyes closed "what time is it?"
"4:08 exactly" I say
"Why, are you waking me up this early?"
"Doctor Carter called, we need to go to the hospital"
"Oh shit" she says and jumps out of the bed. I get changed and so does she.

We get in the car and Beth and Viv get in the back. We get there and I put my thigh on Leah's leg "whatever he has to say, it will be fine okay" I say

We get there and see him stood at the doorway, he unlocks it and lets us in. "Normally we don't do this, but I can see how close you all are with Amanda. I don't usually let patients relatives in this early. As you can tell, the place is quiet. Everyone's asleep, so please try and stay quiet as we walk through the corridor to my office"
We get in his corridor and we sit down.

"This morning at 2am, Amanda became unresponsive we did hourly checks to make sure she was okay. We performed cpr, we did everything possible. She came back around and I sat in her room to make sure she wasn't going to be unresponsive again. I watched as her chest went up and down hoping their wasn't going to be a last breathe. I had hope for her. At 4 I called Ella, I didn't know what else to do. But I couldn't say this over the phone, I don't like doing that" he says
