chapter 14:
it's been 5 days since everyone came to rose's place.
it's saturday today.
rose is supposed to head to work in 3 hours.
she opens the fridge to take the milk out and looks at the note adam wrote her last time he came over.
"do you miss him too, little mouse?" rose pouts and shakes the milk.
she pours some on her tea and heads to the couch.
she has open books and printed sheets in front of her.
she sips on her drink and writes notes while she's at it.
she gets startled when she gets a new text from georgia.
it's a picture of issac and tom at the hospital.
rose sends a text to georgia asking her, how did it go? did they get on well?
she takes the dishes to the sink and washes her hands.
she gets another text from georgia, they got on well, yes. they're talking about their books.
rose smiles at the mention of these two cute little kids.
'do you need me to watch over dodo while you're at work?' reads rose.
no. I'll only be gone from 13:00 till 16:00. he'll be asleep the whole time. thanks for offering.
rose can't help but double send, did you see adam? how is he?'
rose hears the doorbell ringing, she looks at her clock; 11:57.
with a confused look on her face, she goes to open the door and finds jack. "hello, jack. what a wonderful surprise! come in."
.he comes in and takes his shoes off. "I just got back from my session. went and got us pastries from the shop you love on my way here." jack raises his hand to show her the bag hugging his fingers.
"well, I need to get to work in an hour, reckon you can make us tea while I go get ready?" jack nods and heads to the kitchen with dodo following him behind. "did you feed him?" asks jack.
rose answers from her room, "yes, just give him a treat bite."
rose begins walking to the school that's only a 15-minute walk.
she passes by lots of stationeries, cafes, banks, and supermarkets.
she finds a lot of children walking in with parents who are carrying their backpacks.
the smell of papers, ink, and coffee welcome her to the school.
she enters the teachers room and accepts one of the teacher's offer to make her a cup of tea.
she notices how all the teachers desks are identical to hers. many attendance sheets, many registration forms, and junior books.
she is startled when a teacher announces, "I'm going to have a smoke outside, would you like to join?" rose politely shakes her head and says that she isn't a smoker.
"well, grab your drink and let's sit in the balcony, you don't have to smoke" he insists.
when he gives a minuscule smile, rose gives in. "okay, but only because I want to see the bal-balcony" she explains quietly.
"ladies first" he lets her walk first before he follows her. they pass by and see students hanging their jackets behind the chair and taking notebooks out. some are filling their cups with water, and some are buying biscuits from the vending machine.
