chapter 28:

adam hears knocks on his door. "come in."

he pops the lid back on his pen and watches rose entering his office.

her sundress making an appearance as well as the sun peeking through when she opens the door.

"how are you, my love? I missed you." he gets up from his chair and kisses the side of her head.

she sits on his desk to look at him, better.

he sits back on his chair and brings it closer to her body and holds both her hands.

she hugs one of his large hands in both hers.

"did you see your dad?" he asks her.

she nods, "yes, I came with el here, she went to finn's and I went to see my dad. he was asleep but woke up when I came" she says. "he apologized." rose pouts. "he told me that he didn't mean to make me upset. I know I should be the one to apologize, but I didn't expect him to apologize, let alone address our conversation back then" she tells adam.

he listens to her talk, doesn't interrupt her once. until she tells him, "what do you think?" he tucks the strand of hair behind her ear that always frustrates her.

"I think you should apologize. you know just to have done the right thing. you did call him selfish, love, I'm sure he's upset about it" urges adam. "what do you think?" he raises her head to meet her eyes, applying a bit of pressure on her chin to force her to meet his eyes.

"would you like us to take him with us tonight? have dinner together?" proposes adam.

"we can? but you said he has to stay in the hospital" says rose.

"only for a couple of hours. after we finish our work at the hall, we can come pick him up and take him out to dinner. what do you say, sweet girl?"

"what color do I remind you of?" adam hears her ask him.

he shifts his attention from the road in front of him to his girl sitting beside him, licking her ice-cream.

"what color do you remind me of? is this a trick question?" he takes the ice cream that is in her other hand and bites into it.

"it's not, no. just want to know." adam swallows the chocolate-flavored ice cream before telling her that she reminds him of the colors pink and purple. "

why? because I'm a girl?" she asks before licking more of her mango-flavored ice cream.

"no, because your clothes are either pink or purple, your house walls are pink, your bedsheet and pillowcase are pink, your mobile-cover is purple. I always get you pink or purple flowers. your diary is pink, your mugs are all pink and purple. should I continue?" she chuckles at his answer.

"okay, do you want me to tell you what color you remind me of?" she shifts in her seat to face him better.

"go on." smiles adam.

"you remind me of white. as cliché as it sounds. you're kind to everyone, you're fun to be around, you make my worries disappear, just like how books make them disappear. the more time I spend with you, the happier I am, just like how the more pages you skip through in a book, the more excited you are. I love spending time with you. you're good to me, and your heart is so big, I see how you are with your patients. you care so much and give so much. you assure them and help them so much."

well, now adam feels bad.

his answer is bad compared to hers.

"well, you're making me feel bad about my answer now, ro" he giggles.
