chapter 42:
"that's me when I was young" points rose to her picture.
"momma, does she look like me when I was a baby?" points ethan to rose.
"you do look your sister, of course" says may.
may thinks it's worth telling her son a white-lie, when he claps his hand and leans his head on his sister's shoulder.
"ah that was at jack's wedding, do you remember it?" ethan nods.
"I was one day pregnant" comments rose.
"sissy?" rose hums when ethan calls her name.
"when you take your baby out, does this mean she'll be my sister, too?"
ethan's vocabulary cackles rose and his mother.
"no, sweetie, my baby girl will be your niece" says rose.
rose and adam are 97% convinced their baby is a girl, that adam has told everyone they're having a baby girl, that everyone at the hospital asks them what they'll name her? and if she's troubling rose?
"niece?" asks ethan, confusedly.
"a niece is the daughter of a sister or brother, baby."
ethan sighs in realization.
"got it." he winks his eye and raises his thumb.
rose skips to adam's part of the album. "this is adam."
ethan smiles when the photo of adam holding a hedgehog comes.
"would dodo eat a hedgehog?" asks ethan, out of the blue.
rose shakes her head, laughing. "you're an odd one, ethie."
an hour later, ethan sits on the floor in front of the TV watching an episode of max and ruby, eating chicken fingers and fries.
"love, where do you keep your dish-soap?" asks may, her voice coming from the kitchen.
"no, may, don't worry about that. come sit, I'll do them later."
may has been helping rose at every chance she gets, between coming to her place with ethan while adam is at work, to bringing her food and doing her grocery shopping for her.
"come on, they're just 4 dishes. i'll do them" says rose, while trying to stand up.
rose is entering her second trimester, and it's getting hard for her to get up from couches (especially after having laid down there for hours) and emotional for her when adam goes to work, or when her food takes forever to arrive.
"adam says that he'll be home in 10. he's asking, if you guys want anything for him to bring?"
may shakes her head at the same time that ethan shouts "M&M'S."
"alright, I'll call him and tell him to bring you one. or two?" rose whispers the last part so may doesn't hear her, "you want one, too?" he whispers back, and rose nods.
rose picks ethan's plate from off the floor and takes it to the kitchen to wash it.
"did you talk to your friend?" asks may.
"el?" nods may. "yes, they've landed in istanbul at 5."
rose watches may as she washes the dishes, while pouring herself a glass of water.
"show me any pictures they send" winks may.
eliana and finn are going to istanbul for two weeks, and rose has missed them so much.
