Run. The word was all I could think of. I pushed my legs to go faster than they already were. I ran with all of my might, fueling my legs with panic and fear. As I ran, I could still hear the voice of my father in my ear, and it sent chills through me.
"You can never leave, I will find you if you run. Your resistance is futile"
The voice in my head pushed me to run faster. I heard the squealing of tires behind me and I threw a quick glance back to see two of my father's goons jump from the dark sedan that they had been in and begin the chase on foot. I tried to will myself to pick up speed but it was no use, I was already running as fast as I could. I looked up the dark street and saw it maybe a block and a half away, my safe haven. I ran, breathing heavily all the way to the bottom of the steps before one of the big lugs grabbed my shoulder. Using what I had been taught in the self defense class my father forced me to take (pretty much the only good thing he ever did for me), I grabbed a hold of the big mans thumb pulling backwards sharply. I felt a small pop as his thumb broke and he screamed in pain, releasing me from his grasp. By the time I fended off the first man the second had caught up and reached out for me. I nimbly dodged his clumsy hand and ran up the stairs. The big guy, having grasped air, lost his balance and crashed face first into the stairs.
"The boss will kill us if Yuki gets out!" The one with the broken thumb called to the other through groans of pain, even though I was sure that the face first fall had knocked the guy out. I reached the top of the stairs completely out of breath, my heart racing. I hastily reached for the door but I paused and turned on my heal to face my attackers
"You should really lay off the sweets," I taunted, "you two tubs of lard couldn't catch a stick if it laid still." I childishly stuck my tongue out and ran through the door into the police station. I slammed the door shut and screamed at the top of my lungs.
"I have vital information concerning the investigation on Kei Ito!" Everyone sat there for a second, processing what I had just screamed. It was so quiet that all you could hear was my labored breathing. Suddenly everyone jumped into action, some were making phone calls, others were bandaging my minor scrapes and cuts from an earlier fall. Once everyone makes sure that I'm alright I'm taken towards a room with a sign over it that simply says "Ootori". I reach for the door handle, but the door is opened before my hand can grasp the handle. I look up, and that is when I saw him.
