Aurelia had a weird day at work that sent her home early for things out of her control. All she wanted on her way home was for no one to bother her, get a snack maybe a nap and then make a comfort meal.
Aurelia opens the apartment door with ease being able to hear Jaime talking to someone. He was probably talking into his headseat playing some video game but in entering the space he was nowhere in the living room.
Hanging her keys in the hallway space she follows his voice out of curiosity being able to hear a pause in his speech but never hearing another voice.
"Hey," Aurelia greets her roommate
"Oh, hey!" Jaime turns around to face her taking his eyes off the hot oil on the stove
There being dough and familiar fried round shapes on a towel in the side counter she asks, "What are you making?"
"Arepas"
"You know how to make arepas?" Aurelia asks in shock up also very eagerly hoping he'd made extras. Now that was a comfort food right there and while she was accustomed to having cheese filled arepas this might be close enough
"I don't. Uh my mom's giving me a crash course," Jaime points to the laptop on the kitchen island where an older woman's face had been this whole time and she'd just totally missed it
Aurelia sends the camera a smile before turning to Jaime with a pleading look of apology whispering, "I'm so sorry"
Aurelia had voiced to him that she did not tell her parents that she was roommates with a boy and will probably not tell them for a good while - it was a heads up as to not be offended. Jaime on the other hand, not having many big secrets from his family, told them he'd moved out of the dorms and in with a roommate. Only he had yet to break the news that the roommate was a girl and that they were only friends.
"Amà, ella es mi compañera de cuarto Aurelia," Jaime introduces her as his roommate meaning he felt confident in sharing information she wasn't
Jaime's mother gives him a pointed look but overall stayed poised so Aurelia turns back to the laptop, "Holla Senora Reyes, es un placer conocerte"
"Igualmente Aurelia. Y cómo se conocieron?" The mother asks how they'd meant which was a simple innocent question but really was fishing for information
Someone out of the frame asks the Reyes matriarch is asked who she's talking to. Jaime recognizing the voice turns to Aurelia while his mom answers that she's talking to Jaime and his girl roommate, "Heads up you are going to be meeting my family"
