Dallas Winston had a terrified look in his eyes.

He wiped around corners, driving as fast as he could.

Red and blue police lights flashed behind us, and Dallas quickly pulled over to the side of the road.

The police officer got off of his motorcycle, and walked up to Dallas’s window.

"You two, look sick." Dallas told us, before he rolled his window down.

Ponyboy and I didn't have a problem with that.

We both looked and felt terrible.

We were all covered in mud, blood, and new bruises.

The two of us sank back in the seat, and let out painful groans.

"Where's the fire?" The officer asked Dallas.

"Um... these kids fell off their motorcycle. I'm just taking them to the hospital." Dallas quickly thought of a lie.

The officer looked over at us, and his facial expression quickly changed.

"How bad are they?" The officer asked Dallas in a much different tone.

"I don't know, man! Do I look like a doctor to you?" Dallas replied back.

"Follow me, I'll give you an escorted." The officer told Dallas.

He walked back to his bike, and drove in front of us.

Dallas glanced back over and Ponyboy and I.

"You two all right?" Dallas asked us.

Ponyboy and I let out groans in response.

Dallas quickly filled with anger.

"None of this mess would have happened if you guys just listened to me!" Dallas yelled.

Ponyboy and I just looked over at him.

Dallas looked like he was at his breaking point.

"If you guys got smart like me, this wouldn't have happened! You get tough like me, and nothing can touch you, man!" Dallas yelled out, and punched the top of his steering wheel.

Dallas looked like he was crying.

This wasn't good.

I knew it.

Dallas wiped into the parking lot of the hospital.

Ponyboy and I both put our arms around Dallas.

Dallas practically carried Ponyboy and I through the hospital and into Johnny's room.

My heart sank again, as we walked into the room.

Johnny was now laying on his back.

He looked like he was in way worse shape than he was in before.

His skin didn't hardly have any color to it, and his lips were pretty blue.

Dallas knelt at Johnny's bed side, and put his hand on his shoulder.

"We did it Johnny! We beat the socs.  We chased them right out of our neighborhood." Dallas forced a smile.

"Fighting don't do no good." Johnny seemed to whisper out.

"Were all proud of you, Johnny." Dallas told him.

Johnny's face seemed to light up a bit.

Johnny reached his hand out, and grabbed mine.
