They couldn't give us much information without their files but because now I've been attacked and escaped we're being taken to the police station. Edward's nerves were all over the place, I could feel his tension on my hand, perhaps maybe it was mine. The images of today's events pass through my mind like a flash, horrible nightmares and the thought that I'm not the first one makes it worse.
Detective Clark didn't bother to give us a tour around the place, he guided us straight to the conference office where all the files were. When we entered a gourp of men and one women were gathered around the glass table, a map spread out and several papers on the side. They all had tired looks, how long has this been going on?
"Anything?" Clark asked.
A man shook his head. "There's been a report about an hour ago, they've found the body of a women about ten minutes from Pay Attention Seattle."
"What?" I gasp.
"Seems like our little friend didn't want to leave any witnesses, he left us a little gift." He takes out a plastic bag and drops it on the table.
Detective Clark leans over and reads it. "Shit," he cursed rubbing his eyes. "It's not handwritten."
I take a step closer to the table and read it. Number Fifteen Down, More To Go. Fifteen? Fifteen! He's killed fifteen women counting the one today, I can't believe it she saved my life and I didn't even know her name. Fifteen. Could he possibly be after me now? Of course, I'm the only one who got away.
"Did he murder Jessica Gonzales?" I asked looking at Clark. "It wasn't her mother..."
"That was her mother," he said.
"It can't be!" I snapped. "He was planning on doing the same thing to me this afternoon. He taped me and pointed a gun to my side! Jessica was found in that same condition, don't tell me it was Mrs. Gonzales because she wouldn't kill her own daughter."
"Who the hell is she?" The only women besides me asked irritated.
"She was attacked today," Clark said. He walked up to the giant screen and turned it on. Edward pulls me away from the table and holds me right beside him. "We have no idea of who he is, what he wants or why he's doing this," said Clark. "Over the past year women have been brutally murdered same conditions we've found Jessica in and you were in. The first one was in Chicago, Illinois. Elizabeth Dawson."
Her picture appears on the screen. My breath gets caught in my throat. It was that girl from my dream. That girl with clear blue eyes and dark hair, only here she doesn't look like a ghost, she looks alive and filled with life. She looked beautiful but it looks the picture was cut off, someone else was with her.
"Elizabeth was twenty-one, she finished college, had a boyfriend and a apartment to her own. Nothing out of normal until one day she got in a huge fight with her boyfriend, he left her alone and then the next day when her mother went to visit her she found her dead on her bed." The picture pops up, the same image from my dream. I can feel Edward tense up right next to me, or could it be me. "Apparently she was being followed, photographed and stalked for almost a month." He looked at me and said, "this man played with her head, made her weak and filled with fear, just as he wants them before he kills them."
So, we go on for about an hour. They were all young woman, all beautiful and happy with a life that soon turned upside down once this maniac started stalking them. They were all being followed, they were all being frightened and they were all killed. I was next, I may still be next. He may not give up until he gets rid of me, he may not stop until he sees me suffer a slow painful death.
