Chapter 3

Lily's POV

I saw my dad screaming at someone. And it wasn't just anyone. It was Julia. She was trying to walk away from him but he kept up. I guess there's no point in lying to her anymore. My dad probably thinks I'm at her house or something. I grabbed Elizabeth's arm and ran behind a building with her. "Do you know those two people?" "Yeah. Thats my dad and my friend." She looked confused. I think she knew there was something off about me but I don't think she expected this. "Let's go help her then." I didn't know what to do. If I got out there and helped Julia, my dad would find me and take me back home. If I didn't help Julia who knows what could happen. "My dad can't know I'm here! He will take me back if he sees me." "I'll call the cops if he takes you." What did she just say? I think I heard her wrong. I just met her a few hours ago and she is acting like I've known her my whole life. "What would you say? Hey, a girl ran away so her father came and brought her home?" "I don't know but I won't let him take you." I smile. I think I'm starting to like Elizabeth a little bit more.

Elizabeth's POV

What the hell is happening? I have to stop making decisions on 3 hours of sleep. I barely know this girl. What am I doing? You know what, no. I'm going to help her. Her dad looks like a psychopath and her friend looks helpless. I have to do something. I grabbed Lily's hand and walked with her to where her father was. "Lily!" Her friend was excited to see her. She looked at me and put a big smile on her face. I guess she knew who I was.

Lily's POV

I wanted to punch my dad in the face. So bad. I don't know what happened next. It felt like I just had a random burst of confidence because I walked up to him and yelled at him to leave Julia alone. He asked me where I had been for the past four hours and why I ran away. I didn't respond. I guess he got mad because he grabbed me and punched me. The whole world went spinning. Everything was blurry. I got my vision back and I saw Elizabeth yelling at my dad. Julia came over and helped me up. "Are you okay?" "Yeah I'm fine." "Why didn't you text me back? I thought something bad happened so I was running to your house but he saw me." This was too much for me to comprehend. I couldn't think of the right words to say right now so I just didn't say anything. Elizabeth came over, grabbed both of our hands and started to walk away. I don't know what she said to my dad but he backed off. We walked in silence. I felt sorry that I was putting them through this. I wouldn't be surprised if Elizabeth kicked me out and Julia stopped being my friend.

Julia's POV

Okay am I dreaming? I'm standing next to THE Elizabeth Teeter! How did Lily know her? I have so many questions to ask, but I managed to only pick one to say. "Where are we going?" Elizabeth had a serious look on her face but changed to a smile when I asked the question. "To my apartment." Oh. My. God. Im going to her apartment! I'm freaking out right now! I'm so excited to meet Henry! I'm so happy it feels like I'm going to faint!

Lily's POV

We got back to the apartment and Julia had a Cheshire Cat grin on her face. She probably knows who Elizabeth is if one of her favorite musicals is Beetlejuice. "Your apartment is so cool!" I knew she just wanted to explode with questions and compliments but she held it in. "Thank you!" Julia spotted Henry and picked him up and cradled him. She acted like Henry was a little baby and it made me laugh. "How about you two go into Lily's room while I make dinner?" "Okay." I led Julia to my bedroom and closed the door. "Your so lucky! Elizabeth Teeter is like my idol! I'm so happy to be here!" She couldn't keep her comments in any longer. I just smiled and said "yeah."  We started to talk about all the drama that was happening at school when Elizabeth called us for dinner. We sat down and began to eat. Henry climbed onto the table and sat in a chair. There was silence until Julia broke it. "So, how do you know Lily?" I turned pale. Oh god. Please don't answer that question. "I just saw her walking by and started a conversation." It must have been obvious that I was uncomfortable. "Cool." Okay she believed it. Good. I didn't feel like telling her. Not yet. We finished up our dinner and drove Julia home. "Bye guys! Thanks for everything." I shouted bye and waved. Elizabeth drove away and started to head back to the apartment.

Elizabeth's POV

I pulled out of the drive way and started driving back to the apartment. We sat in an uncomfortable silence. Her dad had told me earlier that Lily was ungrateful and just ran away. That doesn't seem like her. "Julia is a big fan of you." The minute that girl saw me her face lit up. I could tell she wanted to ask so many questions. She wasn't that good at hiding it. "That's nice." Lily went back to staring out the window watching the night sky. New York is so cool at night. There are so many lights and sometimes it can be overwhelming. My thoughts were broken when I heard Lily cough, and I reminded myself that I'm not the only person in the car. "Okay, if I'm letting you stay the night, I'm going to need some answers. It's pretty obvious that you are running away from your parents, but why?" I knew that her dad was probably not a good person from our fight earlier, but there has to be a story behind it. Lily shifted in her seat and starred at the floor as she spoke. "My parents have been fighting for a while. They don't have a healthy relationship. They're always drunk and they never pay attention to me anymore. Earlier today, things got physical, and I didn't want to get hurt or stay in the bad environment any longer, so I left. Then I ran into you and... you know the rest of the story." Wow. Yeah that's definitely a story. I couldn't look at her because if I tried to I would probably crash and that's probably not the best thing right now. I took my right hand off the wheel and grabbed onto hers. "I'm sorry all of that happened." She smiled and squeezed my hand. A few seconds later I parked the car and we went inside. Henry was pushing around his food bowl while staring at me, so I gave him so food. Lily yawned.  "I'm tired I'm going to go to bed." It was Friday so I had two shows tomorrow. "I'll go to bed in a little bit. Good night!" "Night." She walked off looking tired. I sat at the table scrolling through my phone. A few minutes later her lights shut off. Henry climbed onto my lap and laid down. "Okay, let's go to bed." I said as I picked him up I climbed into bed, set an alarm for 8:00 am, and fell asleep.
