Lily's POV
No I can't do this. If I want to prove to myself that people actually care about me, hurting myself shouldn't be the answer. I put the knife down and went to go find my parents. I knocked on their door and I heard a muffled voice from inside yell "Come in!" I opened the door and saw my mom sitting on her bed reading. "Hey, mom." I said as I closed the door behind me. "Hey, honey. What's up?" She closed her book and looked up at me. "Can we talk about.... Stuff?" She looked at me with a sad face and patted a spot next to her. I climbed in and looked at her. She looked like a completely new person. She looked healthy and calm. It looked like she was actually taking care of herself while I was gone. I realized that I was just kind of creepily staring at her so I started the conversation. "Why were you and dad like that before I left?" It was a question I've been wanting to ask for a long time, and now I might actually get some answers. She sighed and reached out for my hand. "Your dad and I were going through some difficult things. We were losing a lot of money. Your dad got fired and he couldn't find another job. I tried to get a job too but nothing was working out. We could barely afford to stay in this house. Last year, when your grandfather passed away, your dad turned to anything that would make him happy again. Apparently that thing turned out to be drinking. I was under a lot of stress too, so one night I joined him. Then it got out of control and all of our anger started spiraling. We didn't mean for things to happen this way, it's just-" A sob cut her off and I squeezed her hand to show her some support. "It's okay. I get it." I said trying to make her feel better. She smiled at me and continued. "When you ran away. We realized that there is something else that makes us happy. You. We needed you back. That's why your dad went and got you. When that girl and Julia showed up and took you, my heart shattered because I thought you didn't want us anymore." She took a long pause to gather herself. "I'm sorry." She looked at me again. Her face was red and she looked genuinely upset. I hugged her and she hugged me back. "I forgive you." We stayed like that for a long time, and that was fine with me.
Julia's POV
We have to find her. Why would she just go back?!? I don't get it. Maybe her parents took her again. That has to be it. She would never go back on her own. I looked at where my feet decided to take me. The Marquis theater. I completely forgot. Should I go to the show tonight? It would be kind of awkward if I'm just by myself. Also I don't want to go if Elizabeth's not going. She needs support right now and I don't think ditching her for a musical would be good support. It also might not be what Lily wants. I would think she would want me to be happy but based on what she said to me over text, I'm not quite sure. I pulled out my phone and opened the messages app.
Julia: Hey, I'm confused on if I should go to the show tonight. Are you going? Because if you are I feel like I should. Did Lily say anything about tonight?
It took her a few minutes to respond.
Elizabeth: Lily said that she wants both of us to go tonight, so I guess I'm going.
Man, she is really not her cheerful self right now.
Julia: Ok then I'll go too. Btw are you ok? You seem off right now and I don't think you should preform tonight if you don't want to.
Elizabeth: I'm fine. I've probably missed too many shows this month anyways so I should probably go.
Julia: Okay, see you tonight. Break a leg!
Elizabeth: Bye.
Okay she lied. She's definitely not fine. "Fine" is a code word people use all the time when they are not actually fine. But if she wants to do the show tonight then I'm not going to stop her. I was about to put my phone away but I think I'll text one more person.
Julia: Hey, are you okay? Last time you texted me you seemed mad and I just wanted to see if I did anything wrong. If I did I'm soooo sorry! Please forgive me!
Lily: I'm doing great actually. I'm sorry that I came off as mad, and no you did nothing wrong.
Julia: Thank god! I was so worried I upset you somehow. Are you at your parent's house?
Lily: I am, and they are so much better now! Apparently they just needed me back and then they're happy again.
Julia: Wait, so they're not constantly angry anymore?
Lily: Nope! Also I asked my mom if I could come to Beetlejuice tonight and she said yes!
Julia: 1. I'm so happy that your parents are happy again! 2. OMG THATS SO AMAZING IM SO HAPPY I COULD ACTUALLY DIE RIGHT NOW!!!!!
Lily: lol. Girl calm down. You can die after the show.
Julia: okay! Sounds like a plan. Should I tell Elizabeth your coming, or let it be a surprise?
Lily: Let it be a surprise. Idk if she wants to see me right now, and I don't want it to stress her out all night.
Julia: okay! Also you didn't answer my question from earlier.
Lily: Oh right, we can meet outside the theater at 7:30.
Julia: Okay sounds good! Byeeeeeeee!
Lily: Bye!
I put my phone in my pocket with the biggest smile on my face. I just know that tonight is going to be the best night of my life.
