Chapter 19: Finding Peace

Once outside the tense room, Vi went limp, pushing her back against the wall as she hide her face in her hands. Her body finally registered the pain, though the doctors help made the pain a little bearable, and she was tired, as the adrenaline seemed to have finally worn off. she felt like crying, but held it in, instead lifting her head and running her hands through her shaven hair and taking a deep breath before turning and heading out of the hospital. she was fighting the urge to just go back to the room, and wait for her partner and boss to wake back up, but knowing her mother would probably shoot Vi dirty looks the entire time stopped her. getting outside she headed straight for the bakery, knowing they had the best cupcakes and sweets, and hoped that maybe that would soften Caitlyns parents 

with the treats in hand, Vi headed back to the hospital, humming softly, and keeping the treats close to her side, refusing to let anyone take them away. everyone who knew or knows Vi would know that she had a huge sweet tooth. since she was a kid, her parents would allow her a small treat, when they could afford it, and each time leaving her wanting more. now since she was able to afford it , she had a cabinet full of different sweets, something Caitlyn teased her relentlessly. Vi just ignored her, or pointed out caitlyns own sweet cabinet, and that usually got the enforcer to shush, and give Vi a good laugh. going through the doors of the hospital she headed for the elevator to caitlyns floor, ignoring the glares and whispers from the other topsiders. when the elevator dinged and the doors opened, she stepped out and down the hall to Caitlin's room. though stood frozen right outside. she didn't know if she could just walk in, or if she had to knock. the doctor never said she was allowed in like that, though knew that most people did, nurses and doctors included. taking a deep breath she shifted the bag into her other hand and reached for the door handle, pulling open the door quietly an slipping inside.

tobias looked over when he saw the door open and smiled when the pink hair of Vi entered. his wife turned when he did and scoffed at the still scruffy looking young woman. "i see you dont own any sense. or politeness." vi flinched slightly, moving the bag from one hand to another, something Cassandra picked up one immediately."whats that? drugs to sell? drugs to do? i know your type." "Cassandra.. please." tobias butted in quickly, wanting to stop the verbal assault to Vi. luckily his wife caught on and just huffed softly, though thankfully no more comments. "what is that though Vi? is it food?" Vi nodded, then shook it. "ah no not exactly.. its treats? a peace offering?" she locked eyes on Caitlyn's mother, who had a slight shocked face. Tobias smiled and got up heading to the huddled girl, taking the offered bag gently and looking through it. his face lighting up when he found cupcakes. "OOOO! look honey cupcakes!" tobis said smiling like a child, and opened the box carefully then taking one to eat humming happily.

"huh.. you found one of his favorite things Violet." the sound of her true name made Vi freeze. she haven't heard her full name in so long, not since she was 5, before her parents went to fight for the Undercitys freedom. tears prickled at her eyes, and she ducked her head, letting the fringe of her hair cover her face as she tried to fight the tears back. Caitlyn's mother noticed the sudden change in the brawler, and looked over to tobais for help. tobias watched the young brawler sadly, though when he felt a pair of eyes on him, he turned to find his wife, completely at a loss, and looking for him to help. he just shook his head and motioned for her to step forward, knowing that it was her mess to clean. Cassandra sighed and got up, picking her way to the brawler, and after a moments hesitation brought the young woman for a hug. she felt the young woman freeze, then try to push away, mumbing that she was okay, though finally just going limp and allowing the counicler to hug her letting a few tears slip free.

Vi leaned into the hug slightly, melting slightly, but before long felt herself being pulled away slightly. looking up to meet the councillors icy eyes, he was surprised to see them softened along the edges. "im sorry Viol- Vi.. i didn't know that you didn't like the name and im so sorry if it is a sentimental thing." Vi sniffled faintly and gave a half cocky smirk. "its- its okay councillor... just.. no one's called me that in forever.. not since my parents...." Vi trailed off ducking her head again to hide the tears again, and pulled away slightly. "an-anyways enjoy the treats.. i will just sit over in the corner.. just want to be here for when she wakes." Vi said softly, her hands motioning around as she rambled before turning and heading to where she motioned, only to flinch at a hand gently grabbing her shoulder.

she fought down the urge to punch at the person who dared to touch her, instead turning to find cassandra staring at her softly. "oh no, you can sit with us honey.. help us go through a few of the treats.. and tell me how my daughter came to be like this..? im am deeply sorry for being so rude and taut with you kiddo.. so i hope this makes up for it.." Vi just smiled softly and nodded, allowing the counselor to drag her to the chairs next to the bed, where tobias had already been happily eating through the cupcakes, and chuckling when the doctor gave her one taking a big bite and swallowing before starting. "like i said it was a job.."
