Chapter 27

Caitlyn wasn't worried. she tried to convince herself that Vi would be fine. keeping her mind busy by looking over old files, anything about zaun and any chem barons they may face down there. she also didn't constantly check the clock, her mind turning over every hour that Vi wasn't there yet. she groaned once again after rereading the same line before finally putting the paper down. "there is no reason to worry, she will be fine." Caitlyn muttered quietly to herself looking at the time displayed on the clock for the 15th time. hurried footsteps was her only warning as the door suddenly swung open. a older gentleman in enforcer yellow and blues stood panting heavily, a hand tightly gripping the handle as he fought to catch his breath. "Sheriff! trouble... in the Academy district! Gunfight..." that had Caitlyn hoot to her feet and race around the desk past him and to the front doors. "Willis, grab Officers Drake and Andrew, tell them to grab weapons, and the bulbas and meet me there. Officer Nate!" she called to the scrambling officers as they ran past, either on their way to get coffee, go home, or missions. a younger Man stopped in front of her and threw a quick salute. "yes sheriff?" "go tell the hospital we may need staff there. im not sure if they heard the news yet." Nate nodded and ran off, towards the hospital while Caitlyn and two other officers headed for the academy district.

as they got closer they could hear the gunshots get clearer and louder, as well as screams from many different people. "Andrew, Drake get these people off the streets and to safety quickly, Willis we need to apprehend the suspect now before this gets to out of hand." after a series of nods from the officers they split up, Caitlyn going straight for the gunshots while willis went from behind to hopefully corner them. pushing through the streams of people proved to be difficult but after people noticed the blues and yellows of her uniform they started splitting to give mer space. finally they got to were the gunfight was happening. one of the people shooting was wearing Ionias colors, with short red hair and a very puffy jacket his muscled frame hardly hid that he was a brawler like Vi, though he handled a gun quite well. he was shooting at someone with Piltover colors, with blonde spiky hair and blue eyes. both were wounded but they seemed to be artificial, though that may not last long with how they are talking and aiming. Caitlyn motioned for Willi to get the blonde boy while she focused on the heavyset fighter. thinking fast she pulled out her gun and fell to one knee aiming and shooting at the guys arm. a yell and clattering of the gun confirmed that she hit, though the small trickle of blood confirmed that it wasn't bad at all. getting up she ran over, keeping her gun trained on him as she order him to get on the ground. the brawler snarled and turned to her throwing out a hand and yanking her own gun away from her. ducking under a punch Caitlyn took a few steps back, mind working on overdrive trying to figure out how to take him down without her gun, and without getting seriously hurt. A yell and clattering behind her told her that Willis had managed to apperhand the other male, and that moment of distraction was all he needed. the guy sidestepped and threw a punch to caitlyns head, connecting with a grunt and knocking her back a few steps. disoranted she focused back to the guy and ducked under another punch only to get knocked back again with a well placed kick to the stomach. coughing she held a hand to the impact zone glaring at the heavyset brawler to watch closly for any signs of a weakness. She sidestepped another punch and used his momentum against him as she turned and threw a kick of her own to the inside of his knee. It worked as intended as he fell to one knee, and before he had time to react she grabbed his arms and yanked them back quickly throwing a set of handcuffs onto his wrists. she stepped back watching him carefully to make sure he won't make a move, before checking on the other officer who was sporting a bloody lip but proudly holding the blonde kid b the handcuffs and telling hm to march. "pht, you pilties and your self righteous attitudes." Caitlyn turned on him with a sharp glare, and though he smirked he didn't say anything else.

"get up. your coming back with us to the building." she scanned the crowd, noting how many injured and sighed shaking her head. "hope your little fued was worth all these people getting injured." caitlyn stated firmly, dragging the brawler up and shoving him forward to get him walking. she grabbed his gun and her own before she followed behind Officer Willis. she could see Nate coming back with a handful of the medical team and she smiled, glad they got there relatively quickly so they could help the injured. the brawler and Blonde kid wisly stayed quiet as they were directed into the building and down to the holding cells. once there both caitlyn and Willis checked them for anymore weapons or tools before throwing them in two different cells and locking the door. "good work Willis, go fill out the paperwork and leave it on my desk. ill put these two into the system then after we get the verdict from the medical team have a trial for them." Willis nodded and walked out, caitlyn following behind and letting the door slam behind her. since the aderdline had run out she could feel the sting of the punch to her face, most likely sporting a black eye, and the ache seemingly present in her stomach so thinking quickly she stopped by the small medical unit they had to get a ice pack and meds before heading to her office.

the door was left wide open, from both Caitlyn and the other Officers rush to handle the situation but the person sitting next to the desk was new. the pink hair and jacket gave it away and he relaxed sightly upon seeing it. "officer Vi?" it got the response she wanted, with Vi Shooting to her feet and turning around, eyes wide in surprise until she saw caitlyn half bent over from laughing. Vi sighed shaking her head and walked over to her though a small smile was present. "god cupcake... one day your going to give me a heart attack." Caitlyn giggled softly and tried to straighten, though her ribs complained at the movement. she closed the door before facing vi a soft smile on her lips as she studied the brawler. she watched Vi's face go from amusement to worry, to exasperation as she took in the bruising of the eye. "damn.. did you piss off someone cupcake?" Vi voice was unnaturally soft and her ghosted her hand around the eye, though caitlyn moved from the touch. "something like that.. im sure one of the other officers filled you in but there was a gunfight down in the academy district.. one of them was a brawler and i got distracted." Vi shook her head and chuckled. "your fighting skill will always amazing me caitlyn, your one hell of a shot, but when it comes to close range.." Caitlyn glared at Vi, who just started laughing before she was pushed away. "oh can it you, i can fight jus fine. now what did you find out about the new chembaron?"

Vi chuckled softly and shook her head. "all work no fun hm? anyay there's this dude called Singed, apparently he has this thing guarded by some trenchers looking for easy money or bodyguards i couldn't tell. the building itself was what to be a warehouse decent size but i think one of the window panels was missing o we could sneak in that way. they didn't give any information on what the thing they were guarding was, but it has to be a weapon of some kind." Caitlyn nodded and started writing down the main points before humming softly. "how many guards did you see Vi?" "there were two where i was coming from, guarding a door it looked like, i think there was at least 4 or 5 more patrolling around though, i didn't get a chance to look and its so dark and there is so much smoke around that its hard to see. and i would not suggest brining a whole battalion down to zaun. that will just give us unwanted attention, and even if we made it down there Singed probably would have realized and will know how to counter." Caitlyn muttered softly trying to think. "alright so then maybe 4 of us then.. that should be enough to get down and stop whatever it is in that warehouse. but we are going to need a plan first." Vi nodded in agreement, looking over the notes caitlyn wrote down. "well first which other two officers you going to take?" caitlyn raised her head with a hum thinking back. "well they both need to be good at both close range and gun just in case so....Officers Matt and willis. they are also both reliable so they will be good fits."

Vi nodded and stood back up. "ill go get the, we can make a plan and then attack. the sooner we attack the better cupcake." Caitlyn nodded and watched Vi leave, before turning back to the files and notes. they had to take this threat down and quickly before it threatened piltover and beyond. soon enough 3 sets of footsteps alerted her of the new arrivials and caitlyn stood up, ready to get this started. "close the door and we can begin." vi nodded and shut the door, before standing behind the two other officers all ready to go do what needs to be done. Caitlyn prayed that she wouldn't loose either officer to this new threat rising.

"you two have been selected to go on a mission with me and Vi. we need to stop Singed and figure out what his new 'weapon' is before it started to threaten Piltover. Vi has done a quick undercover mission but we cant afford another one to gain any more information. what we do know is it is in lower Zaun, where the industrials sector is. there are two guards in the front main but there will probably be more patrolling, and inside the warehouse itself."Caitlyn studied each f the officers face for a sign of hesitance or fear, though only finding determination and full attentiveness. she smirked and stood up straight glad she chose right with Willis and Matt. she met Vis eyes from behind and relaxed when she smirked back. "now... here is the plan"
