Chapter 29

(NOTE: there will be one more chapter after this, basically a epilogue but yep!)

when they finally reached topside it was already dawn. the dark sky had lightened to red and oranges as the sun began to rise. putting their captures in the prison for now all four enforcers headed to their respective desks to get the paperwork done and in place so they could convict the trenchers and beast. Caitlyn had motioned for Vi to follow her to the Sheriff's office and fell against the chair with a sigh. Vi chuckled softly and closed the door before joining her at the desk. "Another successful mission for Piltover's best Sheriff." Caitlyn chuckled softly and nodded before adding. "and her partner, dont disclude yourself from this achievement Vi. couldn't do this without you. 

Vi blushed slightly, rubbing the back of her neck in embarrassment before responding, voice growing soft. "nah you could have cupcake, probably  would've been a lot harder though." caitlyn turns fully to vi eyebrows creased in worry. "nah Vi, you were a big help with this. now cmon, we can put these files away and go get something to celebrate. the Enforcers crews got the guys covered and the paperwork can be finished Later, besides we should get some sleep if we are to present the case tonight. " caitlyn pushed herself to her feet, extending a hand to vi wo after a second took it and followed Caitlyn outside of the building and into the streets of Piltover. the streetlamps were still on, casting a artificial orange glow on the sidewalk, contrasting to the light the sun was casting as it rose steadily. there were very few people on the roads as they walked to their favorite bakery, besides a few store owners opening up shop. 

when they reached the doors, vi pulled ahead quietly pulling the doors open, half thankful they had already opened so she didn't look like a dummy and let Caitlyn enter first, earning a smile from Cait. following behind to head up to the counter where the store owner was, back turned as she started up the coffee machines and ovens. "hello ma'am, sorry for coming in so early." the owner jumped slightly out of surprise but turned and smiled seeing it was the sheriff and deputy. "oh no worries at all sheriff, Vi, what brings you in so early?" "late bust down in Zaun.." Vi said simply, which had the older woman shooting them both a worried glance. "are you both okay? i hope he didn't get to violent." Caitlyn watches as Vi eases the owners mind and gets her to relax. ater ordering and bidding the bakery owner a good day they walked out and to the apartments. 

Vi startled slightly as Caitlyn wrapped her free hand into her hand, but quickly tightned the hold with a smile. "what are you thinking about Vi?" the question hung in the air as Vi tried to gather her thought enough to respond. Vi turned over to caitlyn, seeing the bruise around her eye darkening considerably. she blushed as she realized she was staring to long an looked away. "just thinking bout the mission cupcake. i wonder how singed managed to get that dude so many attachments.. that gun and claw need to definitely need to be detained." Caitlyn nodded, turning away to think. " i know, they can think of something before putting him in prison, or putting him down for good." Vi cringed at her wording but only nodded her head. 


it was nearly dusk when both Vi and Caitlyn returned to the building. they had eaten their breakfast and ended up falling asleep on the couch, curled against each other as a movie played in the background. they had woken up around late afternoon, not nearly enough sleep, but if they wanted to put the criminals away they had to stay awake. Caitlyn was holding a tea in a recyclable cup and sipping periodically, while Vi was yawning every other sentence, had a large cup of black coffee, obviously struggling to stay awake as she followed caitlyn into the sheriffs office to help her with finishing the files. Willis and Matt had given them their mission reports and quickly all four got the files they needed done. quickly requesting a viewing with the council, knowing they would want to hear of this, they waited with bated breaths as the quiet clink of the air message arrives. 

"alright they confirmed, Willis, Matt gather a few more enforcers to help bring the beast, and brining the trenchers we did collect to the Council." they nodded and ran off as Vi huffed quietly. "what's wrong Vi?" Vi shook her head and tuned to help out. "nothing cupcake, cmon we gotta get the trenchers ready." Vi disappeared out of the room, leaving a confused Caitlyn scrambling to follow. within the next couple minutes the enforcers were busy getting th criminals ready to be moved before they started leading them towards the towering council building. 

"counselors. may i present Vi, Willis, and Matt. the enforcers with me on the raid that captured these criminals. we have reason to believe that a undercity trencher had paid them off to make sure the beast would be used appropriately. all the information we have as of is in these folders." the councilors watched as the sheriff told them of their information. and they started talking among themselves. "and you have not captured the crime boss behind this plan sheriff?" Mel Merida said calmly, looking directly at the sheriff. "as off not yet, we dont know whe-" "i know where he is, with the councillors, and Sheriffs, approval i can take a few enforcers down and bring back the mind behind the beast." Vi said interrupting Caitlyn, earning a glare from caitlyn, but curious looks from the councilors. "and who might you be young lady?" bulbok said, his robotic voice scaring vi slightly. "My name is Vi,deputy to the sheriff,  i was born in the undercity and i know where sin-er the crime boss is to take him down." 

shocked murmurings sprouted from vis words. "your from the undercity?" "why do we have a.... trencher in the ranks of enforcers. they are not to be trusted." "why would you choose this trencher for your deputy." "Silence. my daughter knows what she is doing. Vi is a trusted source and has been working to stopping the crime rates in Zaun." Cassandra said, silencing the councillors words. "now, i approve, you just need the sheriffs approval deputy. As for the trenchers, who here is for throwing the trenchers in jail, and putting down the beast." slowly the responding booms and flashes of lights echoed through the room as one by one the counselors raised their hands. Cassandra nodded then turned to the small group of enforcers. "i assume you can handle it Sheriff." Caitlyn nodded, and without hesitating started motioning for the enforcers to start leading the trenchers out, letting Vi handle the beast with Matt. 

when they had done what they needed, and sent the enforcers home for the night, Vi and Caitlyn headed back to the apartments. Vi had Caitlyn's hand gently as they walked, pressing close to the sheriff for comfort. "Cait? you alright? you've been silent since the meeting." caitlyn gave a soft sigh as they entered the building, and to Vis worry, straight for the elevator. she absolutely hated how tiny it was. it didn't help that it was metal and creaky reminding Vi of the elevator in prison, leading to the solitary confinement. lucky they were the only ones in the elevator, and it wasn't long before Caitlyn brought her out of her panic thoughts. "you are so reckless sometimes Vi. you throw yourself into danger, and block with your face. i know you know the undercity but it changed so much since you were little." Vis gaze hardened and she glared at Caitlyn. 

"how would you know that it changed so much?! you pilites never go into the undercity. how the hell would you even know what it looked like before." Caitlyn scoffed softly and glared right back, unflinching to Vi's glares. "i may not have gone down there but things change in 5 years Vi. besides kingpins come and go so of course it would have changed." as soon as the doors opened vi walked briskly out. not giving Caitlyn a second glance as she headed to her apartment and shut the door, though didn't move past and instead leaning against the door with a sigh. Caitlyn watched, before stepping out of the elevator herself. looking at vi's door and biting her lip, she decides against it for now and headed to her own apartment, walking in and locking the door.
