"Friendship improves happiness, and abates misery, by doubling our joys, and dividing our grief." — Marcus T. Cicero
While you are on your healing journey, the people you are surrounded with has a huge impact on how long the process will take.
Your association matters.
Just imagine you are struggling mentally. You are clinically depressed, experience unpredictable mood swings and painful memories which probably lead to suicidal thoughts.
Imagine also, you have a group of friends whom you hold closely to your heart. Whenever you hang out, they contribute to your aches whether by reminding you of the past, replaying scenarios that trigger your symptoms, talk down on your feelings or even introduce you to quick fixes; which will temporarily numb the pain but overtime makes it worse.
What do you think will happen?
You will never get better or it will take twice the expected time.
You have to find friends who probably are on the same path as you or people who are completely healed and are mentally able to assist you while you heal.
Whether it is physical or mental, you need a support system strong enough to withstand all your emotions and patient enough to know that the process may be longer than expected but nevertheless, we will be here for you through it all.
