"I am what?" was the first thing that came out of Daena's mouth.

"The Queen proposed a betrothal between you two, I accepted," Daenys explained slowly.

The silence was the only reply she received. No sound was made except for the crackling of fire and the coos of Daegor.

Daena slumped down in the chair looking at her lap. Daenys and Aenar exchanged a quick look as Daerion quietly gaped.

Daena's shoulders shook slightly. The soft sound of giggles echoed throughout the chamber. The giggling gradually turned louder, as Daena looked up to laugh in her parent's faces.

"I know that you do not know me well, or at all, but I never thought that you would be so deluded to wed me to Aemond Targaryen of all people!" She said as her voice grew gradually louder.

"You do not talk to us like that. We are your parents." Aenar snapped back instantly.

"Wow, there's a big surprise," Daena cheered fakely, "I think I'm actually going to have a heart attack and die of surprise!"

"I do not understand you," Daenys sighed, "It has always been your duty to marry. You have known this since you were young. Aemond is a prince with enormous wealth, when you marry you will bear the name Targaryen, as you have always wanted-"

Daena cut off, "I now understand those were childish wants-"

"Childish wants?" Daenys echoed incredulously, "You have only completed eleven name-days! You are still a child! You are not getting married on the morrow, you will have your freedom. Besides, Aemond is a second son with no responsibilities, which means you will have none. He is a perfect suitor, he is your cousin-"

"Do you understand how that sentence sounds to someone?" Daerion interjected.

Daenys turned sharply to her son, "You are not someone, Daerion, you are a Targaryen!"

She quickly turned back to her daughter, ignoring the morose look on her son's face which was caught by her husband, "It would have been your fate either way. I have secured what I thought is the best match for you, keeping your want of relaxation in min- are you even listening to me?"

Daena, who had previously been gazing into the fireplace dully, lulled her head back to face her mother, "I am listening to you. I am just not paying attention."

"Were you dropped on your head as a baby?"

"Considering you were my mother? Probably!" Daena retorted.

Aenar's lips twitched slightly. He always imagined a smaller version of his wife with the same silver tongue. He didn't imagine them trying to bite each other's heads off, but this works too.

Daenys took a deep breath. Remember your happy place. Remember your happy place.

"Whatever the matter, it is done. Once both of you are of age, you will marry Aemond. I suggest you try and find some joy in this miserable hell I have apparently damned you to," With that, the Princess rushed out of the room, desperately trying to keep frustrated tears from leaking out of her eyes.
