What has it been like for me these days in Siargao?
It has been going better—that's what I believe. On my first day, I had doubts and they were overflowing. The only thing that made me feel so optimistic about this spontaneous trip is that I know I have to get away from my life back in the city. I put that in mind wishing that trusting these people I had just met would eventually help me cope with the real world.
Bradley, Xander, Kady, Austin, and Keegan who was newly engaged to his fiancee, Marina, opened their arms to me even though they knew nothing about me. At that point, alam kong nakatagpo ako ng mga taong hindi ako titingnan na kakaiba at ramdam ko iyon dahil hindi ko naramdaman maging out of place kapag kasama sila.
I'm a very outgoing person and I know how to get along with people well, even sa mga foreigner, kaya hindi na bago sa akin ang makisalamuha sa kanila. In fact, my ex-boyfriend was Half-Italian so I've been used to it—ang masaktan lang ang hindi.
Aside from waking up with my roomie, Austin, I've been hanging out with them around the area to show me what are the best places to go to. They highly recommended iyong club na napuntahan namin no'ng unang gabi rito sa Siargao—the night we celebrated Keegan and Marina's engagement. May mga iba pa raw na club na pwedeng dayuhin, but if we wanted to meet new people dahil karamihan ng mga foreigner at local ay iyon ang pinupuntahan, often times they said a place to catch a stranger attention ending the night with you already know that.
At the back of my head, hindi naman hook-up ang habol ko. I need some peace of mind and that's the only thing I want for now. I feel like being in Siargao would cleanse me and make me like a new person. I hope that'll happen.
Bradley's a man that many ladies on the island are coming after, while Xander comes right after him. Ang kwento pa ni Marina sa akin nagkaroon daw ng girlfriend 'yan ng lokal si Xander pero nakipagbreak dahil masyado raw demanding 'yong girl. He remained single from then dahil walang limitation and he can date anyone he liked. Si Kady naman ay ang madalas maghatak sa akin para umalis. Kung pupunta kami sa beach at mag-swimming, iyong mga lokal ay likas na nagagandahan sa kanya. Kapag pupunta ng palengke o kumain sa labas, she would get compliments. Kulang na lang ay lumuhod iyong mga kalalakihan para kunin ang kamay niya. But she said, the right man for her will come on the perfect time and she just wants to live young and enjoy her life.
And that leaves the last one with Austin. Tahimik pa rin siya. We get to talk, casually, but I still couldn't throw any jokes at him like I usually do with my friends. Sa akin lang naman siya tahimik o siguro naninibago pa rin sa presensya ko. Hindi naman ako masamang tao? Wala rin naman akong balak sa kanya? Well, maybe he was reserved in many ways and I respect that.
This morning, nagkayayaan na pumunta sa beach side para maligo. They said they don't usually swim on the beach daily just because they live on the island. Iyon daw kasi madalas ang iniisip ng ibang tao, but there's more to the island than just swimming.
