Before I could even press the send button on my phone, a call came through to the screen showing Austin's name. Nanlaki ang mata ko nang mabasa ko ang pangalan niya. My hand was shaking when I answered his call. I put him on loudspeaker.
"Hey, Austin!" bungad ko.
"Hey, Danny. Where are you? You're not replying to my messages earlier." Napangiwi ako sa sinabi niya. He sent me seven messages and I left them unread. "We'll be having a dinner out tonight. I was trying to reach out to you earlier, but you weren't responding. Where are you so I can pick you up?"
"Hoy, no, don't. I can walk there. . ." paliwanag ko. "Kady sent me the address and location. I don't think it's far naman."
"Where are you right now?" Hindi niya ako pinakinggan.
"I'm near the Paradiso Hostel. I'm walking there now. . . I think I'll be there in fifteen to twenty minutes."
"Don't walk. You're far enough. I'll be there in five," aniya saka ibinaba ang tawag.
Napakamot na lamang ako sa ulo ko dahil hindi ko sigurado kung susundin ko ba si Austin o maghihintay na lang ako ng trike papunta ro'n. I was still thinking what would I say to him or to the whole group when I joined them because they would know I was being a little spicy these days.
It was true when Austin said he'd be here in five minutes, he arrived just in time to fetch me. Napatingin na lamang ako sa kanya at inaabangan kung may sasabihin siya sa akin. But he just called me to get behind him on the motor. Sinunod ko naman iyong sinabi niya. It was so awkward, i couldn't even look straight into his eyes. Nang umalis kami, kapag mahuhuli kong tumitingin siya sa side mirror ay ako naman ang umiiwas ng tingin sa kanya. I really feel like there was something going in on there.
What happened the last time, when he brought me to some beautiful spots on the island, that was an eye-opener for me that Austin would never look back on me so I'll find a way to create happiness on that side of me.
It didn't take us too long when we arrived at the place. Wala pa nga atang five minutes dahil sa bilis ng pagmamaneho ni Austin. Naghanap lang siya ng mapa-park-an ng motor at saka kami bumaba. Ang sabi niya wala naman daw mag-iinteres na kumuha ng motor. He seems confident about it so I guess I really don't have to worry about it. Nandiyan din naman ang ibang motor nila Marina.
I walked next to Austin while we were heading down to the restaurant.
"What are you doing there?" he asked. I feel like he was trying to ask that since he picked me up earlier, but don't know where to start. "Just wondering why. . ." He shrugged off, trying to cool it off.
